Kilxus just smiles as Pardo announces his captaincy. "I'll take first watch with Priest," he says with a grin. "Personally I do not mind if you stay with us tonight, I wouldn't like to be left out in the cold if someone could help me."
He sits down on the ground and fiddles with his ring. Kilxus is enjoying the evening, the sounds of bugs in the air. He didn't think that he would want to be out on the road, he had never been on an adventure such as this and he honestly wasn't sure if this would be for him. Now he realized he enjoyed it, though he also knew that the peacefulness would only last so long, eventually there would be violence.
Will the talks switching to who would be doing the first watch. "Well, I guess I should go find food for us... Oh wait, I just remembered." Loraviel casts Goodberry and offers one of the fruit to to the old man. "Here Mr. Tibard. You must be tired and hungry. Please have some goodberry."

Surge is amused as Pardo declares himself Captain, even if only half heartedly. "Let him stay, it's the right thing to do and it's a generous offer in return."
. . .
If given the chance to do so safely and privately, perhaps while fetching water or doing some other task, Surge whispers to Pardo "keep your friends close, and potentially enemies...well, you know." "He'll be nearby either way now that it's dark, so I'd rather have eyes on him, ideally more than two of them."
A short bit later Surge says casually "so, two per watch once again tonight? I'm happy to join the first while the fire's still strong."
Surge folds his arms and gives Pardo a large, sincere smile. "Great minds, eh, Captain?"
Pardo recognized that the Priest was right. Helping one in need was the only honorable choice and Tibar had given no indication of being anything other than what he claimed to be.
So Pardo joined the rest of the Company in welcoming Tibar and extending whatever meager hospitality the party could afford. But he nevertheless kept a sharp eye on the old man until both had retired.

Later, while on watch, Pardo again tried to keep a sharp eye and a keen mind.
[ooc] I guess I should just describe any skill check I want to do in a discrete post, and then write the narrative later. A four, isn't keeping a close eye on anyone.
Kilxus tries to keep his attention on the surroundings, but keeps getting distracted by shadows that seem to writhe into shapes and spectors. He shakes his head and ignores his inner demons, and says to Surge, "I've never met a Genasi before, what is it like to live under the sea?"
What the heck, let's say that Pardo gave a little bagpipe performance for his guest and companions before retiring. Forgive the non-linear storytelling.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Loraviel enjoyed Pardo's performance very much. She had never seen such instrument being played before. She gladly takes the second watch with Ebb. (Perception: 6)

Surge is amused as Pardo declares himself Captain, even if only half heartedly. "Let him stay, it's the right thing to do and it's a generous offer in return." The genasi jumps down off of the wagon where he had been fetching his cask of water and sticks out a slightly wet hand. "They call me Priest."
Surge privately tries to size the man up and measure the truth in his words. Insight: 25

Upon request to camp with us. "Well, hello there good sir!! But of cour...." Loraviel is interrupted by Pardo. She is utterly confused by his speech. Things about gods that she never heard of. She looks at Pardo to try to understand if he is jesting or if he truly means what he is saying. (Perception on Pardo: 16)
(OCC: I would like to know who adjudicates that check :-)
Pardo should adjudicate and the right check should be Insight.

Lovariel senses that Pardo is not jesting, but rather just a bit of a blowhard.
After the goodberries meal (please track that there are 4 left and that they will lose their magical effects around sunset), everyone feels deeply satisfied. Loraviel is glad she didn't have to hunt again, and her morale is greatly boosted after Tibard praises her resourcefulness.
Not having to spend time hunting nor cooking, this is prime time to get to know more about each other. Pardo has a very special moment bringing smiles to everyone's faces, even the old man can't keep but laugh and clap at the halflings performance.
Throughout the night Tibard spoke to all of you, talking about Neverwinter, his daughter, the High Road. Seemingly, unimportant stuff. Eventually, he starts asking you where you are headed, what's up with the supplies you are escorting, what you think of Phandalin, and if you have ever heard of the Rockseer brothers. Regardless of your responses, he always seems to know things you haven't mentioned before, which seems weird. He spent a lot of time talking to the genasi, wanting to know more about his race, culture, and his lantern.
Tibard accompanies The Priest and Pardo during the first watch and sleeps soundly throughout the second watch. Taking advantage of Kilxus lack of attention during the third and final watch, the old man leaves the company. When the rest of the group finally wake up, you ask a very confused Kilxus for the whereabouts of Tibard. Shamefully, the tiefling explains that he didn't see the man leaving.
Packing up, you resume your march quickly, only taking a few moments to feed the oxen. No need to have breakfast as the magical effects of Loraviel's berries still linger on. A couple hours into the third day of the trip to Phandalin, you make it to the Triboar trail. As some of you know, this territory can be really dangerous. Bandits and outlaws are known to lurk along the trail.
A few hours on the Triboar Trail, and you spot two dead horses sprawled about fifty feet ahead of you, blocking the path. Each has several black-feathered arrows sticking out of it. The woods press close to the trail here, with a steep embankment and dense thickets on either side.

Pardo holds up his left hand, fingers splayed in the universal sign to stop. "Whooaaaa. This looks like a very good spot for an ambush. I'm going to get a little bit ahead and try to clear the right side."s
Pardo wields his shield and steps as far to the right as he can go without breaching the hedges or embankment. He checks barrier intently for trouble, while slowly closing half the length to the horses.
Loraviel was about to run to the downed horses when she sees Pardo hold up his hand, wield his shield, and starts to walk to the right side of the road. She quickly pulls the reins and stops the wagon.
"By the Goddess..." She says in a low voice and starts to scan ahead to for any sign of danger. (Perception: 12)
