Soar, make a Persuasion check to get on Bog Luck's good side, and a Perception check with disadvantage (because your attention is mostly on the half-orc) to see what the cultists are doing.
OOC: I am not sure! I think he may have told Soar and Jalt earlier when he joined the game... I honestly can't remember. But she was :) With all of the bustling activity at the Roadhouse, Nate gets distracted and says to Soar "I will tell you all about it later on. We can share our upbringings."
Nate would follow Soar, just close enough to overhear her conversation with Bog, to get intel on how to rent a room here. Also like Soar, he'd be keeping an eye on the cultists, seeing what they are doing. He would chirp in "Greetings, Bog. I'm Nathaniel, and also looking for a room here. My weary travelling legs need rest. Ardred could also vouch for me, for all of us here (points to the others if they are around) if you need it."
Ha! says Bog Luck. A tour? Yeah, sure. He points to the building in the southeast. Warehouse. He points to the building at the southern end of the compound which appears not to have a second story. Stables. He points up to the storey above the warehouse. Kitchen. He waves his hand to the rooms in the north and west. Rooms. Tour done. He chuckles at his own wit. Rooms are six copper per room per night, each room has four beds. Pay me if you want one. He turns as a merchant comes up to pay him for the room, and he gets into a conversation with them about how cold the winter is expected to be. He ignores Nate, unless Nate either waits a while or interrupts the conversation.
Soar, you notice the cultists carrying their crates from their wagons into the warehouse, just the same as everybody else. Given how guarded they've always been about their wares and their secrets, you find this surprising.
Leda Widris nods to Soar. I had two nights in an inn in Waterdeep, and that was enough for me. I'll be at the camp if you need me. Don't get into too much trouble. At least not without me. She gives a friendly mock salute, and heads off as the sky is starting to turn orange in anticipation of sunset.
In addition to what Soar sees, from where you're standing, you get a better look at what's happening inside the warehouse, as merchants and their guards as well as cultists posting as merchants and guards, are dropping off their goods inside the large room. You notice a few things. Most of the goods are being stored in the single main room of the warehouse but there is another door inside leading to a smaller room to the north. Some merchants, and one of the cultists, speak to Bog Luck and say that they have valuable goods, and they are instructed to drop their crates and barrels in a particular place in the warehouse. After finishing his conversations with Soar and the merchants, Bog Luck enters the warehouse and takes a key from his belt and unlocks the door. He calls a few of the labourers over to help him carry the 'valuables' into this smaller room. This includes all of the cultists' crates. When they are loaded inside, he locks the door. You don't get a chance to enter the warehouse or see inside the smaller room.
Nub reports what he saw to his companions and says "I think we should stay close by and keep an eye on any comings and goings."
[Can I guesstimate the thickness of the outside wall of the smaller room?] [I think the picture was uploaded while I was posting. Walls definitely look more than 1 ft of stone, so no detecting of magic.]
Soar laughs along with the "tour" and thanks Bog for the information. "I'd like a room..."and then looks around and sees Jalt next to her, Nate coming up from behind, and Nub peering at the warehouse. "Four beds? You four want to split a room?" She gives them a 'let's not make this complicated' look. She hands Bog 8 copper.
Can we hear anything about the cultists getting rooms? Or talking about waiting for the next convoy? Or staying in the camp?
Soar has a friendly moment with Leda, "thank you again for being an excellent companion, and I hope to see you soon!" She returns the salute.
Back with Nub, Nate, and Jalt, Soar listens to what Nub saw, nodding. She lowers her voice again in response. "Did the door seem to have a gap small enough for a spider to get in? Might be the only chance we have to find out more when it's not watched. Also, Nub, maybe you want to lend some of your culinary magic to the kitchen there. Which is right over the room in question. Maybe there's a hole in the floor. But we're not just tracking stuff. People too. I assume they'll want to stay close to the crates. We may have six days to cool our heels. Jalt, feel like doing a loop around the roadhouse into the swamp to see what's out there? I can't imagine our friends would go in there, but just in case they try, it'd be good to have a sense of what it is."
(Did Soar get anything out of her divine sense on the road to Carnath, near the mere? Is the swamp right up against the roadhouse itself or is there dry land immediately around it?)
Nub agrees to Soar's suggestion, saying, "I think the kitchen idea is a good one, but I don't know if you have picked up, but I am not great at speaking to people. I tend to freeze up and say the wrong thing."
He pulls out the pot of dough that has been proving and asks "Can you offer my services to the orc you made friends with over there?" [Missing both that Bog is half-orc and that he was pretty much mocking Soar.]
Soar is happy to bring Nub up to Bog. "Bog, meet Nub. He traveled up with us and when I was lucky enough to get one of his meals, I haven't eaten so well on the road in a long time. Perhaps your cook could use some help here? He doesn't like to talk very much, so I thought I'd do you both a favor and introduce you."
Jalt remains silent as they make their way around the roadhouse. He's listening to everything the others have to say and is taking it all in. When they mention the the room where the cultists have placed their valuables, Jalt takes note. He nods to Soar when she mentions taking a lap around the roadhouse and into the swamps. Him being inside might bring a lot of unwanted attention to the whole mission.

Soar, you don't sense anything that close within the Mere. The Roadhouse is on the opposite side of the High Road from the Mere. The Mere comes right up to the road, then on the other side the Roadhouse is maybe fifty feet back from the road. So the swamp doesn't come directly up to the walls, no.
Bog Luck takes the eight copper, pockets it, and points to the room. Choose any of them. They don't lock. Meals are in the kitchen. They're extra.
He takes a look at Nub. We don't get many tortles through here, he says rather obviously. Go talk to Pete if you want to help. He might pay you, might not.
When Bog ignores Nate, he's not surprised as that's usually how things go. He almost interrupts the conversation. Almost takes out his new dagger.
maybe my serpent dagger would get his attention. if it was in his eye.
Nate does nothing and walks away, waiting for Soar and Nub to finish talking to Bog.
Nate has no problems with sharing a room with the others.
When Nub returns with the information he's collected, and Soar mentions the wildshaping, Nate reluctantly agrees. "I think you're right... I don't see any other way unless there is in fact a hole or something in the kitchen. Nub, did you say you think a spider could fit through the door where the scum has put all of their stolen goods and god knows what else? I could change in our room... maybe late in the night when most are sleeping... then creep in and take a peek. This would give Nub a chance to see if we have any options in the kitchen first. If it goes bad though, shit will hit the fan quick so we'll have to be ready for anything."
"Also, do you think that half-orc is in cahoots with the cultists?"
[DM question: Did it look like a spider could fit under the door or through any crack/keyhole in the door?]
Nub says to Nate "You can turn into a spider? That is very impressive. Can you do it as often as you please? I might be able to get you into the warehouse, close to the locked room when I'm going up to the kitchen, if you cling onto my shell under my robe."
He then asks Soar "Are you happy to come with me to meet Pete in the kitchen as well? Again, sorry, I'm just not good with talking, especially if it involves not telling the truth."
(Nub didn't really get a clear view of that particular door, as he wasn't actually standing in the warehouse. Are you going to walk in to the warehouse and look at the door?)
"Yeah... it's something I learned how to do in the woods... where I grew up. Watching the creatures. Learning about them. I can do it a few times but it takes a lot out of me. That's a great idea about clinging to your shell... might be safer than going in the 'front door'"
Soar agrees to accompany Nub to the kitchen, though she suggests getting their room first, ideally one with a window with a good view of the courtyard and the door to the warehouse.
(What are the cultists doing and have we been able to hear anything they are saying?)
