Nate, the dwarf perks up when it's clear you're actually going to make a real purchase. Well, that's... great. Absolutely. Here. And that's 1 gold each for those regular daggers as well. Come back any time!
Soar, the dwarf potters over to the weapons racks, but pulls down a sword that was hanging on the wall. She brings it over to you. Some adventurers sold this a few months ago. Big dragonborn, friendly guy. She shows you a longsword. It's inscribed with the name “Talon,” and its hilt is worked in the shape of a bird of prey with outspread wings. It's a +1 longsword, weapon, +1 and costs 350 gold.
When you mention items that might help spellcasters, she says: Oh, we do have some magical scrolls. Let me think. There's one that makes things go to sleep. One that heals you in battle. One that casts magical missiles. I'm not sure - I can't really read them. Would you like to see them?
(I haven't kept detailed track of your money - you guys need to do that. I think you should all have around the same, except for Jalt who spent a lot on the armour and weapons back in Elturel. Soar seems to have a lot more - was that from selling something?)
"Thank you Ma'am!" Nate sells her his 5 regular daggers.
(It's not a problem, I usually keep good track of it, I just made an error when I was removing the gold. I thought it would somehow update each bucket if I removed a blanket 300gp. Instead of me manually removing some from each bucket. It didn't. Then I couldn't remember my originals. Anyhow... I am confident I have around 16 gp remaining now.)
I think the only thing I’ve added to Soar’s coin purse was the slightly higher weekly pay from Lasfelro and the additional money for being part of the strike force (did Nate forget to do that?). I’d subtracted the amount for the armor, and added the shares from the loot back in Greenest and the cultist camp etc. That’s about it from my memory. I’d have to go back and add up and subtract finding specific things in the thread - let me know if you want me to do that.
Assuming none of the other items I listed were available, Soar will thank the shop owner. “That sword could be interesting - I may be back for it if you are still trying to sell it later today. Any chance you’d offer a discount? Also would you like to purchase this suit of chain mail or this perfectly fine longsword?”
(She also asks, “do you have anything that isn’t a weapon that would help me in battle? And what about things that help us elude detection?” Is there anything specifically interesting that gives off a magical aura that hasn’t been mentioned thus far? She’s not as interested in a magical scroll unless they are less expensive than I am OOC thinking.)
In battle, it's really just the weapons and the armour, the dwarf replies to Soar, waving a hand around the room to indicate the shop's selection of those. For evading detection, well, one of our more popular items, made by a local enchanter, very good products, we have one left, they don't last long... as she's rambling she's also getting up on a stool to take a box down from one shelf. She opens it; it is large enough to hold more, but at the moment, contains only one pair of boots, clearly of elven design. These are very useful for helping you move silently. Available at the reasonable price of 350 gold.
(OOC: They are Boots of Elvenkind. They will give advantage on Stealth checks or turn a disadvantage into a straight roll, provided moving silently is the main aspect of stealth in that context. They would in almost all circumstances negate Soar or Jalt's armour-based disadvantage.)
Is Jalt with us? Soar will ask him if he's interested in the boots. I'm OOC and IC trying to decide between the sword and the boots. Leaning sword.
Also I have Mondath's halberd, a note about her armor, and a blue quartz in my inventory. They're the party's to do with as they please -- doubting there's use for them so maybe we sell them here?
Jalt is there but he’s not really the shopping type. When Soar asks him about the boots, he replies “When you get to be my size, you tend to learn to not be so stealthy. As we’ve learned sneaking around isn’t usually my cup of tea.” He looks to Nate who seems to be pleased with his haul. “And have you found what you’ve been looking for?”

Soar decides to go for the sword. She will try to persuade her to offer a discount knowing the sword will be in good hands - a doomguide. Certainly it feels good and right the sword will be in the hands of someone committing just and true acts? She’s more musing aloud to herself than making a direct ask.
Three hundred and fifty gold please, the dwarf says calmly, sticking to the asking price. Thank you for your patronage. She doesn't budge on the discount.
You complete your business in the magic shop, and head out into the city streets. It's coming upon midday, and there are plenty of street vendors who can sell you a lunch snack if you wish. Next stop is the nearby City of the Dead where Soar will visit her old comrades. After that, north to the Field Ward and the offices of the High Road Charter Company.
(Soar can sell the blue quartz for 10 gold pieces, and the halberd also for 10 gold.)
