Poljen shrugs. "And if they mean to attack us, we will slaughter many of them, thus weakening the Red Wizards, and therefore the Cult of the Dragon. So, I say we risk it," probably oversimplifying the situation.
"With that in mind," Lawrance responds "How much preparation should we do towards the idea that we will have to defend ourselves on the other side of that portal? The magics I need to use to cast it alone are significant. While we ponder that, let's see about re-equipping ourselves in one of the greatest shopping districts in history!"

“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
Poljen perks up at the mention of shopping, for probably the only time any of the Blaze have known him. "That reminds me! Having gotten familiar with this new axe, the one with the bracelets, I can offer up to the team two items. They can be used by any, or sold for funds. First, my hand axe of returning will no longer be with me. Second, the great axe I picked up when we took the castle, is available." He paused, "Though if no one wishes to use it, and we don't desperately need the funds, I would hope we can keep it. It was won in honorable combat, and I have many good memories with it."
Handaxe of Returning: requires attunement, a +1/+1 axe that can be thrown 30 feet, and a Bonus Action to have it return to one's hand.
Great Axe: does NOT require attunement, currently +2/+2 with +1d6 cold damage
Lia shakes her head. " We should put a lot of preparation into defending ourselves on the other side. Being attacked is by far the most likely thing to happen when we pass through the portal. With that being said, I am ready to shop. Mari has a nice weapon she needs to pick up as well. "
Mari stares at Poljen with irritation evident. She mutters under her breath, " We kill some of them....they are wizards. It isn't that easy. "
"Shopping, Liz?" Perry asks as his eyes light up in wonder. "I'll go get my things! There's no time to waste!"
Perry then heads to his room to grab all of his things and prepare himself. He cleans himself and his clothes then heads out as Penelope to Poppo.
"Hi hi!" Penelope exclaims as she smiles at Poppo. "One trip to Waterdeep please! They need me for my most important team contribution."She puffs up as she says that, clearly proud of her mad shopping skills. "Do they know where I'm going to show up Poppo? I'm not sure how this teleport stuff works."
Velon is happy to move on after their rest, meet up with Penelope, and get some shopping done. Once again he encourages the group to buy potions, better weapons and armor, etc. as all of their wealth will do them little good if Tiamat wins and even less if they are dead. The paladin is happy to let Lia, Lawrance and the others take the lead on planning the trip through the portal as he has less understanding of what that entails.
While in the market Velon keeps an eye out for the availability of the following:
During the time at market, Lawrance tells the group "I'm going to see what I can find out about our destination before we blindly enter the Circle, as well as more info about the demon we encountered. Once we finish our buying and selling frenzy, you can find me at the wizard's guildhall library for a while. "
Items to sell with known base prices (unless wanted by a party member) : Wand of Magic Missiles (8k), Wand of Ice Lance, Wand of Ore Detection, Wand of the War Mage +1 (1200), Wand of Wonder, Staff of Withering(3k), Dwarven Plate, Monocle of Read Esoteric, Tome of Cat Summoning, Compass of Goblinoid location, Lamp of Utterdark (oil fuel)
Items to buy for Lawrance: Keoghtom's Ointment (4 doses), Potion of Detect Thoughts, Potion of Heroism, Dust of Dryness (4 pellets), Potions of Fire Resistance, Acid Resistance and Cold Resistance. Total base cost = 1,920 GP
If funds allow, copy the following spells : Bigby's Hand, Intellect Fortress, Scrying
Things to do : Write 2 Scrolls of Teleport Circle (level 6 as per homebrew rule) with current known circles (Waterdeep, Candlekeep and Thaymount Citadel) - 1280 GP, 3 days? , Finish Anti-Dragon Aura spell (3 days).
Lawrance seeks out the wizard's guild library and, after catching up on his outstanding dues, researches a few topics during the day once the shopping has completed. Of the highest interest is locating the provided runic circle's exit point, as well the other two unknown destinations from the scroll acquired so long ago. Once that subject is exhausted, he then studies the name he recorded from the summoning/binding circle for clues. (Avid Researcher trait)
Later on, once the party has re-gathered at their lodgings, he discusses the upcoming trip.
"I think, in the interest of prudence, sending an Arcane Eye across the circle to check out what awaits up would be wise. Only after we have at least a basic idea of safety should we then follow a few moments after. Once the Eye is there, we can all watch through our link and explore a bit. If we take a few days to prepare, I can have a scroll to use instead of my own limited magic capacity to cast the powerful Circle. I will need 6 days to prepare such things properly, if we can spare it, otherwise I'll use my own magics to send us over."
“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
Once Penelope meets up with the group, she is eager to go magic item shopping and spend some of this gold burning in her bag. As they all walk together, she says, "Oh I forgot to tell you, we made LOTS of renovations in the castle that I'm sure you will all love! But I'll let it be a surprise for now! I figured it was about time we modernized our lodgings, you know? Since we have to rebuild anyway, it would be a waste not to, right? Anyway, onwards to the shopping!" she exclaims with a huge grin.
"I actually have a new spell that will help me with getting us the best deals, you know," Penelope says. With that, she reaches for the ominous-looking black scimitar at her side and unsheathes it. Suddenly, the blade shrinks and morphs into what appears to be a black harmonica with silver accents and a silver head of a raven engraved upon it. She plays a note on the instrument and her eyes glow briefly with purple arcane power. "Okay! Now let's go shopping!"
