(Assuming this is the following day, or later that evening, since some of us went home for a rest after being in the sewers all night.)
Soar asks Volo how he got the deed to Trollskull Manor, who had it before he had it, who might be interested in it now, and anything else he knows about it.
"If we're getting this in compensation for rescuing Floon, you should tell us everything. I'm curious not just about possibly ghosts, but also if there are likely to be other more mortal inhabitants or prospective tenants we'll be dealing with. There has to be a reason why you aren't there yourself, right?"
"I AM IGNIS!" Ignis shouts at the top of his lungs. "Are we going to fight ghosts? I've never seen a ghost before. Are they flammable? If so, can I burn them?" Ignis asks Volo.
Soar sits back on two legs of her chair with a pint in one hand, waiting for Volo's response. As the shouts and the hubbub mount, she adopts a fixed smile in between sips of ale.
As the party is talking amongst them selves, The distinct sound of what appears to be bagpipes can be heard cutting through the idle chatter of the tavern. The noise continues to increase in volume as whoever's playing the instrument approaches the tavern. After about a minute or two of this, The music reaches its peak volume as the man playing the instrument kicks open the door to the tavern.
(It seems we have several new players, some of whom I was expecting, others who are a pleasant surprise; welcome all!)
Volo smiles at Soar's questions. "Yes, of course. The story of how I got the deed isn't particularly interesting, it came up on the auction block, I outbid the only other bidder and ended up with the property; about it's prior owners, well, it's quite a story. It was once a fine mansion owned by Ulkoria Stonemarrow of the Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors, who sold it to a family of shield dwarves, who then fell on hard times and sold it to a woman who made it into an orphanage. Turned out to be a hag who was cooking and eating the children, if I recall. Well, the estate passed through several more hands in the years that followed, the last owner was a man named Lif who turned the place into a tavern, and quite a successful one for many years before his passing. Since then the place has been unoccupied, supposed haunts aside."
“Welcome newcomers” Alton says, eyeing each of them. “This tavern is quite a lively place!”
Alton spends some of the day at the inn, ducking out briefly when there is a lull in the conversation to go buy a deck of playing cards, and shop around for trinkets but not buy anything. If there is a longer lull, he will go gather some personal effects from the temple of Mystra in castle ward and then return. He travels on foot by main streets during the day, avoiding the feet of horses and horselike beings. He neither flies nor swims on these expeditions.
During any downtime, he will travel to the College of New Olamn and inquire about a possible trainer for the Sylvan language.
((Assume he is around the party for any encounters, and that he is ready to go within fairly short notice to the next step of the adventure))
"Hag? Eating children? Surely that's not true, Volo. So you bought this place, and have never been inside? Not once? If you were to actually take it over, what would you do to prepare? Do you have stories about haunted houses? Who might know more about the ghosts?"
Soar agrees with Alton that the Yawning Portal is a very lively place. "In fact, last time I was here, I was drinking with some friends, and go up to go to the loo. When I came back to my table, I'd missed a knock-down, drag-out fight with a troll and some flying things that knocked over my drink, and sitting at my table was Volo, who told me about poor Floon. You never know what can happen. Maybe a haunted bar will be calmer."
"As for all you new folks looking for work and adventure, I'm very happy to meet you all, but Volo's giving the deed over to those of us who rescued Floon. Is anyone good at carpentry? We might have a brewer, but first we'll need to clear the place out or make peace with any ghosts. Then probably clean it out, then rebuild anything broken, and talk to people about getting the tavern operational. Do we have anyone who can do things like that? If so, then we can probably deal you into the deed. Otherwise, Volo, I'm not sure it's worth what you say it is, as fun as all of this sounds to me!"
Soar is ready to head out when people get back around noon.
As the man responsible for the music enters the building, He becomes more and more visible to the Tavern's patrons. Revealing a short, scaley figure; wearing a Kilt as well as a plaid vest atop a white undershirt, And a tartan tam. The Draconic man is also armed with large longsword slug across his back in a scabbard. Upon entering the Tavern the man walks around; continuing to play is bagpipes to entertain the taver's commuters. Whilst he is doing so he holds up two fingers in the air at Durnan, signaling his drink order.
(OOC we're getting pretty martial-heavy, from what I can tell, so for folks joining, maybe that's helpful! But to be honest, it's still not easily finding a way to keep track of who's in the party.)
(Before we continue on, multiple players have mentioned that they find it hard to know who is now / still playing, so I'd like to do a little census if that's okay. If you could, post your character's name, race, class and subclass if you have one, and we will travel to the tavern tomorrow.)
Volo thinks. "Well, I have seen the house from the outside, and it looks like it might use a few repairs. New roof, fresh coat of plaster perhaps. You'll have to see in what shape it is in on the inside, I suppose."
On hearing Soar talk about amateur carpentry, "I should note that any repairs should be done by members of the appropriate guilds, if you don't want trouble; Waterdeep is a city of guilds, you can't get around it if you don't want trouble."
Durnan doesn't seem phased by a bagpipe-wielding kobold, he's seen it all; he sends two gin and tonics to the diminutive draconic.
Ignis walks into backing into the Yawning Portal, looking gloomy. “Hi Dwarf!” “What’s your name?” He asks upon seeing the new group member.
"Hello. I am Arvian Brewbeard. What is your name?" Arvian says all with a friendly smile on his face.
