What other spells do you have? Because we're useless while he has Silence up.
Can you not use verbal components through Stokes?
Stolas is only good for delivering touch spells. We're useless as long as Silence is up. Khan hears Anastasia in her ear telling her to shoot Toxin and end the spell.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Xenophon: Topaz Dragonborn Fighter (ixi's Dragon of Icespire Peak)
Toxic catches the 2nd arrow (Assuming only the first post is allowed) and reduces the damage by 16, causing no damage, and therefore no concentration check.
If the 2nd post is allowed, Toxic happily and nimbly dodges each attack’s.
Correct. The first rolls will be used. The first arrow goes wide, while the other speeds toward Toxic head-on but the warforged catches the arrow with a smile.
(Sorry, I have to go to sleep now and then go to work. So while I'm gone, Seth will just be doing whatever he can to help his team win without using his spell slots, readying an Action to grab the key bags and start untying them once Khan finally gets them and gives them to him, doing the puzzle after. Hopefully maybe Veluth can still win this.)
How did the owl help the goblin dive into the dirt and get advantage on an acrobatics check? Was the owl able to push the goblin hard enough to guide her through the dirt?
How is the familiar helping find keys in the dirt and get advantage on a slight of hand check? Did the familiar take the goblin by the wrists and lead her in an attempt to grab the keys?
How is a familiar helping with shooting arrows at a target at a distance? Is it helping line up the sights while the bow is in the goblins hands?
Seems the familiar mechanic of just saying “it helps” without explanation and giving advantage for all attacks and checks is rather one sided. It’s like having an extra player on that team granting advantage for just being there and breaks the fairness I think everyone is trying to shoot for here. Just my 2 cents.
——————
According to the rules, the familiar has its own initiative roll and acts independently of the owner. Also the familiar can not attack, but can take an action, including help, on its turn.
The help action is the following:
You can lend your aid to another creature in the completion of a task. When you take the Help action, the creature you aid gains advantage on the next ability check it makes to perform the task you are helping with, provided that it makes the check before the start of your next turn.
Alternatively, you can aid a friendly creature in attacking a creature within 5 feet of you. You feint, distract the target, or in some other way team up to make your ally’s Attack more effective. If your ally attacks the target before your next turn, the first Attack roll is made with advantage.
(So if the owl going in and being a distraction, that is never said. This would give Whisper a chance to attack the familiar on Whisper’s turn but the actions of the familiar is never explained. Whisper may not be aware of the fact the owl has to be next to her to grant the goblin advantage on her attack, putting the owl within reach to attack it.
Also, the goblin would not get advantage on both attacks like what had been rolled according to the rules.)
First of all, Niver is 100% correct. We all want this to be as fair as possible. If at ANY point there is something going on you have a question about, please do not hesitate to post in here or PM me directly and we will work toward the most fair outcome.
That being said there are some 5e features, that do make some of this difficult. The whole suggestion fiasco to speak of. While nothing was wrong with it per se, and it was well within the 5e rules, I think in this Survivor setting, maybe that spell should not have a place, in future challenges, I do not see a similar issue, however, I do see there are some other bad possibilities with DAY ACTIONS. One could cast suggestion and decide what DAY ACTION that player takes. So when this challenge ends, suggestion will go on the banlist. Those of you that have suggestion may replace it in your spell list AFTER this challenge. Those of you that gain access to the spell via class/racial feature or anything else, I will get with you about a replacement spell.
