Theres no way sully can get out of a grip like that. The escape DC i think would correlate into obvious grip strength SUlly would know he had little chance of breaking. So instead, because hes mad and hurt and has a little help well cock his snout straight up at the ogres ugly face and without a word unleash his breath weapon DC 13 Attack: 8 or half on a save

Nog's body seizes up as the lightning courses through his body. He then takes his fist and tries to hammer it down on you. 15 5 more damage if it hits.

Your breath weapon was a direct hit, but Nog wallopped you back with a solid hit of his own, and the mysterious, priestly woman wasn't able to help this time. In a war of attrition, you know Nog will win. Let's see if that lightning blast loosened Nog's grip any. Escape DC: 7

Damn Nog is a mentalist! I use my last spell to shield his last blow. I try to slip the grip and run for it! Acrobatics!: 18 30 ft towards Ishtar
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAAA
I love this! This is exactly what would happen in this situation realistically. If sully survives to become heroic then this is his crucible he’ll always look back on
Nog bellows in frustration at missing such an easy target. Grapple escape DC: 19
BTW, Nog is not showing any signs of injury yet. You have been damaging him, but he's tough. He can take a lot more, and Sully would be able to see that.

[sorry we lost a day of playing today--it was a busy day]
Since Sully is giving up, I'll just narrate for a bit...
Nog drags you back to your cell, flings you inside, picks up the broken door, and tries to hang it back up. When it doesn't work, Nog gets frustrated and slams the door against the frame a few times. Then, he throws the door aside, and grabs you again. He drags you down the corridor, in the direction where Ishtar went. You go down a long, narrow corridor that Nog can barely fit in. Nog passes through several intersecting corridors, and makes several turns at others. Nog then begins to chuckle to himself. As he laughs, a wad of mucusy saliva is expelled from his mouth, landing near your feet. He drags you into a room with a stone table on it. He says, "Dog's cage not work. Nog tie up dog, like boss does." As you look around, it's unmistakable what sort of room this is. It's a torture chamber.
Nog puts his leg on you to hold you on the table, while he attempts to tie you to the metal rings embedded into the stone.
[From XGE, "The creature who ties the knot makes an Intelligence (Sleight of Hand) check when doing so. The total of the check becomes the DC for an attempt to untie the knot with an Intelligence (Sleight of Hand) check or to slip out of it with a Dexterity (Acrobatics) check."]
It takes Nog a long time to figure out how to tie a knot. You can see just how dumb Nog is because of how long it takes him to figure out how to thread the rope through the rings and around you to hold you in place without also tying his leg to you. Nog's final knot tying check: 0 Nog sits down on another torture device chair, and starts singing to himself. "I'm bringing home the human. Food for mom. I hope my mom will save a leg for me. I'm bringing home the human. Food for mom. Ouch! It kicked me. I'm smashing up the human. Food for mom..." It looks like maybe Nog is trying to sing himself to sleep.
Cut scene over. What would you like to do? Also, give me a perception check, please.
I wait....my honor, dignity, and head are injured. The shadows born of the grave inside Sully begins to grow as he lies still on that table...a change happens, a thought, the desire for revenge against this oaf, the seeds of murder begin to grow on that table inside Sully. I will kill this ogre he says in his mind as he waits for sleep to take Nog. He peers around this new enviroment for advantages and instruments that will lead to the death of Nog and anybody that has caused heartache and worry to his family by taking him away again. “I am a Dragonborn, death spat me back out into the shadows, and here in this darkness I am a nightmare to my enemies” (first character development: I’m seeing the shadow socerey as almost like a symbote inside him growing and “corrupting” him more and his first symptom is this murderous idea towards Nog and the change in his diction away from country bumpkin shop keep to weilder of strange magic)
He peers around: 10
and once Nog is asleep careful work at the knots securing him to table (sleight of hand): 21
i definitely changed persons like 3x lol I’m always talking about sully just in case there’s confusion

[ok, I wondered what you meant when you said "I wait." I wasn't exactly sure what you meant by that. I didn't know if you were waiting, trying to see if you could get a short rest in, or whether you were waiting to see if someone else would arrive, or if you were waiting for Nog to falll asleep. So, thanks for clarifying that.]
When you first look, you do not see anything. But, then, after a few moments, you see Ishtar trying to make himself more obvious, without alerting Nog see him. Nog's perception check, with Disadvantage. 4

You spot Ishtar, trying to get your attention. Nog does not react. He's stopped singing, and you think he is falling asleep. You untie the knots with ease. You can't even really call them "knots." The ropes were just twisted around each other a bunch of times, like a poorly done braid, and then tucked under. They practically unfurled themselves as soon as you touched them.

