[OOC: Tyrus is happy with the division of funds on the sale of the silver ingots now that he knows that it is legit 'spoils of war'. He wouldn't have been happy otherwise.
He is also happy to accompany Briga on her trip to the markets to pick up a few odds and end (DM, do you need a list of purchases, or can we just update our character sheets?), but needs to end up back at the Yawning Portal where some of his gear was left. He also needs to get a long rest to recover his magic.
He doesn't need Griff's crossbow, he has his own.
One thing he is interested in finding out before they leave the warehouse is the location of at least one of these yellow symbols that have been seen in the sewers. Waterdeep is a big city, the group could spend weeks searching its sewers and not find anything without at least having a starting point.]

Briga makes small talk about how she wants to save up for a magic glaive and become a famous hero of Waterdeep, but seems a bit distressed at how the kenku were able to drive the group off in the initial onslaught attempt. "I've got to get a lot stronger. Like a loooot stronger, if I'm going to have bards singing about me. I mean, bards who aren't personal friends and party members."
And so the group who find themselves together because of an incident in a tavern, go shopping around Waterdeep. As you go around, being the winter, a lot of stores close earlier in Waterdeep than they do the rest of the year.
Thankfully, that time has not yet come as you trudge your way through the snow-covered streets. The first part of your trip takes you to the market in the Castle Ward, just north of the Yawning Portal. The largest market, that isn't one of the wards, is still open for business and various tradesmen and women selling goods and calling out different seller cries about fruit, armour, and various artisans ready to make some work and to take some time training apprentices, should they show they have the relevant potential.
(OOC: I'm going to cover all items here, but feel free to respond to any part of below that is relevant to you. I'll start with the Market in the Castle Ward - which has everything quite near to each other, then I'll let you know when I've moved on to the Market Ward - this area is a much bigger area, think of it like its own Market Town - where there are plenty of different vendors that have more permanent structures.)
There is a man selling various weapons including crossbows, bows, and quarterstaffs, and the stall is named "Woody's Woodcarvers," Briga is able to get the crossbow, the bolts and the case she wants from here.
Not far from him is a blacksmith where Briga can purchase the crowbar.
The next stop takes Tyrus to a stall that is operated by a gnome man. As you approach, there's a slight explosion and you hear a "Oh for fu..." before it trails off into a whisper. "I'll get it right one day, ah, a customer! A pleasure, a pleasure, what can Whilloghby Ticklefoot do for you?" he says in a overly friendly tone. Tyrus can see he is selling Tinker's kits here.
Griffdar is able to easily locate a stall which sells components for different spells, a mixture of bags filled with different kinds of dust, gems, and bat guano in jars is available at the stall, including chalk.
(OOC: That's the Castle Ward items, moving onto the Market Ward - some of you will need to make trips to both of these locations to get everything you've asked for - and then it is going to be coming up to about 10 pm at night).
The Portable Ram that Briga is searching for can be bought from a shop in the Market Ward that is off one of the alleys, in a slightly out-of-sight area. Items used to break down doors usually only attract two types of clients - the ones that want to break into somewhere to get something, or adventurers. Of course, the city itself is full of adventurers, so even this out-of-the-way area is hiving with activity outside Theobold's Adventuring Supplies, the name of the shop in which you see the Portable Ram, also being sold here are various tools and other equipment including climbing gear, various small pouches that could be used to store components, and pitons. The shop is looked after by a halfling man, who is busy tending to a line of customers with the help of what looks to be a slightly younger halfling woman.
For the Potions, a shop in the Market Ward known as Sirena's Apocathary is much quieter, but you also see them tidying up suggesting that they are almost finished for the day and are just preparing to lock up, but have not yet closed. You see brooms and mops moving around the place cleaning on their own and a bronze dragonborn woman standing near a desk, controlling these household chores with waves of her hand as you come in. "I'll be right with you," she says and makes her way around to the other side of the desk. "What can I do for you. Looking at Griff, she adds "looks like you've been in a bit of a scrap - looking to get... more prepared?" as she gestures to the cuts on Griffdar's body.
For the work to be done on the glaive that Briga requests, you head over to Stanimir's Metalworks. Stanimir, a dwarven man who is currently hammering away at a longsword sees you enter and after a moment puts down his hammer and aks "What cannae I do for ya?"
The final stop in the Market Ward (based on where else you need to go) is a place to get scrolls. You do locate a book shop with a sign that is shaped like a wizard's hat on a stack of books. Inside, the place is full of bookshelves which are in turn filled with books or a variety of scrolls. There's also a small table with a singular chair, currently occupied by a middle-aged human with long black hair, writing in a book as if transcribing from the scroll. He also wears a signet ring that for those from Waterdeep instantly recognise as a symbol of the Order of Magists and Protectors Guild. A guild in Waterdeep that the citizens who have arcane talents commonly find themselves aligned to for the many benefits it gives them, at the cost of assisting the city when an arcanist consultant is needed on a particular issue. The watch quite often calls upon the Order's help in crimes that involve the use of magic.
Another man, maybe in his late 60's, greying long hair and a long beard is also walking around the shop, adding new scrolls into the piles already there, and reordering books with a wave of his hand. He acknowledges your entry, and he has an air of authority in the room, suggesting that he is the proprietor of the establishment, but he doesn't say a word to you as you begin looking around. You can't shake the feeling that while you are in here you are being watched.
(OOC: That should cover everything you asked for - Tyrus - if there is anything else you want, let me know via PM or posting here and I can let you know where to get them)
[OOC: DM, I have made my purchases and updated my character sheet with regard to costs and where the actual item is located, some of it he won't be taking with him (e.g., the 2 person tent)]
The following is my list of purchases (I already had the Tinkers toolkit, it just wasn't on my person. I chose money for my starting equipment and purchased it then.)
Waterdeep Purchases:
Replacement clothes 5 sp Chainmail shirt 50 gp Bag of ball bearings 1 gp Healer's Kit 5 gp Potion of healing 50 gp 4 Signal whistles 4 cp 4 Days rations 2 gp 1 Flask of oil 3 sp
Let me know if there's anything in the above list I can't get in the places you described.
Tyrus is happy to do maintenance on Griffdar's sword making sure it is both sharpened and well oiled to protect the metal. He also agrees with Briga that starting in the morning after some sleep makes sense. Floon is either already dead or is considered too valuable to kill without further provocation. In either case, 8 hours of sleep isn't going to make a difference.
He will also leave 10 golden dragons with Durnan as advance payment for stabling his mule. He will be expecting to get change when/if he returns, but if the money runs out Durnan can keep the mule and all of Tyrus's gear that has been left in the stable. (See Character notes and allies for details.)]
In response to Briga's comment about wanting bards to sing of her, Tyrus says, "Well lassie, I'm being no singer, but I would be expecting the important thing about becoming well known is staying alive so that people can get to hear of you... And in my experience, that means being smarter, not stronger."

