Boar feels some life return to her, as she heals for 8 HP.
Peryton's CON save: 13
The nasty little bugs return, biting a little more this, and the bird moves a little to one side so it's above Edhelri's wagon and no longer visible from beneath it.
Soar is up. The peryton is flying above a wagon - it has a wooden roof, and you might be able to clamber up using your movement, but it would require an Athletics check. Or you have other options...
Boar tumbles into a roll as she gets strafed by the peryton's mate. Obviously the gambit to take out one to intimidate the other into fleeing didn't work.
She becomes suddenly aware that she risks acting like a adventurer and not a caravan guard if she stays up to try to duel the powerful beast in the open. Waving her hand at Leda to take cover under a wagon and protect Lasfelro, Boar launches one more javelin at the hovering peryton, before darting under a wagon, hopefully using the body of the other peryton as further cover.
The javelin pierces a leg, but the furious peryton barely reacts.
Rear group: Round Six
Sulesdeg and Bodoric Peryton B Leda Nate and Soar
Sulesdeg and Bodoric move into position tp get a clear line of sight on the bird, fire their crossbows, then duck down under a wagon following Soar and Nate's lead.
Attack: 15 Damage: 7 Attack: 21 Damage: 4
Both hit.
The only target still out in the open is Leda, so the peryton swoops in, next to the wagon, pecking and tearing:
Attack: 10 Damage: 11 Attack: 19 Damage: 9
The warrior grits her teeth as she takes some nasty hits, but stays determined. The bird flies past her, and is once again out of reach, so she takes aim with her heavy crossbow:
Attack: 12 Damage: 3
But she misses, and now she too slips under the caravan, breathing heavily but eyes bright with the thrill of battle. Not long now, eh? I wonder if they're good eating.
Nate and Soar are up. You are both beneath the wagon, along with all your allies. The peryton is turning in the air but it's not clear where it will attack next.
Nate has forgotten about his character facade until this moment, and so he makes a comment in his southern accent: "Well well, isn't this quite the cafuffle we gots ourselves into here eh?"
Nate again will peek out from underneath the caravan and once he sees the flying bird-beast he will cast Infestation, really hoping for the thousands of creepy microscopic insects to continue to nip away at the thing, taking it off its game. CON 14 save, 2 damage, direction = 3
Also says to Leda: "Leda, let me know if youza need some takin care of with that wound!"
Although Nate has no intention of using his healing magic on anyone but his friends.
Boar looks at the heavy wounds Leda's taken and sighs. She tries to poke her head out from underneath the wagon a bit, pulling her sword again. She waves it at the circling peryton, in an effort to attract its attention to the decapitator. Her goal is to get it to land next to her, her sword readied for an attack. She's giving up enough cover (not sure how far off the ground the wagons are) to be able to attack normally, so this gambit might not work. But here's a readied attack roll:
Elspeth isn't able to repress a shriek of pain as the Peryton's claws rake across her arm. She'll move closer to Peryton 1, moving her moonbeam so it hits Peryton 1.
Are the other guards paying attention to her at all? If she can discreetly cast a spell, she'll try casting healing word (8) as a bonus action on herself but considering how closely Nate was watched after his display of magic she wouldn't heal herself if anyone can see.
Nate is chipping away at the bird's strength, and again it seems distressed, moving and twisting as it flaps in the air.
Leda shakes her head grimly, but doesn't reply to his request.
Soar readies her attack.
Rear group: Round Seven
Sulesdeg and Bodoric Peryton B Leda Nate and Soar
Sulesdeg and Bodoric peek out from beneath the wagon, see the peryton above, and fire:
Attack: 13 Damage: 4 Attack: 6 Damage: 3
Only Sulesdeg's both grazes the creature.
The peryton flaps up in the air, so it's now forty feet up. It gives a loud, angry squawk, though it seems to be tiring, and you're not sure what target it has in mind.
Leda shoots at it; Attack: 13 Damage: 4
She hits as its attention is distracted by the infestation of angry flies.
Nate and Soar are up. The peryton is forty feet up in the air, and everyone else is under the wagon. Soar, as the peryton never came in range, your readied action lapses. However, you now have your full next turn.
Elspeth, you speak quietly, and as Healing Word has no somatic component, you think you got away with it. Your moonbeam moves and hovers above peryton 1, ready to hurt it in a moment.
Die, you piece of... Eldkin is tired and angry, as she attacks the grounded peryton 1:
Attack: 12 Damage: 5 Attack: 18 Damage: 3
A miss and a hit, but for so little damage; a glancing blow at best. She swears in dwarvish, and not quietly.
Gethyn, now able to leave his brother, draws his crossbow, and the three guards shoot at peryton 1. Surely this time it will be enough to finish it off:
Gethyn's bolt clips a wing, and as it turns to glare at its attacker, Cove's bolt goes through an eye. There's a strangled sound, and finally, beaten by blow after blow, peryton 1 falls, dead. Perhaps surprisingly, there's no cheer from the guards; they instead look at peryton 2, wary and ready for retribution.
Jalt is up. Peryton 2 is airborne and nearby. Peryton 1 is dead.
