Soar, as you are searching through the area, you notice a patch of the cave with a few large stalagmites and boulders with a similar colouring to the eggs, and sure enough you find a third large dragon egg somewhat hidden in their midst.
Nate looks around for Jalt to make sure he can't hear his next close minded comments.
"Guys... we have to destroy these eggs! I mean didn't a dragon just take out Greenest? Isn't this why we are here? Let's destroy them, take a little rest, maybe grab some bits of shell so we have proof, and then head back to town."
Nate will start to kick one of the eggs, just like you'd kick a tire, trying to see how hard it is, if he could kick through it, etc. He's not GOING to kick through it, he's just testing it. Like a tire.
As you didn't make any stealth attempt, and you kicked the egg just after saying "We have to destroy these eggs!", I would say that everyone else either saw you do it or heard the crack and put two and two together.
Do the eggs seem like they were... grown/laid/manifested right there in the chamber? Like is there egg-like stuff around and underneath them, or magical evidence of some kind of ritual or process through which they were grown or summoned? Or... does it seem clear they were set here, carried from somewhere else?
Basically Soar is looking at the floor immediately around the egg and trying to see if it's just normal cave floor or if an egg has other evidence of being dragged, propped up, summoned, or... emitted from a creature.
Also how heavy do they seem? Soar will try to pick up one, maybe the one that Nate is not examining. She wants to see if it would be possible to carry them to Greenest.
When Nate kicks and cracks one, she says, "easy there friend, let's just wait a tick. I think our two options are destroying them now or trying to get one back to Greenest to have it examined. But judging by that crack, it doesn't look like they're up for any journey. So your instinct is probably correct - we can't leave them for whoever is still here, or might come back for them, so destroying them seems smart. But we don't know if something dangerous might come out of a cracked egg, do we? So let's take a rest right here, bind up those wounds, and read through these notes and books and see if we can get a better idea of what they're for, where they came from. Most likely we'll have to destroy them before we leave. I'll try to talk to Jalt before we do so - not after. He's earned that, hasn't he? I know you can help me out here."
She sits down in a sort of comfortable spot near the eggs and begins doling out books and notes and tries to take a short rest, helping others bind wounds and heal up. She doesn't immediately mention the third egg, though she plans to.
Soar, there's bits and pieces of stuff around, and you notice that the air here is a bit warmer and more humid than the rest of the cave. You guess maybe that has something to do with the eggs, but the eggs themselves are not giving off heat or moisture. More than that, you can't say.
Soar points out the humidity and asks the druids, "any idea if those eggs were brought here from somewhere else, or laid or created here in this place specifically?"
She's still looking through the notes and books during the short rest. About two minutes in her training kicks in and she says, "oh we should probably keep an eye out in case something heard all of that and post a lookout, shouldn't we?"She will volunteer, still with notes and books, if no one else can. She thanks Elspeth for getting the killing blow in on the drake, joking that she was about to become a snack. She'll grab the head of Cyanwrath and see if any of the scales or teeth or claws or anything might be useful from the drake.
If she can, she'll also sit down with Jalt a bit and ask him a bit more about what he knows. "Are you sure they're real, regular, normal dragon eggs? This seems like a bad lot, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're twisted and corrupted. Do you think we can move them safely? I think you'll agree we shouldn't leave them whole for the cult to use for whatever they had planned. Either we move them back to Greenest, or destroy them. I trust you in this, my friend. You're not biased, you're wise. Tell me what you think and I'll help you do it. Nate's ready to crack them, and we might do that accidentally if we bring them to Greenest. We just can't leave them here."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Elspeth shrugs a little after Jalt turns away. "I guess we'll try carrying them back to Greenest then. I hope they won't hatch soon. I'm not sure the Governor will thank us for bringing dragons into his town."She'll investigate the eggs as well after prompting from Soar.
Nature: 3
She'll offer to take on the job of the sentry, taking up her post in the upper section of the cave, back leaned against the wall as she watches the entrance to the chamber.
Soar, you understand little of the nature of the eggs, I'm afraid. You can't think of any use for the dead drake, but do take a single tooth as a momento, if you wish.
Elspeth, you have heard quite a lot about dragons, and black dragons in particular, for the eggs do reveal signs of being those of black dragons. They are the cruelest and most evil of the chromatic dragons, and while Jalt is technically correct that no creature is born evil, there are no tales of black dragons doing anything other than destroy and cause harm. However, there's nothing wrong or corrupted about them as such. You also very much doubt you have the means to move them safely, and though you could get aid from Greenest perhaps, the authorities there would probably want the eggs smashed, not studied.
You are all able to take a short rest, as Soar and Elspeth keep an eye out for danger. Though your rest is uninterrupted, you do hear the occasional noise and just get a general sense that there are still occupants in these caves, and still danger. You can make Perception check to try to get more.
(OOC: You can rest and recover hit points by spending hit die. But not spells of course - am I right in saying that Soar, Jalt and Nate have no spell slots remaining? And that Elspeth hasn't cast any spells because she's been using wild shape?)
You all take a short rest, and feel better for it.
When Soar asks the druids for help with the eggs, Nate was kind of in his head and not really listening. He was still stressing over cracking the egg and was hoping the others weren't upset. Ruminating. Nate does this a lot, and if there was an equivalent of a psychologist in the d&d world, Nate'd be the perfect patient.
He snaps out of it eventually. "Oh yeah guys I don't think we can carry them... as you saw they are super fragile. I can Mend them if we do break them... but I mean I can only fix so much and if we dropped one I wouldn't be able to fix that."
During rest, Nate won't take watch or try to learn more about the noises. The bite on his leg is too bad, he's too tired, and he will take the full time resting and meditating.
After rest, Nate suggests: "If we are taking these things back to Greenest, we can make spiderweb sleds for them. Then we can pull the eggs back and they should be quite safe in the webbing. That should work quite nicely. I do feel strong enough to perhaps change once more into a spider so let me know!"
"But I still think we should smash them now."
Nate's ready to get the hell out of this cave and back to Greenest for a proper sleep in a bed.
Soar, make a Perception check.

(LOL)
Nate, you kick the egg quite gently, and a small crack appears immediately. It's clear that these eggs are fragile.
Did anyone see?!
As you didn't make any stealth attempt, and you kicked the egg just after saying "We have to destroy these eggs!", I would say that everyone else either saw you do it or heard the crack and put two and two together.
Makes sense!

Nate listens to Soar's wisdom (again) and agrees with her (again). He has a habit of not thinking things through (as you might've guessed).
"You're right. Especially about the Jalt part. He's earned it. I am going to wait over here and rest until we decide what is next."
"Oh.... here." Mending Nate repairs the small crack he made in the egg. "Good as new."
Nate will then meditate and try and take a short rest as instructed by Soar.
Soar, make a Nature check.
The eggs are about 25 lbs each, and you could carry them out. They are fragile, though - it might be possible to transport them.
Nate, you are able to mend the small crack in the egg.
Are you all taking a short rest?
Soar will happily take the help of any of the druids in this nature check if possible! If not...

(correct about Nate and his spells!)
Nate rest hit die HP (1 die) - 8
(If Elspeth relates what she knows, Soar will also be in favor of destroying the eggs, once again after talking with Jalt.)
Does Soar learn anything else interesting from the notes and the books? Did we find out whose room that was? OOC I forgot...
Rest: 6
(Jalt out of spell slots, but regains breath weapon and channel divinity during short rest)
Hoard of the Dragon Queen - Jalt Rhogar - Dragonborn Cleric (9)