Sully actively looks around for a weapon for Ishtar to use, SUlly feels spent from all the magic usage and the beating hes taken so he might look for something he can use as a club or little knife to use (Investigation: 5 ). Then confirming Ishtar has the keys still with as little noise as possible abscond from the room (stealth: 15 ) with Ishtar in tow back tracking back towards the cells. If Ishtar inquires why Sully whispers, “Papa used to say, no Dragonborn lets the sun set on a debt” and heads towards the priestess’s cell to release her
Intel or survival (same mod, so convenient) check to remember the way?: 8
Still can’t catch a break with these dice...they’re soooo random, dnd is more fun with my loaded dice ;)
Also I feel as if Crit Fails are obvious, if sneaking fails (which it did) Sully would turn to the elf and mouth “RUN” and run *not* towards the way he came but try and find a way out
[You find plenty of things that could be used as improvised weapons. It's a torture chamber, the implements of which are out in the open, hanging on 2 walls or resting on stalagmites near those walls which have been cut/filed to form a small table. The walls with the stuff on it are the one behind Nog and the one beside him. Your Investigation check was high enough for you to quickly assess what implement would serve you best. I'll leave it to you to describe what it is you choose. Mechanically, they probably will be a club and/or a dagger. If you know of something that would be in a torture chamber, but would more closely akin to some other weapon, feel free to suggest it.]
After acquiring your chosen implements --one for you and one for Ishtar--you try to sneak away. You pass Ishtar whatever "weapon" you chose for him, and you make it out of the room and into the hall.
But, as soon as you round the corner...
[remember those rolls I told you to ignore? They were stealth checks]
...you run smack into a halfling man. You both are startled by the collision and a cry of surprise escapes your mouths before you can stifle them. The halfling man looks terribly bruised all over his body. He has several fingernails missing. He has burn marks on him, along with several cuts. He looks exhausted (you might even say he looks doubly exhausted). Then, Ishtar lets out an involuntary laugh at seeing your collision and says, a little too loudly, "I see you have met Finnan. I got worried when I saw Nog take you in there. I thought for sure he would wonder why he was not still strapped down to that table. I guess he is even more stupid than I thought." Looking up, you see the pale woman who healed you crouching behind the halfling. She is silently frowning at the 3 of you, mouthing the words, "Will you three be quiet?!"
Back in the torture room, you hear Nog's body jerk awake, and you hear his voice bellow, "Dog ran off! Come back dog!"
You and Ishtar both yell at the same time, "Run!" He is pointing back the way you came.
I choose a fillet knife and hand Ishtar a hammer and a meat hook...I run in the direction Ishtar points as quickly as I can trying to capitalize on our head start
You quickly realize that Finnan cannot keep pace with any of the rest of you. He is shoeless, and limping. Even if he had shoes, it's clear that he isn't capable of running, and even if he could run, he's got short legs. He can't keep up. Do you leave him behind, or keep pace with him, or something else?
Also, I just realized that I never gave you a physical description of Ishtar, other than to tell you that he is an elf. But, surely you have formed a mental image of him by now. What do you imagine that he looks like?
I see him with golden green skin and yellow eyes a constant obnoxious smirk leans up against walls a lot with one foot up...almost the Harrison ford of elves.
Once I realized we have someone who cant run i think quick and use prestidigitation to create three affects towards the opposite way out the door that we went in order to get Nog to turn his back to us when he first exits. I create a little mechanical ogre that has sparks coming out of its butt and quietly make a nog nog nog nog nog noise as the gears wind. I then motion for everyone to get up against the wall and whisper, “help me carry him Ishtar maybe the toy will by us time”
Ishtar agrees to help, and you and he are able to make it 3/4 of your normal speed--22 ft as your move, and 22 more as your dash action. You are 44 ft down the corridor, when Nog comes lumbering out of the room, and [Intelligence check for Nog: 13
Nog looks both ways, sees you and the others in the group 44 feet in one direction, and the sparking Nog-nog magical thing 10 feet in the other, hesitates only briefly, and proceeds to chase you.
Wait a moment before telling me what you want to do. I want to give you more descriptions of what you are seeing ahead, but I need to go get my map.
But, do go ahead and let me see your initiative roll.
Finnan is in no shape to fight, so for purposes of this scenario, he is a noncombatant. He will spend each round taking the Dodge Action. He has 5 HP currently and 9 max HP. His AC is 11.
Ishtar's initiative: 10
pale woman's initiative: 19
Nog's initiative: 13
