Morph's first attack strikes the wall behind Laniel. His second one hits the Grell squarely, bruising its brain-like body.

Rethan charges in behind Laniel, recoiling slightly as their foe comes into view, but recovering quickly.  He lashes out at the grell three times in quick succession with his staff.

Rethan's second blow crushes the grell like it is made of papier mache. It crumples to the ground lifeless.

Titus moves deeper into the room and secures the area. Keeping a keen eye out for any movement in case there are more Grell lurking.

DM shield:

Titus moves into the room but neither sees nor hears anything.

(Atuan is up.)

Like Titus, Atuan moves into the room and looks around carefully for any other threats.

DM shield:

Out of the corner of his eye, he sees a flicker of movement. It is a shadow, cast across the western wall as something moves into the nook to the north. Acting quickly, Atuan casts Guiding Bolt at whatever lurks there.

Guiding Bolt Attack: 13 Damage: 9

The grell shrieks and glows where the bolt hit it. It slither/crawls out of the nook and attacks Atuan twice. (The next attack on this grell has advantage)

Tentacle Attack: 9 Damage: 9

Beak Attack: 13 Damage: 6

Neither attack hits. Everyone may go again in any order.

Titus charges at the Grell and swings his axe at the creature

Attack: 17 Damage: 6

Rethan follows and attempts to smash the creature the same way he did the first one.

Seeing the other Grell silhouetted by Atun's magic, Morph follows his friends attacks with his own.

He waves his rod again and another pair of twin beams shoot out at the Grell, one after another.

Action: Cast Eldritch Blast at new Grell:

Beam 1: Attack: 10 - Damage: 5 force damage.

Beam 2: Attack: 15 - Damage: 3 force damage.

Laniel whips around and launches himself at the second grell, smashing at it twice with his quarterstaff (+1) and finishing with an ax kick.

Quarterstaff Attack: 20 Damage: 10

Quarterstaff Attack: 18 Damage: 8

Ax kick Attack: 25 Damage: 9

Laniel hits twice with his staff but misses with the kick as the grell shrinks away from him.

(Thanks for running the opening of that! I didn't see this post till just now. Also, I just remembered that Atuan has advantage on initiative rolls, so I'll try to remember that)

With a flicker of motion, a knife seemingly folds out from under his coat. With a rapid slash, Atuan tries to discourage closer acquaintance with the beast.

The grell, looking haggard from its rapid beating, does not suffer the killing blow just yet. It attacks twice, once with its tentacles and the other with a snapping bite (4 and 3).

The tentacles snake out towards Titus while it snaps at Atuan.

Beak Attack against Atuan: 12 Damage: 6

The flailing attacks fall limply on their targets. Everyone may go again in any order.

Rethan continues to press the grell with another flurry of blows from his staff.

Rethan's first blow crushes the grell to the ground, lifeless. After a tense few moments in the dark room, nothing else comes forward.

"Well," says Laniel. "A little bit of excitement we can handle, I suppose."

"Wow, you all are really impressive! When the opportunity arises to see you go all out, its really something."

Morph shakes his head with a smile at the impressive physical display given by his martially oriented friends.

Morph's focus turns back to the room, and he proceeds to cast Detect Magic and examine the room and the 2 dead creatures for anything of interest.
