Ophirinn takes third watch. As the night grows old, he looks down and notices a small beetle attempting to climb over his boot; after a while, it gives up and instead goes around the boot. He's not quite sure why he thinks so, but he gets the feeling that the beetle is extremely annoyed with him.
Omnia keeps a close watch; at one point, she sees lights moving in the distance in the direction of the cave where they fought the goblins; but the lights do not come anywhere near close to the camp or appear to notice the now dim campfire.
You all wake up in the morning, having completed your long rest (HP, spells, abilities and half your hit dice are restored).
You spend a short time packing up the camp, and are finished just after dawn. The day promises to be warm and sunny; there are only a few white clouds in the sky.
Once Everyone completed their long rest Brom since he was first to take watch should be last to wake up and he prepared for the up coming mission with a soldier's efficiency "are we all set to head out?" He asked the rest of the team
"Yes let's go! Shall we make our way to the mouth of the cave? I think we should hit them fast and hard... although I will be surprised if Gundren and Sildar are still alive. Maybe we go to the cave entrance and use the same order of entry as we were in the path in the bush? I also have an idea...."
If we end up going to the cave entrance, Nate will explain to the others that he will change into a Spider (like a little regular sized one) and crawl on the ceiling at the entrance and move in and see what we might be getting into so we can be better prepared. So the spider will crawl on the ceiling as far into the cave and back as you will allow Steve and see what I discover and tell the others what I saw so we are prepared.
The party heads back to the cave mouth. It's clear that there has been activity; the corpses of the two goblins you killed are gone. However, there doesn't appear to be anyone around on watch.
The cave mouth beckons; as you draw close, you see a tunnel heading into the hillside. On your left is a shallow stream, on the right a path with fresh tracks. Nate transforms into a spider, and SpiderNate heads in.
Nate, you follow the tunnel for less than a minute; it continues forwards, but up ahead you see an opening on the right. As you draw closer, you hear noises, a kind of low growl, perhaps of a dog. If you want to move closer, give me a stealth check and a perception check.
Nate was hoping he could get farther without any real effort being in spider form but realizing the potential danger that he hears ahead, he will return to the party at the mouth of the cave and tell them about the noises along with the growls after changing back into Nate human form. He felt they should probably have a plan before he goes and blows their cover.
“Guys there is Definitely something mean in there... any ideas as to how we should proceed?”
"Draw it out maybe? Make it come to us and attack it before it knows what's going on?" Brom suggested the simple plan "need a way to get it's attention "
Ophirinn wakes up and prepares himself for the days trials, before following the group to the entrance of the cave.
"I believe the best course of action would be to all head in and tackle the problems as they occur, because if there is any chance our patrons are alive then we will only make their odds worst by alerting the goblins to our presence" Ophirinn suggests vigorously
"I love that idea. Worst case we could all get into position and just start yelling..."
If that is what the party agrees to, Nate will stand up against the opening of the cave mouth with his back against the wall to get a jump on them from behind if we do end up trying to get their attention and draw them out.
First: Brom Second: Idalie Third: Ophirinn Fourth: Nate Fifth: Omnia
You head into the cave, following the narrow path next to the little stream.
The tunnel takes you a short way forward, and the light from the cave mouth is still decent. Brom in the lead is still able to see well, but you get the sense that you will struggle with the darkness as you get further into the cave, lacking darkvision as you do.
You approach the opening in the right wall that Nate mentioned. (You did not mention that you would try to be stealthy, so I'm assume you're not...)
Brom, you are standing just before the opening; you haven't put your head round yet, so you can't quite see what's there. You heard the growling as you approached, and it has now turned into barking and snarling. You hear a voice speak a language you don't know but guess is the goblin language, coming through the opening, and there is a clattering sound as several metallic objects fall to the floor.
Ophirinn wakes for the third shift, and prepares for his duties of sentry.
