No. Let the elf head do what it will. If it goes back underwater, give it another 15 min and then rejoin the others with the intent of entering the lair.

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
(I think it may be a little later than that, but not much. Yes, let's go in.)
Tangle nods, and says quietly, "We should go in. I'll lead again, and be ready to take on the guards if they hear you, but there will be too many for me to silence them by myself." She assumes they won't hear her. "I saw at least four elves, they may not all have been warriors."

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tangle, now invisible, slips into the pool and swims back the way she did the first time, moving as silently and carefully as she can to the point right from which she could previously see the guards, and sees what she can see this time.

Back through the pool - I guess Tangle takes a moment to dry herself as much as she can, rather than dripping down the tunnel.
Back along, towards the place where you saw the guards and... the guards are different, though also elves, and still there. These ones look more alert, but you remain hidden from their gaze for now. As before, you hear the gentle dripping of something from up ahead beyond your darkvision's range.
Bazavur follows you through the pool, but waits at the poolside, drying off.

Tangle turns to signal to Bazavur how many guards there, remembers that she's invisible, and curses in her head. Then she begins moving down the hall as quietly as she can, on the left hand side (as she goes, so the "up" side on the map). If she were not invisible, it would not matter how quiet she is, they would not help but see her, but invisible, she hopes to slip between the guards. Still, she will close the distance to see more before attempting this daring move.
She will move to the first alcove, then, if nothing but more floor and wall is revealed, she will move on up to the second (much closer to the northernmost elf).
Because it's a game, and fun, here's another Stealth roll (with adv for boots/invisi): 26

Tangle approaches; more of the cave open up to her eyes. She sees a pool of water, with a current suggesting it is fed by a stream and a small island in the centre. She stares at it, creeping closer, trying to see how far it extends or where the running water is coming from.
Snap! Something - a twig she thinks - breaks beneath her feet.
Four elf heads turn, not exactly at her, but definitely in her direction.

As the elves speak, like a whisper (fingers crossed), she pads across the hallway to the other side, diagonally SW, in case they noted the direction of the sound.
Stealth (again, DC is probably much higher now, dice don't fail me!): 25

Tangle, you move away, more quietly this time. The guards are on alert, but they pass you by and go over to where the sound came from. The movement of the water helps disguise your steps; the cave is far from silent, and you feel confident you've slipped away.
You hide in your alcove, while the elves kick the ground and peek around corners; several times looking directly at you - or through you. They seem to give up and return to their posts.

Fortune favors the bold, Tangle thinks, and not having heard from Jalt, moves swiftly to follow the departing elf, skirting the other guards towards the north as quietly as she can.

There's a tunnel in the north wall; the elf disappears down it, and Tangle follows. As she enters, she hears the voice of the elf up ahead, speaking in Elvish.
"There was a sound. Like something was in the chamber, but we couldn't see anything. You told us to report anything."
You get a little closer, and see the person the elf is speaking to. It's a half-elf, wearing armour and clothing that Tangle has seen before, on the Cultists of the Dragon. She sees another couple of figures, similarly garbed, in a room up ahead and to the left.
"Noted", the half elf responds. "Now get back to your post."
The elf turns around and heads back down the tunnel, directly towards Tangle.

Tangle will hide close enough to the pool to be able to observe it clearly.

Soar stays out of the pool!
So, you all - if I understand this correctly - wait around and hide while Tangle stakes out the pool, waiting to see if someone comes or goes.
Tangle, you get a little closer than you were overnight, but you can still observe clearly. Perhaps forty or fifty feet away.
You wait. An hour passes. A second hour passes. A third hour passes.
Bazavur grumbles quietly, though he's back at the camp and only Jalt hears him.
An fourth hour passes.
An elf head pops up, and looks around. Doesn't seem to see you.
Will you do anything?
No. Let the elf head do what it will. If it goes back underwater, give it another 15 min and then rejoin the others with the intent of entering the lair.

The head finishes its survey of the area, without seeming to spot Tangle or anything else amiss, and pops back down.
Tangle rejoins the group.
"So should we try going inside again?" Soar says. (Is it about the time of day that the dragon came to the meeting last night?)
