We can find the Townmaster and look into these Redbrands once we no longer have the responsibility.” Ny pays for her meal and gets up to follow Sven out the the cart. “I have a feeling we will meet these Redbrands soon enough.”

Those that make their way to Barthen's can notice that Barthen's is the biggest trading post in Phandalin. Its shelves stock most ordinary goods and supplies, including backpacks, bedrolls, rope, and rations. The place is open from sunup to sundown.
As you enter the store, a lean and balding human is busy taking notes behind the counter of the shop. He appears to be about 50 years of age. When you come in he gives you a greeting. "Welcome to Barthen's. I'm Elmer Are you looking for anything in particular? I can offer most anything adventurers as yourselves could possibly need."
Barthen's does not stock weapons or armor, but you can purchase other adventuring gear here, with the exception of items that cost more than 25 gp. (For prices, see Adventuring Gear" in the rulebook.)
Brats is going to walk up to the counter, doing his best to look over the counter. He's going to place a hand up on the counter and ask the keeper for a tenday worth of rations. "Excuse me kind sir, would you be so kind to get me about a tenday worth of rations?"
Petros chooses not to join the others as they make their way to Barthen's. Instead, he decides to wait for them at the town green. The bright morning sun has cleared the dew from the soft green grass and it is calling his name. Petros sits down with his lute. He begins to work through all of the traditional songs he can remember. Each one bleeding into the next as he picks up speed and shakes off the rust. Even though he is geographically separated from his own, he can share their songs with those so inclined to listen. This is truly the only way to quiet his bard heart.
Pops silently joins Petros, sitting and listening and people watching. His grim demeanor doesn't appear to thaw much, even though he's secretly enjoying the music.
Eventually he stands and wanders over to the shrine, across from the green, which he's been studying curiously from afar. (What's the "Shrine of Luck"?)
Sven walks up to Elmer and says "Greetings, we have the supplies that Gundren asked us to escort to town outside. Where is best to pull it around for you to unload? Speaking of Gundren, have you heard anything from him? We were looking to speak with him."
Brats will escort Sven and the supplies, sitting on the back, kicking his feet in the air. "These here are fine supplies! Best around!" He'll say chuckling.

He hands over the rations prepacked in parchment paper and tied up to keep things fresh.

You find a nice grassy area in a clearing to the northeast of the city. Up on a hill to the east, you notice a large manor from a distance. It appears run down from what you can tell.

As you approach, you find a small shrine made of stones. With a DC 12 religion check, you can tell the shine is dedicated to Tymora, goddess of luck and good fortune.
The shrine is in the care of a scholarly acolyte named Sister Garaele, a young elven woman. "Welcome weary traveler. Are you in need of Tymora's blessing? I am Sister Garaele."
Sven walks up to Elmer and says "Greetings, we have the supplies that Gundren asked us to escort to town outside. Where is best to pull it around for you to unload? Speaking of Gundren, have you heard anything from him? We were looking to speak with him."
Barthen snaps his finger to a couple of young clerks and points outside. "Supplies are here. Go start unloading them." They both rush outside to unload the wagon. "10 gold a piece was it? How many of you did Gundren hire?"
"I have not heard from Gundren yet. He was supposed to arrive yesterday. It's quite concerning that you all arrive before Gundren. Gundren is a dear friend of mine....." Barthen pauses for a moment. "If there is anything you can do to find him, I would be in your debt."
"Gundren spoke of discovering the lost mine of the Phandelver's Pact in the nearby hills. (Sven and Brats give me a DC 15 Intelligence (History) check) Gundren's two brothers, Nundro and Tharden, are camped somewhere outside of town. Barthen hasn't seen them in a tenday and expects the brothers to return "any day now" to resupply."

Brats History Check: 4
Brats would reply to Barthen, "Gundren hired 5 of us, however he left before us, we thought he might of been here already. But if you haven't seen him, and we haven't seen him, I think he must of gotten lost down the trail."
Brats would reply to Barthen, "Gundren hired 5 of us, however he left before us, we thought he might of been here already. But if you haven't seen him, and we haven't seen him, I think he must of gotten lost down the trail."
Brats, you remember reading about the Phandelver's Pact.
More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver's Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge (called the Forge of Spells), where magic items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby human town of Phandalin prospered as well.
But then disaster struck when orcs swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path. A powerful force of orcs reinforced by evil mercenary wizards attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magic treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost.
Brats, hearing Barthen mention the Pandelver's Pack, will spark his interest. He hops off the cart and walks over. "Did you say Phandelver's Pact? As in Wave Echo Cave Phandeler's Pact? No one knows where the cave is since the orc raids. Did he have an idea of where it was?"

"That'd be the one. Gundren told me in confidence he even had a map, but he never showed anyone, as far as I know, not even me. If he's missing, the map I bet is missing as well."
Brats contemplates for a moment than responds. "Did he happen to say anything about where he think it might be? If you are such a good friend, I'm sure he would of gave you some bit of information?"
Petros feels rejuvenated having scratched the performer's itch. He sees Pops standing next to a shrine and joins him. Throwing his arm around the shoulder of Pops "Who is your new lady friend Pops?" Petros scans his surroundings. "I was thinking about taking a bit of a walk while we wait for the others to return. Would you care to join me?" Petros begins to head towards the east side of town.
The shrine is in the care of a scholarly acolyte named Sister Garaele, a young elven woman. "Welcome weary traveler. Are you in need of Tymora's blessing? I am Sister Garaele."
"Hello, Sister," he grumbles, "I could use a good blessing." He hands her one gold piece.
"Hello, Sister," he grumbles, "I could use a good blessing." He hands her one gold piece.
"Thank you, sir. Tymora will watch over you." She says a quick prayer. "If you will be in town for some time, I could use some help. The leaders of my church have asked me to undertake a mission in the area, but I found myself unable to complete the task. There is a banshee named Agatha that has an answer to a question we have about a spellbook. I sought out Agatha in her lair, but the creature did not appear to me. If you could act as an intermediary and bring Agatha a suitable gift for me I will repay your efforts. I have a jeweled silver comb to present to the banshee. Then you must persuade the creature to tell what she knows about the location of a spellbook belonging to a legendary mage named Bowgentle. I believe that someone who flatters Agatha's vanity might be able to trade the comb for an answer. I can provide three potions of healing for this task."

Sven
"There are 5 of us the Gundren hired Elmer, and I agree it is most concerning that Gundren did not beat us to town. We do indeed need to find whatever evidence we can of Gundren's location. We were attacked by goblins on the way into town, they had set an ambush and we saw what I'm pretty sure was Gundren's and Sildar's horses dead on the road. We went to investigate but ran into more than we could handle and were lucky to get out alive. Didn't see any further sign of Gundren other than his horse being dead on the road. And what is this you speak of the Phandelver's pact and a mine?"

"If you head north back to the Triboar Trails, you will be able to take it east. After a few days, you should be there. The town of Conyberry has long since been abandoned, but it is fairly easy to find considering it is on the main road. From the ruins of Conyberry, an old trail leads northwest into Neverwinter Wood. You come to the edge of town. the last building is closed this early in the morning. A sign hanging from the from says, "the sleeping Giant." It appears to you to be a tap room. No doubt the reason it is closed early in the morning. From there, you can see an old dilapidated manor on the hill. You'd estimate a half hours walk.
