Now in a more comfortable range, Genren methodically sets his sights and shoots another arrow, planting his feet, he takes a deep breath and lets loose...
Genren's well-placed arrow literally disintegrates the giant shark skeleton, sending bones flying everywhere! Genren, Tallow and Ronkur take 21 piercing damage, or half on a successful DC15 Dex save.
Combat over! Congrats on clearing out the Salt cave at Leilon Point! Please write up any follow-on actions in the town, then you can return to Leilon for a well-deserved rest! (Although you will see several potential quests on the "Job Board" in town...more to follow on that!)
Ronkur comes speeding through the tunnels of the cave system, leaning into the speed, feeling the walls race by on either side, eager to get into the fray where he belongs. Just as he clears the entrance to the skele-shark's den, the creature explodes, peppering him with bone shards as sharp as daggers. The flying debris obliterates his defensive shield and finds half a dozen weak points in the armor, tiny silvers working their way through the fine joint and lodging in the gnomes skin.
He immediately drops to the ground, the disks sliding up to return to their home on his back and looks about the room 'Oi, what did you lot get into here? What in the seven hells was that thing!'
As he speaks, his armor begins repairing itself and treating his wounds, the process so automated he hardly gives it a thought. (Cure wounds 3rd level 9 and defensive field)
As the armor tends to his wounds, the gnome pulls out an intricate-looking tool from his gauntlet, flipping through several lenses as he begins to methodically check over the chamber for any signs of what or how this creature was animated - and if there were any other surprises in store. Investigation 20 + flash of genius
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tallow will use Tides of Chaos to roll the dex save with advantage 17
Starting at 1st level, you can manipulate the forces of chance and chaos to gain advantage on one attack roll, ability check, or saving throw. Once you do so, you must finish a long rest before you can use this feature again.
Any time before you regain the use of this feature, the DM can have you roll on the Wild Magic Surge table immediately after you cast a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher. You then regain the use of this feature.
Ronkur looks for signs of how the creature was animated - signs that Genren can tell him were runes scribed around the bones. They are gone now, of course...their magic activated in the animation. Based on the toughness of the sahuagin and their obvious magical prowess, it is no wonder they decimated this remote fishing village. The council must hear your report!
"What a mess we've stumbled on yet again my friends? Keeps us on our toes hehe" he says as he clenches his shoulder from wounds he suffered. "I have a feeling this is just the beginning of these sea folk and their incursions.."
(There aren't any bones from the shark that I can take are there? Would love to take some to the crafters in Leilon)
Eventually, the party returns to Leilon and reports to the Council. As promised, you are given 750 gp to help defray the costs of the Guild and for your troubles.
At the Guild, your steward tells you that there are three new opportunities:
“Phandalin had some trouble with a cult of Talos in a lighthouse temple called the Tower of Storms. Now a strange boat or dead creature seems to be beached near the tower. Investigate this strange occurrence, kill or rout any cultists that might be there, then return to the town council to collect a reward of six potions of greater healing.”
“Go north along the coast and track the bronze dragon Lhammaruntosz, the Claws of the Coast, to her lair. This location looks like a bronze dragon carved into the side of a cliff overlooking the sea. Ask for a chance to worship at the shrine to Bahamut so you may receive visions of the threats facing Leilon. Report the threats you divine to the town council to collect a reward of 1,000 gp.”
“A band of brigands calling themselves the Chimera Crew has been attacking merchants on the road, stealing supplies we need to rebuild Leilon. The merchants claim that the bandits operate out of Iniarv’s Tower in the Mere of Dead Men. Kill the bandits or drive them from the area, then return to the town council to collect a reward of 1,000 gp.”
Genren goes to the crafters of the towns and brings the bones he collected. "Hey there, any shot I can fashion a weapon or two out of these bones? Got em from a reanimated giant shark and I figure this can be a worthwhile material."
Genren then looks at the jobs that are presented... "Those damn cultists need to be eliminated for good, but a dragon... that's a tasty challenge if I do say so myself. What do you all think?"
Tallow looks over the job board, "I don't think we're ready to fight a dragon but if we are just supposed to go there and pray, that doesn't sound bad. I can't believe anyone would pay us a 1000 just to pray though. There's got to be something more to it. I like jumping into the unknown. On the other hand, killing bandits for 1000 gp is pretty straight forward."
The local woodworker and blacksmith examine the shark teeth and bone fragments and offer up a few options. They can use the bone fragments to make several spears or daggers with wooden shafts/handles. The teeth are better materials - from these they can make a morningstar with shark teeth embedded in the ball, or a flail with teeth in each strand, or even a sword or an axe!
Genren discusses his intentions with the crafting thinking of what might be useful. “Would it be possible to make a shorter sword like mine and still have enough materials for a dagger or two? I use swift and agile weapons so the more options the better.”
"Oh, sure sure. We can use the smaller teeth for the sword, and the two big teeth to make a couple of daggers. Give us a week. 3 gold for each dagger, and 15 gold for the shortsword - that'll be 21 gold all together. Deal?"
(After a week and a half - 'cause estimates are never right...you will receive a sharktooth shortsword that does 1d6+2 slashing damage, and two sharktooth daggers that deal 1d4+1 piercing damage (all also adds your Str or Dex bonus)
Ronkur looks over the job board and nods his head as Tallow speaks 'Bandits. Simple, straightforward work that needs to be done. Would love to meet a Dragon to divine the future, but bandits are a threat to the here and now.'

Sure, you can find some teeth and a few other relatively intact bones =)

(I’ll collect a few of varying lengths especially if any have natural sharpness or seem like they can be fashioned into blades and tools etc.)

“Deal!” He takes the gold out and hands it to the crafter.
