The goblin looks at the party whispering amongst themselves. His mind frantically paces. He appears desperate to stay alive. A small stream of urine emits from the bottom of where the goblin is tied up.
"Paladin!" he yells towards Rastin. "I see from your sigils and equipment you are a man of faith. Does your faith have room for a poor goblin like me? Am I not worthy of your god's mercy?"
He turns to the rest of the party, "Best you hurry before you are noticed. Klarg has many visitors. Take me as a prisoner or tie me up, but don't hurt me!"

Rastin is tired of bloodshed, especially unnecessary killing. He hopes his new companions have the character needed to be considered friends. "They are quite strong combatants,"thinks Rastin, "but do they have the strength of character to be friends?"
Rastin turns to his party to address them all, but meets the eyes of Autzen squarely, "I have no love for goblins, this or any other, but this one has done nothing to us. He cowered, ran, and is now pleading for his life. Even before we attacked, as we needed to, this wretched creature appeared to be an unwilling minion of the dead bugbear. I must ask that we not kill this one. He has not earned death, at least not at our hands. Let's bind him, gag him, and shove him in that chest while we clear this cave. Also, consider that he seems to know a good deal of information about our enemies. If what he has told us so far turns out to be true," Rastin pauses and looks at the pathetic goblin making sure he understands that his life now depends upon the veracity of the information he provided, "then he may be useful for what I expect will be the next chapter of our journey to find this castle and deal with Grol. What say you?"
Rastin hopes his companions will be convinced by his argument, at least by the logical aspects, if not the appeal for justice.
It is as Autzen feared, this companion seems to values his own quasi code over the task at hand. In matters of life and death, there is no room for mistakes, this is a mistake.
"It would seem we have a difference of opinions. While this goblin showed no backbone it is only because he was over matched, not out of some sense of morality. Once removed from the threat we pose, he will inflict suffering on someone else. He will find his next victim and enslave them... that is the goblin way... his next victim, like the employer we seek now, will receive the worst treatment this goblin can dish out. Would you have that on your conscience?"
"I propose a compromise. We let your gods decide this fools fate with a throw of stones. If the angels, or fairies, or whatever fanciful beings you all follow see it your way, then so be it, I will abide. If they do not, then it is obviously not their will. But, if he lives he'll be your responsibility, Rastin"
"Autzen, my friend, do you see no value in the potential information this goblin may be able to provide? It seems Adolmain and Solaris may. I'm not suggesting we let him free to roam. I propose that we ensure he cannot escape and we use him for the information he can provide, once we see if it was worthwhile. I do not like to leave things to chance, I prefer to make a decision based on logic and reason. Thus, I propose we vote rather than gamble. You know my vote."
"No, I see more risk than reward. This goblin will live to see another day thanks to this vote... and that day will be spent causing as much pain to others as possible. I can live with that, and it would seem you all can as well. He lives... and is your responsibility."
It seems clear to Autzen there will be moments when he will have to take matters into his own hands to ensure they all get out of this alive.
The party members vote. The goblin's heart sinks as he knows Autzen's position.
The Paladin shows mercy, casting his vote to spare the goblin's life.
Solaris and Adolmain agree with Rastin.
"Thank you oh powerful ones!" the goblin says. He hops pathetically into the chest that once housed Klarg's treasure, imploring the group to secure him. He attempts to drop the chest's top over him, but he is slightly too big, so all you see are two panicked eyes looking out of a 6 inch gap between the chest and its cover, peeking like a child playing hide and seek. You suspect that this goblin simply wants to live, and won't be any trouble.
(Someone with good dexterity should roll (WITH advantage) so I can know the security of the knot and such. Each of you have a 50 foot rope in your starting provisions, so whoever ties him up should remove from your equipment list (I assume you aren't using the rope of climbing). Now I need to know the plan, e.g., ability checks, formation, etc. Please refer to recently posted map to let me know positions and such. I'll update accordingly. I'm awarding each of you10 EXP for resolving the dispute amicably).

Autzen would clearly have preferred to put this animal down and move on with his day, but now, ironically....
"Aldomain, rope?"
Slowly approaching the chest, Autzen roughly flips the goblin over, binds his feet, binds his hands, ties the two together, rips some of the goblin's clothing off and shoves it down his throat. Now leaning into his ear, Autzen whispers "Yafr vyiv qav miw wmasl haf oijar zmuw vih... Xe safdv laz mijy."

(Need initiative for Autzen and Rastin. Tell me rough formation (e.g., 2-1-1 with XYZ up front) and I can position you, or of course you can give me specific coordinates on the map).
Without laying claim to the Morningstar, Rastin picks it up, wipes it clean and decides it may be wise to have a shield for the rest of this encounter. Thus, he sheathes his greatsword and tests the weight of the large club in his hand...it feels good. This is a weapon he practiced with often growing up. He grabs his shield in his other hand and prepares to move, ready to take a position at the front of his group with the monk, who he values having by his side due to his keen senses. (Initiative 5)

With an air of confidence in the air, the hearty group of companions resolve their differences about treasure and handling prisoners; and prepare to enter the cave to the north of Klarg's lair. A jumbled group of races and abilities, united in one goal - to complete their mission. They aren't heroes yet, but destiny appears to call them to that direction.
(I'll update map soon and then we can proceed with the next encounter)
Rastin peeks around the corner of the stairs and, as the imprisoned (and alive) goblin said, three goblins guard the west entrance to the room the companions seek to enter. Informing the group of his findings, Autzen's deduces that that the goblins aren't expecting rescuers to come from Klarg's cave (and based on how liked Klarg appeared to be by his henchman, the goblins probably wanted to avoid Klarg and Ripper).
The goblins talk amongst themselves, but nothing of interest. The map the party found on the road to Phandelver appears accurate, as a bridge is located on the west side of the room. If the bound goblin was correct, Sildar is across such bridge. Whether he is alive, dead, or worse, the party may soon find out.