With that, Penelope will shop till she drops all over Waterdeep.
So I swapped a spell out for Enhance Ability. Using it to give myself Eagle's Splendor which grants advantage on Charisma-based checks. If available, I'd like to inquire on purchasing the following items:
Periapt of Proof Against Poison (5000g) Boots of Elvenkind (2500g) Potions of Resistance for Cold, Electric, and Acid (300g per) Potion of Speed (400g per) Potions of Growth and Diminution (270g per) Potion of Water Breathing (180g per) Potion of Gaseous Form (300g per)
I will decide how much of each I buy or what I buy once we see what is available and what the discounts are and how much we earn from selling. I'm going to roll for that now.

Velon ruffles through his backpack and pulls out a few items, reminding the party's brain trust of Lia, Lawrance and he supposes Perry...
"Well I still have this scroll...I think it takes us back to Waterdeep." (teleportation scroll from long ago)
"Oh, and then there's this huge blue sapphire from the dragon on the beach." (was this mostly for selling purposes? I know it was supposed to be quite valuable.)
"Ah, lastly there's more of this stuff that Perry smoked that time..." (the Seer's Tabac)
Text from my Seer's Tabac: (Narcotic consumable) A bitter concoction of strange herbs and unidentifiable dust with a magical aura, smoking a dose of Seer's Tabac requires one minute and a successful DC 10 Constitution save. Failure imposes the nauseated condition for five minutes. Success allows the subject to commune with friendly spirits in search of answers concerning the future. (One question, as per the Divination spell)
Penelope's eyes light up as she sees DAT TABAC once again. "Hey...uhm, Velon. Do you mind if I hold onto that Tabac? I think I can make really good use of it if we need to. I have a lot of experience with such things, ya know? Maybe Lawrance can figure out how valuable that big shiny sapphire is," she says.
"So, what should we do next?"Penelope asks innocently. "Is time to partayyy at the Yawning Portal? Should we go see a play tonight? There's TONS happening in Waterdeep!"
Velon starts to hand Penelope the tabac but then pulls his hand back. "Perry, errr, Penelope, you're not going to just smoke this right away, are you? What are you going to use it for?"
"Oh no no Velon, listen, Velon, I wouldn't dare smoke it right away. I realize this is a very powerful hallucinogenic that should taken in a controlled and safe environment and under the strict supervision of a professional. I would never do something like use it just to get high and play music while drinking Shadowdark ale with a plate of Quipper and Chips at the Yawning Portal," Penelope responds. "I will only use it in the most responsible manner to aid us on our mission to...uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, wait, what are we doing here again? This is just a shopping and relaxing trip, right?"
Velon glances at Lia and says "maybe Lia should hold onto the tabac now so you can use it together when the time is right." He winks at Lia and smirks a little for putting the burden on her.
Velon proceeds to make sure Perry is filled in on the invitation from a former contact regarding the red wizard divide and the risk of teleporting to them, and also that the horn had been used if no one else has brought Perry up to speed on both topics as of yet.
Penelope looks a little sad as DAT TABAC is put away. Then, Penelope folds her arms, and replies, "I'll have you know the repairs are going swimmingly. I even got some nearby Fey to help us. It should be close to flying again...probably. Besides, the place looks great! I know you will love it!"
---
After Velon explains the situation with Thay and the Cult, Penelope looks at him with a stern and serious expression, as if she is contemplating what to do. "Hmm, okay, okay, I think I understand. There are bad guys that can help us against the more badder, dragon guys. I can help Lawrance with his magic to learn more. Meanwhile, we can try asking people who might know more about Thay in Waterdeep. Why don't we check in with the Harpers here and ask what they know about these Thay weirdos? I like them. They seem resourceful and have helped us out a lot lately."
Penelope will give Lawrance Bardic Inspiration to help with his spell if you want to go ahead and roll and extra 1d10 GKnight. Daishain, do we know where the Harper branch is in Waterdeep? Penelope can ask around to try and find it.
Lia looks wide eyed at Velon's suggestion before jabbing him in the arm. She laughs and says, " You probably have more experience with that type of thing. I do not want to deprive you of the fun. "
Waterdeep, as always, is a thriving paradise for all sorts of hawkers, merchants, dealers, marketers, and just plain old thieves. Goods, both real and fake, are practically thrown into your line of sight to try and catch your attention as you pass through.
Fortunately, Penelope knows this dance well, and manages to get you past those not worth your time to the most likely to offer favorable deals.
After what seems like days for some, but mere minutes for others, you complete your transactions and exit the main marketplace.
The question of where the Waterdeep Harper office is located earns you a few odd looks, but soon enough you get pointed towards a quiet part of town not far from the eastern gate.
"Woooooo! We did ittttttt! Yay! Now, let's go inside and see who we can talk to," Penelope says to the group. After they enter, she will smile widely and say to the first person she sees inside, "Hi hi! Listen, we are the Silver Blaze and we were hoping to try and get some help! Do you know Mr. Kreel? We've worked with him before at the Baldur's Gate office. It's REALLY important okay? Like WORLD-SAVING important! We really need info before our next mission but it needs to be on the down-low, you know?"
Penelope ends up accosting a gnome in a remarkably bright green outfit, said gnome looks extremely skeptical and tries to pull away, "Right. If you could excuse me I have work to do."