The shining ball of light bursts as it hits the bird's wing, leaving burns and torn feathers floating down through the air. It seems to want to kill Jalt badly; it swoops and attacks him:
Attack: 12 Damage: 5 Attack: 19 Damage: 10
The beak was where you expected, and you push it aside with your shield. You go to block the talons with your war pick, and then realise you dropped it in order to cast your spell; it lies at your feet, and as you look down, the bird slams into you, almost knocking you over and gouging deep into your shoulders. You think it would carry you away to eat if it could.
Front Group - Round Five
Elspeth Eldkin Albit (unconscious but stable), Gethyn, Cove and Harriman Jalt Peryton 2
Elspeth is up. Peryton 1 is dead, Peryton 2 is in the air, but badly wounded. You have advantage from Guiding Bolt if you attack it.
Boar steps out and sheathes her sword, pulling out another javelin. She prepares to hurl it at the peryton if it swoops within 30 feet, or stab it with it should it get to melee range.
"This will take forever if it just flies around," she says in a laconic drawl.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nate says to Leda "Ok I've had about enough of this here varmint." Then yells to the others Time to put this bird on ice, y'all!!"
Nate will crawl out from under the wagon. He will stand up, swirl his hands to create the shard of ice, and then will launch it directly up at the flying beast.
**** please let this work Nate thinks to himself, and while he's doing this he almost decides to bail out and go back under the wagon...... but he does it anyway.
Casting Ice Knife level 2 at the flying beast 40ft up in the air.
Attack: 9 Damage: 7
Hit or miss, DEX 14 save required, shard explosion damage if needed: 13
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Peryton's DEX save: 11
The knife itself doesn't seem to do much harm, but the cold - little icicles form upon the creature's wings, and it struggles to stay in flight.
Rear group: Round Eight
Sulesdeg and Bodoric Peryton B Leda Nate and Soar
Sensing the peryton is on its last wings, Sulesdeg and Bodoric, perhaps a little rashly, emerge from shelter and take aim with their crossbows:
Attack: 9 Damage: 6 Attack: 20 Damage: 2
Seeing that their efforts aren't quite enough, they scuttle back under the wagon.
The peryton drops to the ground next to Boar, frantically trying to bludgeon her to death with beak and claw:
Attack: 13 Damage: 10 Attack: 9 Damage: 10
To no avail. It shows no sign of giving up though, beak and talons flashing and whirling. Boar plunges her javelin towards it but cannot find her mark.
Leda steps up, eyes fierce, flanking Boar:
Attack: 20 Damage: 3 Attack: 5 Damage: 8
Her mace swings, catching the sunlight; you see the shadow on the ground of the man, head crushed, slump down and hit the dirt. Leda swings again, just to make sure, then kicks the creature for effect. She turns and grins at Boar: Done and done.
You are out of combat, but we'll pause there until the front group is also complete... So Elspeth is up.
Elspeth, seeing the first Peryton downed, moves her moonbeam to encompass the second peryton once again. She'll move closer to Jalt too, shouting at the other guards to "Shoot the last one again, bring it down to the ground if you can.!
Boar walks over to Leda and offers her hand to shake, full-on forearm grasp. "Thought that would go worse. Nice hit. We're tied. One-one. Unless..." She gives a bare hint of a half grin and darts off toward the remaining peryton and readies a javelin (for when it's her turn).
Nate would've made eye contact with Soar to make sure she is alright and then sees her dart off for the last Peryton.
He would've then went over to Edhelri and said "Ma'am.... I think we are safe now. There's one more birdy up there but I'm thinking its a done for. You need any of my healing energies?"
(As the rear group fight lasted to round eight, the front group is still earlier in time. So it won't be possible - yet - for Boar and Nate to help out.)
Eldkin, Gethyn, Cove and Harriman all fire at the one remaining peryton:
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Peryton's WIS save: 19
The bell's tolling clang fades against the horrific screeching of the bird, and cannot get a hold of its mind.
Struggling to stay aloft, the creature flies up and away towards the hills; it's able to put on a terrific burst of speed, and is already almost sixty feet away before you can react.
Front Group - Round Six
Elspeth Eldkin Albit (unconscious but stable), Gethyn, Cove and Harriman Jalt Peryton 2 (60 feet away and fleeing)
Front group
Jalt's war pick swings, and hits, and smashes, but not enough, not quite enough.
Peryton 1, the wounded one, turns and vents its anger and frustration against Jalt:
Beak: Attack: 15 Damage: 4
Talons: Attack: 18 Damage: 6
Jalt takes his first blow of the battle, though his armour deflects much of the worst of it.
Peryton 2 seems almost to hiss as the moonbeam's radiant light hits it:
CON save: 13
(14 radiant damage, and it takes half so 7 damage, but it clearly takes the full 7 and doesn't resist it.)
The bird moves out of the spell's effect and now attacks Elspeth:
Beak: Attack: 7 Damage: 11
Talons: Attack: 21 Damage: 11
The beak misses, or seems to, but it was a feint; the talons scratch and tear at Elspeth's left side, slices her armour at points.
Front Group - Round Four
Elspeth
Eldkin
Albit (unconscious but stable), Gethyn, Cove and Harriman

Peryton 1 and 2
Elspeth is up. Peryton 1 is on the ground, close to death. Peryton 2 is airborne and nearby.
