"We appreciate the concern, but this is well within the purview of the city watch. If there is any need for the Lords Alliance or the Order, we will approach the factions for their help. If they decide you are the ones they want to send fine. But until you have the authority of the Open Lord of Waterdeep herself, then if we see you there, we will count it as tresspassing and have you arrested. This is a delicate matter, and the people you are asking us to monitor have personal security and are very important in the city. You may as well be asking to enter the palace of waterdeep!" the guard exclaims.
"But I don't think that will change. Fine, you can come with us. But you are only to observe. You are not to ask any questions unless we specifically say so, and you are to not get involved. You can wait at the door," he says. "You can come along, only if you agree to these terms. If you breach them, you will be arrested. If that is not fair, then stay out of our way," he says with agitation.
"Should have just left them out of it..." Saralyssa says with a sigh as she moves over to watch the guards enter as well. "Now we miss out on the fun."
(OOC: Just to have it be made clear going forward....)
Unless notified of her intent beforehand, and even if then, once Mairi learned of the involvement of the guards, true to her word, the half-sun elf makes herself scarce fairly quick, if not inconspicuously on the spot. While she would at least stay in the general neighborhood to provide in the event things get particularly noisy enough to warrant her attention, more than that... She'd stay uninvolved in a visible sense.

“I feel that, Sara,” Briga says. “Tyrus got all in my head about how it might look and how we have no reason not to go legit on this, and I couldn’t get his damn practical and reasonable voice out of my head. He’s probably right, I just hope we don’t end up regretting it.”
The guard makes his way to Gralhund Villa, about ten feet ahead of you as he knows where he is headed and is familiar with the area. It takes about ten minutes once him and a contingent of a dozen guards approach the place. While searching inside, the nimblewright detector begins to slow down. When he comes out, he comes up to Briga. "OK, thanks for letting us know the situation. We found the Lord of the house unconscious and the lady of the house in shock. Their personal guard says they had been held hostage by the Black Network for more than a tenday. The guard said Lord Gralhund killed most of them himself when he led a revolt against them.
Their leader, an Urstul Floxin, was also here. Apparently he got away. His name is one familiar to us and he has avoided our capture for months now. We're stepping up our efforts to find him. No mechanical constract in there but the guard said it was delivered there weeks ago. They took it in and the guard told me Lady Gralhund reported it stole something from her," the Sergant of the watch updates you. "The situation is under control now," he says, as the nimblewright detector comes to a full stop.
As soon as the detector started to slow down Saralyssa would have been moving. She would try to figure out which way it was heading and start after it, figuring it was leaving the villa.
“Looks like Sara is going to keep tracking the construct. That’s crazy, these people were hostages and we could have helped them sooner, but we were too worried about overstepping our bounds. Be glad if the time you guys wasted trying to pull rank no one else was killed in there. Next time if you’re not going to cooperate faster we’re less likely to trust you to reach out to you, y’know,” Briga admonishes the guards. “So, what do you guys think? We could interview the former hostages to see if they can give us any other details, or just resume following the tracker. Thoughts?”
As Sara follows the thing getting slower, it goes for a few streets before it begins speeding up and it looks like you are getting closer. Sara continues to follow where it leads and then as you get to an alley in the North Ward it spins as fast as it did when with Nim.
Saralyssa would pause only then to see if anyone had come with her. She would have been too preoccupied up till this point to even think about the others.
“Oh hells, the action went that way. I am booking it after Sarah. Mairi, if you need to do your journalist thing, I get that, but I’m heading after Sara in case she runs into trouble,” Briga says, rushing to catch up with Sara and the detector.
As you go down the alley, a mechanical device that looks similar (but not identical) to the one at the temple of Gond jumps out aggressively and charges with weapons.

“Good enough for me, I guess, and if you need our help you’re close enough to shout,” Briga says. “Let’s see where this lead goes.”
Briga watched the guardsmen make their entry.

"Someone should be the thinking one I suppose." Saralyssa says with a grin. "That will never be me though."

Briga follows Sara.
The Nimblewright detector starts whiring really quickly by an alley that is filled with uncollected garbage in the North Ward.
"Ready to see about this thing then?" Saralyssa asks the others, as she moves to enter the alley.
Briga nods, ready to draw her glaive or her crossbow as needed, and enters.
As you go down the alley, a mechanical device that looks similar (but not identical) to the one at the temple of Gond jumps out aggressively and charges with weapons.
