Kaltent sighs theatrically at Shift. "I thought I told you to quit sleeping on the job!" he says. "At this rate we might have to start splitting your share of the loot between the rest of us!" he adds as he moves to try to finish off the last Ghast (if Zinn didn't), making sure to "accidentally" (and lightly) step on Shift in the process.

In his haste, Zinn'srays strike the floor, the ceiling, and a wall with only a single one of them hitting the ghast. But Kaltent'sstrike splits the ghast open and it deflates to the ground in a sickly squelch.
Kaltent smirks. “Have you ever thought of trying to....I dunno....not get hit, instead of of standing there taking all the damage? Maybe try dodging when someone swings at you?”

This room contains the remains of a mining operation. Pickaxes and hammers litter the floor, as do the gnawed bones, torn black robes, and rubber boots of a female half-elf, probably once a wizard. Notably absent is the half-elf’s skull. The room contains little else in the way of useful items.
A short passage leads into the adjacent room. Here, Kaltentfinds an exposed bit of stonework with a thick vein of copper ore running through it.
He also sees a scrap of paper lying on the floor. It is a partial entry from a wizard's journal that reads:
Day 10. With lightning and copper wires, I created a pack of ghouls. Hal was not impressed. He says I’m not ready for Dweomercore and its arcane secrets. I’ll show him. His flesh golem has given me an idea for a trap more devious than any Hal could devise. Lightning — is there anything it can’t do?
Another passage leads out of this room but ends in a collapsed hallway.
Zinn rustles through the papers, as he reads through the journal entry he scoffs as the sloppy work of amateurs, and continues on grumbling to himself in Dranconic about sound trap design.
After he finishes looking around the room he addresses his companions. “Seems like just some junk and a dead end... shall we double back and make our way towards the alter room?”

The party find their way back to the room with a copper floor. They climb into the chute leading down into the Altar room. Even though the chute is not steep, it takes everyone to get the crate down without smashing it open. Statue comes through last, barely able to squeeze into the chute head first and wriggling in the most awkward way down to the room below.
A red stone altar covered with small, dirty handprints stands in the northern alcove. The altar is a 3-foot-tall, 500-or-so-pound tapered block of dark red stone engraved with Dwarvish prayers to Dumathoin, the Keeper of Secrets under the Mountain. Greasy goblin handprints cover the altar.
Abandoned mining carts litter the rooms here. Some are overturned or taken apart. Other old, rusted mining equipment is scattered about as well.
On the east side of the room moves a giant blob of mouths and eyes. The Blackblades have seen these before. It is a gibbering mouther. It begins inching its way towards the party as soon as the first one is down the chute. By the time Statue makes it out of the chute, it is nearly upon them.
"Do try to stay awake this time," Kaltent tells Shift as the mouther moves to attack. Then he draws his rapier, strides over to the mouther, and strikes out at the creature with his rapier before retreating away from it again.

Shift shoots Kaltent the evil eye, at the mention of missing out on loot, and then cries out and swats at Kaltent as he steps on him.
"Hey! Watch it!"
Shift gets to his feet as Kaltent bisects the last ghast.
"Ha, if I hadn't taken all that damage for the rest of you, it might have been one of you taking an unwanted nap on the floor."
Shift terns to Bronx,
"Well maybe not Bronx, but he's made of sterner stuff."
Shift pats Bronx on the shoulder.

Shift shoot Kaltent more evil eye and shakes his finger at him
"You! Why don't you make yourself useful and check out the room, while I try and heal up."
Shift slumps against the wall and slides down into a sitting possession.
Shift closes his eyes again and you see the faintest aura of radiant light around him for a second, before it fades away.
A moment later two spectral baby fox kits appear in front of him and jump into his lap and begin play fighting, jumping over and around him.
Shift cups his hands in his lap and a small mot of radiant light appears there.
At the sight of the mot, the two fox kit's dive after it, continuing to play.
After about 20 seconds of playing in Shift's lap, the two fox kit's fade away.
Shift looks somewhat refreshed by the encounter, but is still not looking so good (20/46).

Shift climbs to his feet with a groan and follows the other into the room and checks in with Kaltent.
"So find anything interesting? Is there a way through to the washrooms we found last time?"
Shift see's the bones and other remains of the half-elf, and toes around in them to see if there is anything interesting to be found.

Nothing else interesting, I'm afraid.
Shift nods at Zinn's assessment,
"Yeah certainly was a dead end for this one."
Shift toes the skeleton again while giving Zinn a big grin.
"It looks like they never finished mining through to the areas south of us, if our map is accurate."
"Heh, you never know, next time we come through this area, they may have a passage through."
Shift waits for his friends to finish anything else they may want to do before following the others back out and around.

Bronx shuffles the bones around a bit, sniffing at them. "Needs to be bigger for Topher." he declares, moving forward with the party.
"Let's keep moving," Kaltent says.