Tyrus Mountson: Lvl 3 Dwarvish Bard; Waterdeep Campaign (Dragon Heist) Nanoc the Younger: Semi-retired Lvl 2 Rogue / Level 2 Barbarian Human; The Knuckle, Mror Holds, Ebberon. The Honourable Jaden Fellan: Level 3 Human Eldritch Knight; Band of Sunswall
AKA: Phillip Berrie: writer, editor and academic thrillseeker—a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
If there is time, Tyrus would also like to using his proficiency with his Tinker's tools and his experience and knowledge as both a Bard and an Artisan in the Guild of Armourers, Locksmiths and Finesmiths to modify the four signal whistles he bought so that they each have a distinctive and different whistle (he wants to be able to tell them apart).
[OOC: If allowed, here are the following Tinker Tool proficiency rolls (presuming this would be a Dexterity roll with proficiency): 17, 12, 20, 15 ]
Considering the above rolls, he'll be happy if they at least make different noises of some sort and please let me know if any of them are broken and no longer work. If this is the case, then he might try to get new whistles if there is enough time.
The cloth can be bought from the Market in the Castle ward, there is a stall there selling all ranges of different colours of cloth, clothes and accessories for outfits. A female high elf runs the stall and looks you up and down. "Looking for a new outfit my dear? Looks like yours has seen some... use..." she says, with a hint of disapproval in her tone. You can see she also sells cloth suitable for your needs.
The chainmail shirt will probably be best in Stanimir's Metalworks to purchase. He would be the best one to approach for that.
The bag of ball bearings, signal whistles, and rations are all available at Theobold's Adventuring Supplies.
The Healer's kit is available in Saria's apothecary with the potions. The flask of oil your looking for is also available there.
Once you've done your shopping and returned to the Yawning Portal. Volo is still there awaiting news and for a brief moment gets excited when the four of you enter the tavern again. The excitement fades when you Floon doesn't follow you in, but surprise when Renaer enters the tavern not long after you. The two greet each other like old friends, "If it isn't the ol' writer and over exaggerating Volothamp. How are you?" he quickly asks as they begin catching up. Renaer looks to the group of you as he walks past and whispers to you briefly "I'll handle his questions and give him an update, you four get some rest - especially you," he says, directing the last part of his statement to Griffdar. "And thanks again, I owe you my life, literally. If there's ever anything I can do for you, let me know - I have some friends in high places," he concludes before walking over to a table with Volo, where they go into discussion and catching up.
Tyrus takes up his tinker's kit before going to rest and pulls out the four signal whistles that he purchased earlier in the day. The first two whistles result exactly as he wants, they create two unique pitches. The third whistle he works on is a bit more finicky. The whistle's pitch is set too high for human ears but would make a good dog whistle. When he tests it, he doesn't hear anything at first, but then some stray dogs outside down below start barking. "Shut up, Biggins!" you hear a passerby say, as he taps the dog on the nose and continues walking, and he accidentally made a dog whistle instead of what he was intending.
As he picks the final whistle up, the night starts to catch up for Tyrus, but he feels like he can just get one more in before turning in for the night. Unfortunately, due to his slowly tiring body, Tyrus finds it hard to focus on the last whistle and ends up splitting it in two on the floor, rendering it useless for any future use.
It was at this point Tyrus realised the time, and globes of light are floating past the windows of the Yawning Portal in the direction of the city of the dead. Those from Waterdeep are all too familiar with this phenomenon as it happens every day. The driftglobes that float around the city into the evening, when the hour gets late, all congregate to the city of the dead - the graveyard of the city.
Based on that event, Tyrus can tell that the shops will be shut at this time, and if he wants to purchase anything more he will have to wait until the next day.
(OOC: Assuming everyone has everything they want and have nothing they want to talk to the shopkeeps about, I'll move things forward to the following day)
After resting up at the Yawning Portal, the group is refreshed and ready to venture into the sewers of Waterdeep.
You return to where you found Renear on Candle Lane, and from the street level exit, about fifty feet away is a side alley that has a sewer access point at the end of it about twenty foot into the alley. If the Kenku were going to flee, you could probably guess this would have been their escape route.
The city watch doesn't patrol the sewers, which are firmly in the hands of the Xanathar Guild and the Zhentarim, depending on which part of the city you're in.
The Dock Ward's sewers are firmly in the grip of the Xanathar Guild, and as you go down into the sewers, there is only one way to go. Going down the path for about thirty feet, you arrive at a junction going left and right - the left-hand side is marked with a yellow circle with ten equidistant radiating spokes coming out of it, similar to the tattoos you saw on the thugs that started the bar brawl the previous day, and the mark on the corpses that weren't marked with flying snakes.
Presuming that Tyrus gets the chance to buy two more whistles on the way to the Dock Ward sewers, he hands out a whistle to each of the other members of the party before they go down into the sewers (If not, he will give the two working whistles to Briga and Arlon). He's not sure that Griffdar can even use a whistle with his dragonborn snout, but it's worth trying.
"For emergencies only," he says as he passes them out. "I tried to make it so they sound different as well, so we'll know who's using the whistle... That might be important."
[OOC: It's cool about the third one being a dog whistle. Tyrus will tuck that one into his component pouch as being special.]
Then, before entering the sewers proper, he takes out his hooded lantern and lights it. He then sets it so that it will use as little oil as possible (i.e., the oil will last as long as possible; I have also deleted one flask of oil from my equipment list, assuming it is now in the lantern) and so that only a small amount of light is coming out of it; even dwarves need some light.
His normal disposition of equipment will be hooded lantern in his left hand (or placed on the ground) and his loaded crossbow in his right hand.
He will preferably go towards the rear of the party, unless he is called upon to do otherwise, and only then if it is for something the other obviously can't do.
Don't want to go into shopping detail, but he does tell the snooty high elf in the clothing store that he's having to replace some clothes that got covered in blood just so he can see her reaction. ;-)
[OOC: And, now that he has a healing kit, he at least has some bandages he can use instead of his clothes.]

