Messalina sees Li'riya struggling and looking slow with her weapon. Usually it's the young men that I have to give a confidence boost to, but no matter. Messalina feints, making a lunge with her rapier that even a creature as simple as a kobold could dodge, but in doing so she will help Li'riya, stepping right in front of the ranger, who is ready with her scimitar. Messalina shoots a surreptitious wink to the elf, letting her know that she can do this.
Li'riya takes the opening, slashing with her blade.
Attack: 21 Damage: 5
Attack: 9 Damage: 2
Li'riya looks at Messalina. "Thank you," she says softly. "I'm sorry, I...don't particularly like using this." She sheathes the scimitar. "Let's get these people out of here."
As Mellaline makes her comment about combat and especially melee combat Edward, for the first time since you've met him, makes a bull snorting noise. He then says something in a language that nobody else understands but from his tone it obviously wasn't anything nice.
With the back door clear of enemies, you quickly enter the temple and find the frightened town folk. They recognize you as not kobolds, cultists and raiders, and they eagerly follow you out that back door and back to the keep. By the time 4am rolls around, the raiders stop their attack and something strange happens.
From the darkness, a creature strides into the dim light of the dying fires around the keep. Although it is shaped roughly like a human, it is at least seven feet tall, its skin is covered in blue scales, its fingers bear wicked claws, and its face has the muzzle and reptilian eyes of a dragon. The creature stops about eighty yards from the main gate of the keep and scans the walls. A line of kobolds fans out behind it. With their spears, they prod four human prisoners into the dim light. You can make out a woman, a teenage boy in a blood-soaked tunic, and two children. Then the half-dragon creature hails the keep.
“Defenders of Greenest! This has been a successful night, and I am feeling generous. Do you see these four pitiful, useless prisoners? We have no need for them, so I will trade them back to you. Send out your best warrior to fight me, and you can have these four in exchange.”
One of the defenders in the keep, Sergeant Markguth, recognizes the prisoners as his sister and her children, and he is ready to rush out into battle with the half-dragon. Escobert the Red and a few other defenders restrain him while Nighthill approaches the characters.
“My friends, you’ve demonstrated your prowess all through this frightful night. I realize this is an awful burden to ask you to bear, but any of you has a better chance to defeat that horror than my militia have.”
Tell me guys what you want to do and i'll set up the scene further.
Any happiness that Messalina might feel about the attack ending is crushed by the appearance of the half-dragon and his challenge. Damn it. Will this night never end? She feels her body aching as it begins to call out for rest. Well I'm not going out there, not like I wouldn't make an ass out myself even if I was well-rested. "Edward, you're stronger than all of us and skilled with a sword, you wanna go out there and put this bastard down?"

Astrid straightens out the purse on her shoulder, and with a harrumph, marches out to the front of the group. Staring down the dragon man with a wicked stare, she just stands there unafraid, oblivious to the blood that is streaming down her side. In a display of defiance, she shakes her head at the beast, turns, and walks back to stand next to Edward.
He agrees to these terms for the combat: The three children will be set loose immediately, but his kobolds will continue to stand guard over the woman, and they will kill her if anyone interferes in the fight — for example, if archers in the keep let fly at him. Regardless of who wins, the woman will be released when the fight is over; and the victor will be the last one standing.
Li'irya tenses slightly at the sight of the half-dragon, but for Edward's sake, she focuses herself as best she can. "Watch the claws," she says quietly. "And he may have a breath weapon-some do, some don't. If you disarm him, don't think it means the fight is over. It isn't until he's unconscious or...dead."
Camilla looked at the half-dragon, then to Edward, then back at the half-dragon. He looked dangerous, but knew about how their philosophies included keeping their word. If Edward won or lost, the half-dragon would indeed let the woman go. It was more a question of whether Camilla would be able to save the minotaur. Her mind thought quickly, trying to remember minotaur physiology.
Li'riya looks at Nighthill. "Will you be able to provide healing should Edward fall?" she asks him in her typically soft voice, perhaps the first time she's spoken to the man directly.
The challenge accepted Edward then proceeds to move forward and taking out his sword begins to think of some gladiator tricks. Deciding on an old one he drags his sword a little in the dirt before attempting to swipe across the challengers face. The dirt hopefully getting in his eyes even if Edward misses.

Nighthill will provide healing, yes. Camilla sighs in relief.
Edward looks to Messalina as he says, “Melee combat. Of course you wouldn’t do it.” Obviously still very salty about her earlier comment.
He then walks out of the keep and boldly states, “The Bull of Baldur’s Gate will fight you.”
As you approach, Langdedrosa lets the children go. The kobolds guard the woman heavily, ready to kill her should there be any tricks.
"Come." Langdedrosa says. "Let us see if you are a challenge." He draws out a huge longsword, and readies for combat.
