"ROARRRRRR!!!"
The panther tries to get the attention of all of the patrol, and then...
The panther will dart backwards the 50 feet, putting him 80 feet away. The panther's image then flickers, and the robed figure Nate magically appears, with his head lowered and his arms crossed. (bonus action to morph back into human form).
Nate then calls out an odd, deep, unrecognizable one word chant a few times and points to the sky directly above the patrol. A dark storm cloud drops from the sky and hovers over them. He then points towards the drakes (who I assume are quite close together?) and snaps his fingers which produce a chain bolt of lightning from the cloud, blasting the drake(s) and hopefully the troll who are within 5ft.
It's not currently stormy; the chill wind is just normal for this location.
My reading of Call Lightning is that the storm must be centred directly above you when you cast it. So if you run to eighty feet away and then cast it, it won't be close enough to hit the troll patrol.
At the start of your turn, you are thirty feet from them. You could shift back and cast it immediately, and it would definitely cover them. You could get closer if you wish, it's up to you.
Shoot, I am sorry. OK, am I able to move 30 feet away which would put me 60 feet away from the targets and then cast the spell above myself which should still give me the proper range in order to send the lightning bolt?

Yes, that just works.
Nate moves away, shifts into human form, and the storm starts above. Storm clouds gather with obvious magical haste, and then lightning strikes down. With a five-foot radius, you can catch two drakes and the troll:
All three take damage, though it's hard to judge how badly this hurts them.
The troll then sends all three drakes running, not towards Nate and the storm, but towards the party. They dash, and end up forty feet from them.
Nub and Jalt, you are not aware of any enemies specifically, but you have just seen a powerful magical storm appear over the trees nearby, and you can hear the crashing of several creatures headed straight towards you; you can just about see them enough to know they are draconic in some form, though you can't see them well. They are forty feet away through the trees.
Jalt unsheathes his war pick and stands in place. Raising his shield in the air, Instill sia thurirli mrith dout verscasts casting Bless on Soar and Nub.

Nub moves 30 ft to the right and holds Ray of Frost to cast at the first foe that he sees that is within 60 ft, Attack: 12 Damage: 8. If it hits the creature's speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of my next turn.
Also if appropriate, a perception check to try and spot the creatures through the trees early:

Oops, with Bless the attack roll is +2 so 14 (thanks Jalt).
Jalt, you cast your spell. As it allows you to bless up to three people, and the only other person you can see is yourself, will you cast it on yourself too?
Nub, you reposition yourself near a fallen tree not far from you. You can't see anything yet (that kind of perception check would require a full action) but you have your spell at the ready, peering into the forest; you see leaves move and you hear the thundering footsteps. It won't be long before you have a clear target.
Nate, you see the troll move away too, dashing towards the rest of the party and seemingly ignoring you. All the enemies are now far beyond the reach of your storm spell.
Soar is up. Soar, you also can hear and feel the enemies approaching but cannot see any clearly yet.

Gah, missed that it was my turn, apologies!!
Soar darts to the east, 5 squares, looping around the pillar, out in the open trying to wait for a good shot once whatever was coming came through the trees. As she walks, she loosens a javelin from her pack, and readies it to throw.
Readied javelin Attack: 11 Damage: 7 plus 4 from bless. Once she looses at whatever it is, she'll draw her sword.
He then will dash towards the drakes. Where is the troll? How far away is the edge of the cloud from the closest bad guy? Also, Nate is trying to get close to the action but not let any of them see him. Yet.
Nate, you are able to approach to within thirty feet of the troll and drakes; the area of effect of your spell is perhaps forty feet back through the forest. None of the enemies notice you; they are focused on the rest of the party, or so it seems.
A drake bursts from the trees running straight for Jalt. Readied attacks from both Nub and Soar trigger, and both the javelin and the cold magic slam into it.
Two more drakes race towards Soar and Nub, ready to attack on their next turn.
Nub and Jalt are up. The three drakes are clearly visible; you do not see the troll though you know there is something big approaching.

Nub moves 2 squares/10ft to the left (not leaving combat range).
As his action he summons his fiery ball of death in the square above Drake 2 (carefully avoiding trees and setting the forest on fire). As his bonus action Nub slams the fire hazard flaming sphere into Drake 2, who needs to make a DEX14 save or take 6 fire damage. Any creature that ends its turn within 5 feet of the sphere must also make a DEX14 save or take 7 fire damage.

A slightly squelchy thud as the war pick hits Drake 1, the first time at least. Second time more of a knocking sound as the weapon seems to bounce off the creatures tough scaly hide.
Nub, your fiery ball appears behind the drake and crashes into it: DEX save 18 it is engulfed by the flames; you think for a moment you might have brought it down, but somehow it remains on its feet, howling in agony.
Now the troll crashes out into the scene of the battle. Strangers are not welcome. Food for me and Trepsin. Yum!
Wary of the flames of Nub's spell, they dash around, seemingly aiming for Soar as first choice to eat.
Soar is up. You are blessed, more than usual, except for the adjacent troll.

Soar whirls to track the troll as it arrives, Talon unsheathed and already slashing toward the hungry beast. "I love eating! Never been food before though so I'll pass. I'm Soar. Who's Trepsin?"
She casts divine favor as a bonus action, calling on Kelemvor to strengthen her blows in what would likely be a tough fight. Her sword then flashes in freezing mountain air twice darting past the troll's strong arms to seek some vulnerable spot in its defenses.
Attack: 20 Damage: 14 plus 3 from divine favor Extra Attack: 9 Damage: 12 plus 1 from divine favor
Soar, your first attack find the troll's upper arm, and the divine power of Kelemvor surges through you into the troll, flaring visibly as it does so. That's 17 points of damage total.
Your second attack misses.
Round Three Nate Drakes 1, 2 and 3 Nub and Jalt Troll Soar

60 ft radius on that cloud should do the trick
Yes, that just works.

Soar
Nate is up. Your storm hovers over the forest, and you are about a hundred feet from the action - you can't see much now, through the trees.

And invoking War Priest will swing again.... Attack: 11 Damage: 3