AKA: Phillip Berrie: writer, editor and academic thrillseeker—a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
The high elf woman responds "well, is getting covered in blood a common occurrence for you? If so, I recommend this Maroon shirt, or this black cloak - good at making such... marks harder to see," she says, with a smile. "You dwarven types like your underground so much, so the black makes you naturally harder to spot in darker places - a bonus if you ask me. You adventuring types always covered in blood, grime or some other dirt," she says, almost to herself. "So, is it a new outfit your looking for?" She asks. Having your conversation, you get what you came for.
The next day, you head down into the sewers, Tyrus lighting up the dark, unlit sewers that go throughout the city of Waterdeep. The place itself is like a labyrinth and easy to get lost in if you aren't familiar with where you're going.
Travelling for about an hour in the underground tunnels, you come across a three-way intersection where a ladder leads up into a stone shaft capped by a circular metal cover. One of the familiar chalk symbols you've been spending your time down here following is marked on a wall nearby, and floating near the symbol is a spherical, grapefruit-sized creature with a bulging central eye and four stumpy eyestalks, guarding the passage you are being led down by the symbols.
To the party: Do we have a party order for walking down the sewer tunnels? My preference would be for Tyrus to be towards the rear so that he can watch behind with his darkvision, while someone else can lead using his hooded lantern, if they don't have their own light source. Also, Tyrus will be subtly marking their route with the wax from one of his candles (using it like a piece of chalk) to leave a harder to see, but hopefully waterproof, trail through the maze of sewer tunnels. He will do this to supplement Griffdar's chalking, if that was his plan.
To the DM: Has the creature seen us? How far away from us is it?