Waterdeep Interlude Part Three: The City of the Dead
The entrance to the City of the Dead is a large iron gate that seems always to be open; two guards of the City Watch stand there, but relaxed, chatting with people as they pass by. You walk through and into the largest graveyard you have ever seen - the largest in the Sword Coast in fact. Whatever it's like during the night, in the day this place is actually rather lovely - well-tended gravestones, lots of flowers and trees, areas with benches to rest and talk. And the space is well used, an escape from the bustle and noise of the rest of the city.
There are several large buildings, mostly on the edges of the graveyard, and one of these is the Temple of Kelemvor, so familiar to Soar.
Nate looks up to Jalt: "Well... I should've known better about the prices... but yeah, I did get this interesting dagger."
Nate excitedly shows Jalt the interestingly designed serpent-like blade.
As the party proceeds to the City of the Dead, Nate would remain mostly quiet, in his own head stressing a bit with anxiety about potentially having to meet/interact with Soar's comrades, although commenting for sure on the enormous graveyard. "Ahhh. City of the Dead. Makes sense now."
Soar walks in and takes a deep, calming breath. She smiles. "This is my favorite place in Waterdeep. Very peaceful. In the daytime. I just want to say hello to a few people and update my superiors of what's been going on in Faerun. They're a bit out of touch when it comes to things like this, but they'll want to know. You're all welcome to come, or feel free to relax out here, that copse over on that hill has some of the oldest trees in the city. Nate, and Elspeth, you'd love it."
She heads over to the Temple and sees if she recognizes anyone. She's looking for the armorer, her mentor, and any friends who might be around. She'll tell her mentor about the cult, the pillaging, and everything she's heard about Tiamat. She'll tell the armorer that she got an upgrade from Kaerus and invites them to inspect the work. Her friends she just wants to let know she's alive and actually doing fairly well, learning a lot, and communing well with Kelemvor.
Soar, one of the first people you see as you approach the temple is Grayla, one of the more elderly Clerics of Kelemvor, not a doomguide but a fixture of the temple and the City of the Dead. She's tended the gravestones and flowers for over two hundred years, and she smiles as you approach. Well, little one, I haven't seen you for a while. Have you been out travelling?
Nate, this is a rather strange place for you, a place filled with nature but also in the heart of a great city, and a place of the dead, though not the undead. How is Nate feeling here?
Jalt, have you any particular thoughts on Kelemvor, the patron of your travelling companion Soar, as you wander his grounds in Waterdeep?
"Grayla!" Soar blurts and trots over to her, arms wide, slowing down when she nears and going for a gentle embrace. "I... yes. I left, like everyone asked. How are you? How fares the Temple? I am sorry to say I won't be staying long. Pressing business, and I need to alert you all to a growing danger. Who's in today? Oh, and before I forget, these are my friends, Jalt, Nate, and Elspeth. They're on the same... task. Probably better to speak inside, even here."
Her training kicks in and her eyes flash with divine sense almost without thinking about it.
Soar, you sense the presence of no undead, fiends or celestials. However, you do sense, as you have sensed many times before, that the great doors leading into the temple, as well as the area surrounding them on both sides, are under a hallow spell.
All is well, child, with me and with Kelemvor's faithful. Grayla smiles and gives a small, formal bow to Jalt, Elspeth and Nate. Be welcome here. Most are out, but Deraray is here, should you wish to speak with her. You know Deraray as the senior paladin; though she arrived later during your stay, she oversaw the last five years of your training. You initially had a strained relationship with her as you were much closer to her predecessor before his death, but in time you developed a relationship of mutual respect, if not exactly warmth.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I think I'll wait out here if you don't mind, Soar. Will take you up on the trees though." He decides to wait outside and not go into the temple with Soar. He feels that's best.
Nate is kind of in a preoccupied haze as he takes in just how massive this graveyard is. He has never seen anything like this in his life, and while it was a bit disturbing to him at first, he feels at peace being here among the dead. Of course he is also taking in all of the beautiful nature, flowers, trees and wonders to himself if these grounds are kept by someone or if perhaps some type of magic is involved.
Nate would also look around to the other several large buildings surrounding this massive graveyard Investigation21 while Soar and the others (if they are also accompanying her) go in the temple to talk to her peeps.
Jalt has only heard of Kelemvor from Soar. As he and his clan are more versed in the elder gods of death. Jalt is aware of the natural cycle that life and death cohabitate on this plane of existence. He respects the concept of the doom guides and Soar’s faith and dedication. So he will only enter the temple if invited in.