Now, for find familiar. I will admit, this is the first time I've been in a game with someone who has that spell, which now that I'm seeing it's utility, seems like my players have not considered its usefulness. I say that to say, I'm not well versed exactly in what the spell can and cannot do. So, I will say that what it looks like the only thing that has been done incorrectly, at least to me, is that the familiar, Stolas, (1) does not have his own initiative and (2) LeShanna should have had an opportunity attack after Stolas helped Khan distract her for advantage. Currently, Stolas is still within 5ft of Toxic, as its last action was to help on Khan's attack against Toxic, therefore hasn't moved and Toxic would not have an opportunity attack (yet?). Now, the map is a little tricky, because since it was so long, I had to make it look funky. That being said, earlier in here I did explain the solver and the leader were actually 10ft or so away from each other, so Whisper would not get an attack of opportunity, due to it never entering her range and (3) due to the range of the obstacle course, the owl could not have made it to Toxic in one turn, as the owl only has a fly speed of 60ft. and as Khan and Stolas were at the second set of keys, they were at least 180 feet away from the starting line, so another 15 from Toxic. So I will remove the advantage on Khan's attacks. Because the lanes are adjacent to each other (despite the way the map looks-as you look at the middle lane, you see all 3 paths are actually a continuation of the same straight line), Stolas could make it to LeShanna during Khan's attacks on her. Now I do not see anywhere that had advantage on the second attack, for Khan. The invisible creatures had advantage on both because eldritch blast creates the beams at the same time, and it isn't treated as an extra attack, for example. So, seeing Khan's first roll against Toxic had advantage, but both rolls missed anyway, I do not see anything that needs to be retconned, other than Stolas is back with Khan and never left to Stolas.
Now, Anastasia can command Stolas to help Khan. Because Anastasia doesn't know what Khan will do, it is up to Khan to describe how the owl helps her. I've seen where she has done with in at least some posts, it may not be for all, but seeing as how Stolas could help push Khan through the logs and help search on her own, maybe even Stolas pulled the first key bag out, I do see a way that Stolas could have helped Khan on her actions. However, if anyone has a familiar helping them with their action please describe how the familiar is helping you.
I think that about covers everything, if I missed anything I can address that as well. Like I said, this is a team competitive setting, but it is all in the spirit of fairness and fun! So Anastasia, I will need you to roll initiative for Stolas.
Lastly, this is the first setting of its kind, at least to my knowledge, so some things may have to be decided on the fly, like suggestion for example. So I appreciate everyone's willingness to work with it and help make this game fun and fair!
"Toxic creates a muted area around Anastasia and Seth! Without their voices and the ability to move, will this be the end of VELUTHE in this challenge?"
"Khan fires off two arrows, but Toxic is able to catch and dodge! Very impressive showing for the IKLIDA tribe!"
"Whisper seems to be casting something in Seth's direction!"
Seth Int Saving Throw: 22
Von waits a few seconds. "Well, if something is going to happen, it's not right now!"
"LeShanna is revived with only her largest wounds sealed! She looks incredibly groggy!"
So I wake up at the end of my turn, no actions this round?
Yes, that is correct. In a non-combat challenge when you drop to 0, you come back at the end of your next turn with 5 hit points. Of course, right now the only thing it seems that could happen is if Khan spends every turn attacking you, then you drop, this could go on for a very long time. So events that cause a neverending chain will not be permitted, otherwise we would be waiting round by round for Khan to roll a 1 and miss and I'd rather not put everyone through that.
Now, I'm trying to think of the best way to do that. What about this, and I'm asking for thoughts on this. What if you regain 5 hit points, but you regain temporary hit points equal to your maximum hit points minus 5. That way they are gone after this challenge, but you still won't just go unconscious and wake up in a never ending cycle. I think I will try that out. So go ahead and take temporary hit points equal to your max minus 5.
Anastasia and Seth you guys still have actions, but I don't believe Seth can do anything right now. Anastasia, how do you spend your turn?
"Anastasia finally pulls out a weapon, good thing it's ranged since you can't cross tribal lines! However, the bolt is dodged by Toxic! IKLIDA is starting to pull away. Pick it up if you want to win Khan!"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Assuming now that Stolas did not move away from Khan, the pink goblin will attempt to look for the keys with Stolas helping her by also ruffling through the sand. I assume that if this key was buried here then the sand isn't very resistant, since it would have had to have been dug up, to place the bag in it, so I think it would be soft enough for the birds talons to sort of scan through the sand with me.
Well now that I'm thinking about it, that probably wouldn't give me advantage, but it would have Stolas make its own Sleight of Hand check, since it is looking through it itself. The find familiars can use actions except attack, so considering how looking for this key isn't an attack, it should be fine. Maybe that's more of what Squigs meant by the owl could have found it himself?
I will accept that. Stolas is helping you look for the keys, but not exactly taking the help to give you advantage. That makes sense. That second roll would have only become a 7 with your modifier instead of Stolas', so it shouldn't make a huge difference.
"Khan cannot make any progress with this key bag, keep digging Khan!"