Yes the chalk was for marking up the sewer walls. Griff will mark his initials gg onto the walls Ashe sees fit.
Marching order: Griff is near the front I’m sure Briga is either in step with him or not far behind. He has his shield out with his newly found longsword. He still favors the bigger blade but after yesterday’s assault he’s opted to use his shield today.)

Tyrus: For your purchases:

[OOC:

(Ooc: when I have a bit more time I’ll make mention of what I bought and update my sheet.

[OOC: The creature hasn't seen you yet and is sixty feet away, therefore only those with darkvision have noticed it at this point]
“I almost didn’t make it. Thanks to my friends here. Praise The Platinum Dragon I met such good folk. Anyway, I don’t want to be making it a habit they havin’ to carry around my carcass. So, I’m thinking two potions of healing if ya got them would do me just fine for now.”
Assuming the metalworking dwarf is where I can pick up some manacles. “Oi good work on this sword. I might have to put in an order with you when I have more time. I’m looking to pick up three sets of manacles if you have them.”
“Chalk.” He grunts after a long day of shopping. (Ooc I don’t know how far a piece of chalk will get me but I’ll have Griff estimate it and then double it. He wants to make sure they have enough without it being comical or a nuisance to carry.)
Total gp 106 + chalk?
(No need to rp any of this extensively or at all tbh)
