Gwenant, seeing the rats clawing their way onto the ledge, reaches for the heavy maul on her back. She advances with a battle cry and swings at the nearest rat, aiming to slam the oversized vermin off of the ledge.
Attack: 21 Damage: 11
Advance towards rat D2 and attack, if she can't reach her target, she'll hold the attack until either rat comes in range.

"Aaaarrrggghhh DAMN YOU CRITTER" Zak yells in anger after he feels the Giant Rat bite him.
If it's his turn, Zak will take off his Greatsword from his back and try and stab and then skewer the rat holding it up on the sword and then launching it down the ravine after it's been skewered.
You can hear a few scurries around in the rubble where the rats where thrown, but nothing coming at you right now. You think it’s not uncommon to have rat colonies in this kind of place.. they are probably scattered all over looking for things to nibble on.
(PS: my initiative rolls haven’t been so good, but my attack rolls are killing it haha, sorry for the rat bites, I hope your 18 AC will eventually work out Gwenant)
Gwenant winces as she looks at the rat bite on her leg. Right through the boot, damnit, a brand new boot! she calls out, "Yeah, it's all clear, at least for now. Zak, Spotty, are you two alright?"
"Yeah I'm alright....." says Zak to Gwenant... very clearly trying to hide the fact that the rat actually bit him pretty good and it hurts a lot more than he is trying to show.
Martin climbed down and then stooped to examine the bites his companions acquired. "I can channel the power of Lathander to heal your wounds and even fix you boot if you wish." He says feeling a bit awkward with this group of seemingly capable fighters.

Zak watches as Martin inspects their bites. He's trying to hide how much it stings, but as time goes on it actually starts to feel a touch better.
"Thanks Martin but I am ok for now. I don't know much about magic but I do remember the Orc mages where I'm from always had to take a good rest to recover their spells and I'd hate to see you waste a spell on this little bite."
"Agreed - let's go."Zak then says to Spotty as he moves to the top of the stairs with sword drawn ready to head down. He waits for Renny and Hef to come down the rope as well. If no one else wants to do anything on this ledge, Zak will then lead down the stairs slowly (beside Hef if there's room) and peek around to get a sense if there are other hostiles near.
As you follow the stairs down into darkness, a fortress emerges. The subterranean citadel, though impressive, seems long forgotten, if the lightless windows, cracked crenellations, and leaning towers are any indication. All is quiet, though a cold breeze blows up from below, bringing with it the scent of dust and a faint trace of rot.
Here is a rough image to give you an idea of what you are in:
Hef descends the rope to join the others, admiring the swift work they made of the rats. "This... This is amazing. I wonder what they did to anger the gods enough to earn this..." As they walk he works his way forward to walk beside Zak, hoping to fend off anything that may come after the softer targets in the middle.
The more dark it gets as they head down, the more at home Zak feels. He then remains silent as they continue down and get closer to the wondrous underground citadel.
"This little bite hurts, but it won't slow me down. Best hold oonto that kind of power, Martin. I've a feeling we'll need it soon..."
Gwenant has a look of wonder on her face as the Citadel comes into view. She isn't always able to understand what drives explorers to venture into every dark and creepy hole they can find, but maybe this time she gets it. The faint hint of mildew and rot makes her wrinkle her nose as she listens to her fellows. "Call it a hunch, but I'm not sure the gods ever had anything to do with this place... and as for what happened here, I think we can all agree that it smells like everyone died." Gwenant forges on, her maul stowed on her her back and shield at the ready, hoping to stop the acquisition of any futher wounds.
The narrow stairs empty into a small courtyard, apparently the top of what was once a crenellated battlement. The buried citadel has sunk so far into the earth that the battlement is now level with the surrounding floor. That floor stretches away to the north and south, composed of a layer of treacherous, crumbled masonry, which reaches to an unknown depth. To the west looms the surviving structure of what must be the Sunless Citadel. A tower stands on the west side of the courtyard. The tower has a simple door giving into the courtyard.
Your party is not yet in the courtyard, but still coming down in a single file down the stairs.
Renny:
You remember only that there was a reference to a dragon cult that built and lived in the Citadel a very long time ago. But nothing else is coming back to you from that vague reference you one read.
Map (sorry on my phone, will do better from computer later):
Renny smiles at Hef after smoking the one rat in a single shot, "My aim has improved."

Spotty tries to look cool by rappelling down, but he instead ends up falling flat on his back.
(The rats act before Gwenant so I’ll take your attack on the one attacking you)
The rat from E6 lashes to Gwenant and tries to bite at her leg: Attack: 18 Damage: 4
Gwenant then swings it into darkness, crushing the skull in the same time.
The other rat jumps at Zak and bites at him: Attack: 22 Damage: 4
The only rat left is the one on Zak.

Renny looks down, "All clear?"
She will make her way down as well when it looks like no more rats are coming.

"Man, this place is creepy" says Spotty. "I love it."

As they walk he works his way forward to walk beside Zak, hoping to fend off anything that may come after the softer targets in the middle.

Renny picks up the stone she put the light on when they pass it and keeps it with her this time so it can light everything around her.
"I remember references to this place when I was reading about the area but I'm sure I've read something more about it."
