Cinna hands a stick to Trogdor, and offers one to each of the others as well. "I'm glad I brought my woodcarving tools with me! Hopefully these are of some use, though it seems unlikely we would happen upon a vampire asleep in its resting place."
Like the sign they noticed by the gates, they have three miles till they reach the Village of Barovia. The sign also labeled this road as Old Svalich Road. The party trudges through the muddy road for what feels like hours. Constantly hearing howling sounds from the woods, as well as feeling the cold breeze brushing against them. The party reaches a point in which they spot a scarecrow stationed on the side of the road. The scarecrow is hoisted up on a crucifix. The twigs and hay that constructs the scarecrow can be seen contorting from the wind, and the party notices a eerie gleam from its eyes. In front of the scarecrow, lies a jelly-filled pastry resting in a picnic basket. How does the party react to this?
Eldon just paused as they came across the scarecrow, his body naturally freezing, he just begins to mutter a prayer under his breath as his eyes glowed with a yellow sheen. They were so close to village hopefully, but he was also just on edge now after their previous encounter.
[OOC] Eyes of the Grave - As an action, you know the location of any undead within 60 ft. of you that isn’t behind total cover and that isn’t protected from divination magic until the end of your next turn.
Eldon just shook off the concern that had grown in him "We should be good, I don't forsee any undead coming at us." he just continued walking forward. Even though his sight had given him some confidence to continue forward, he still kept his shield close ready to defend against something. This domain just naturally made him uncomfortable.
As Cinna offers a hefty sharpened stick to him, Kestrell takes it and slides it into his belt: "Thanks Cinna, that is some nice wood carving! Quite a fine point on there. I don't know whether to hope this comes in handy...or not!"
As the party is walking briskly down Old Svalich Road, a particularly loud howl from the woods spooks Kestrell. He jumps and says: "Damn! These things are starting to freak me out!"
When they come up on the scare crow holding the pastry, Kestrell says: "I'm a sucker for a pastry, but even I don't want that one. Why are it's eyes glowing? I don't think anyone should take that. Maybe we should blindfold those creepy eyes."
Kestrell casts Prestidigitation to create a black oval covering the scarecrow's gleaming eyes.
Eldon just looks at Kestrell "Although I understand the concern, I don't think we need to see if the pastry is magical. Let us just leave it alone and keep walking."
"OK, I lied. I do want that pastry! If it's not magical, what's the harm? Perhaps someone just put out a nice basket of baked goods on the side of the road with a creepy scarecrow to welcome visitors to this vampire cursed land..."
"I do not think that would be wise. We have already seen many dangers here, and something doesn't have to be magical to be dangerous. Who knows what poisons may be hidden in it?"
"Poisons? I didn't think of that. Good thinking Cinna. But why would there be a scarecrow here with a jelly donut beckoning poor, hungry, tired travelers?"
"I don't know. It seems very strange indeed, and I wouldn't trust anything in a place like this, though I don't see anything particularly concerning about that specific pastry."
Upon further inspection of the pastry, Kestrell seems to doubt himself. He's conflicted, as he's not certain if taking this pastry is the wisest choice, but it seems his curiosity got the best of him. He feels famished from his traveling and having been hurt by the zombies. He may be compelled to eat the pastry to regain energy.
Holding the speared pastry at the end of his vampire stick, Kestrell turns it around looking at it. Then he looks at the group: "Anyone want to split it with me?"

Since seeing the vampire, Trogdor has mostly been silent. His sullen demeanor being the only expression of his thoughts. Finally he begins to speak,
"What the hell are we dealing with here! First dead men up and walking, and now vampires!? This is beyond helping one sick women."
After his outburst he catches his breath. Then a smile comes over his face.
"Well, if the gig just got bigger, so did the reward. Cinna hand me one of those pointy sticks, I guess we're heading to town."
Cinna hands a stick to Trogdor, and offers one to each of the others as well. "I'm glad I brought my woodcarving tools with me! Hopefully these are of some use, though it seems unlikely we would happen upon a vampire asleep in its resting place."

Eldon doesn't sense anything undead about the scarecrow, or anything within his sixty foot radius would seem to be undead.

The eerie gleam in the scarecrow's eyes is now snuffed from the spell cast by Kestrell. Nothing else seems to happen though.

"That's better! I was getting the bug eyes thing from that scarecrow."
"Now what? Eldon doesn't notice anything undead in the area. Can anyone detect magic on this delicious looking pastry?"

"I agree."
Kestrell draws his vampire stick that he got from Cinna and carefully spears the Jelly Pastry then slowly lifts it away from the scarecrow.
