Fae could feel Edgar grow restless on her head. He squirmed until he was perched up front, causing her hood to stand taller on her head with his beak peeking out. "Ouu shiny." Edgar would chirp as she walked away from the shrine. "No Edgar. That shiny is not for you."
'Forgive my intrusion, but I saw you out here alone as I was completing my patrol of the grounds and though I would wait to ensure your safety.'
Even as he says this, Zeke would have his head on a swivel, checking to make sure no one was approaching them or had also been waiting on Fae's appearance. He'd be particularly alert to anything or anyone spilling out of the rambunctious establishment to the East.
Fae would give him a polite bow, "I appreciate your company." and look up at him. "My apologies if I've kept you long."
"Run into anything this evening?" She'd turn to look back to one of the side streets where she saw the two men come from earlier, then scan their path to the right of the inn, as if she was replaying the encounter in her mind. "I'm not sure if it's worth mentioning... but I did see two men. One with a red bandana and the other with a red shirt. They snickered on their way by, but carried on. Nothing else."

Spell ingredients! In the morning we could ask around at the temple. Maybe they have some, or know who would? ...why's Arvel listing spell ingredients? Maybe we should hold off until we know what's going on.
Tarja gives Arvel a little bit of a shake, to see if that would wake him up.
I suspect that cardamom isn't something that's gonna be found in the hills/forests around here. I wonder if I know where in does come from in Forgotten Realms? Nature 14
Zeke would smile shyly at Fae's apology. 'Waiting is no trouble at all, it is a necessary part of what I do.' He'd frown at the description of the men in red 'Snickering, eh? Well now I'm glad I waited - Not that you couldn't handle a few ruffians, it's just I would feel bad if you had to do it alone.'
Glancing off towards the sound of the revelry, 'Which way did they head?"
Fae would smile up at him, feeling comfort in Zeke’s concern. “They came from there and continued on to the right of the inn.” She would gesture to the side street they came from, then towards the right of the inn. “We should start heading back anyways.” Fae would link her arm with Zeke’s and give his forearm a pat. “Shall we?”
Tarja thinks cardamon usually comes from more arid parts of the world.
Toblen stands holding a fistful of sage and asks nervously "what do I do with it?"
Trilena comes over and tries to understand what's going on before dashing off and out the front door. Zeke and Fae see her hustle past them and knock on the door near the shrine to Tymora. A moment later she emerges from the house with a brass bowl and dashes back into the inn. Everyone in the inn witnesses Trilena kneel in front of the large stone fireplace and scoop out a healthy portion of coals and deposit them in the brass bowl. Returning the those gathered around Arvel she asks "will this do?" "Careful, it's hot."
Poor Arvel! Trying to balance letting you all help him with keeping it moving. Any creative ideas from those looking to help are welcome with regard to the cardamon. Since he specified an herb/spice that may be harder to find rather than just saying 'herbs', I figured it would be fun to problem solve a bit.
Some suggestions:
Elra already pointed out in character that it's everything for Find Familiar. DC 17 Arcana check to find a suitable replacement for cardamon. Advantage on the check for anyone who knows the spell and/or is proficient in the Arcana skill. I'm sure others who know the spell have used different herbs, etc.
DC 17 Nature check for Tarja to know a potential replacement via wild plants in and around town just based on her knowledge of plants in general.

Elra kneels down next to Avrel, "Hey, listen to me Avrel. You're going to be okay. I know what you need, I just need you to calm down. Take a deep breath and I'll get what you need. I promise it's going to be alright," she takes all the coins out of his hand and holds onto them until Avrel seems to be acting himself again, then takes the sage from Toblen and starts binding it up to better use it for the spell. After she finishes that she takes the bowl and the sage and puts them to the side and turns to her own book, trying to find a short cut for Cardamon.
Elra normally uses her holy symbol and divine power for her spells, but she's also a bit of an academic and quickly adapts her thinking to what she has read of alchemy, arcana, and herbalist. She's pretty sure an alternate combination of herbs will do. After naming several, Trilena claims to have two and runs off for them. A third Tarja actually has handy in her herbalism kit. The last is the pollen and seeds of a bulrush or cattail pod, preferably crushed or ground up...Elra thinks, at least.
Tarja knows that there's a small swampy area at the bottom of the hill just west of the town green where she can find some.

Zeke is grateful for Fae's touch. Most people, even fellow Tieflings, are reluctant to touch him. His size, his freakish deformities and his unusual coloring have all more than earned his 'Thrice Cursed' moniker and are normally more than enough to have others keep their distance.
He turns over the problem of the red-shirted ruffians and the noisy establishment in an otherwise quiet town and remembers the mutterings of the Innkeepers as he carried Arvel to bed. Seems like this town might not be as sleepy as he originally thought.
Just then, he sees the Innkeeper's wife burst out of the front door, scurry across the street and then quickly re-enter the Inn.
'This doesn't look good.......'
He drops Fae's arm, and draws his blade, shaking his shield down and into position, cloak falling back and wings flaring out. What had been a slow almost lazy stroll back to the Inn stops dead in its tracks as he extends his senses out around him, seeking any sense of danger or what could have caused the commotion.
Thoroughly unnecessary Perception check, but Zeke only has one-speed :) 14
Zeke doesn't pick up on any new threats beyond a bit of commotion within the inn and what just sounds like drunken hijinks down the road he and Fae were already interested in.
The scent of the alternate mixture of herbs hits Arvel'snose and his demeanor changes to one of determination. He scoops up the offered mixture and begins sprinkling them into the brazier.
He chants <Tule minun palvelijani luokseni> as the smell of the burning herbs fills the air.
Fae's brows would furrow as she sees the inn keeper's wife hurry between the establishments. Sensing Trilena's urgency, as she didn't even knowledge Fae or Zeke, she was beginning to feel like they should follow her inside the inn. "Zeke, I think it's inside." She'd look to him with concern before heading into the inn.
Tarja helps Elra and Arvel prepare some herbs, volunteering her herbalism kit and grabbing some cattails from the nearby swamp, tracking muddy footprints into the inn and looking around apologetically. She's still not quite sure what's come over Arvel or why he needs Find Familiar ingredients immediately, so she steps back and lets Elra help him with the casting as needed.
Some patrons of the Stonehill Inn seem quite curious about these happenings concerning Arvel while a few others promptly leave as he begins chanting over the brazier. Those who remain move away from the warlock toward the bar area and far corners of the inn to watch. After a while, however, they grow board with Arvel's hour plus spell casting and return to their normal conversations or depart. Toblen and his wife still look confused and concerned but eventually return to their usual duties, mostly just inquiring if Arvel will be ok or not.
During all of the reshuffling a familiar old but strong human man with white stubble, short white hair and tan skin suddenly realizes Tarja is next to him and says"Tarja?" "Don't normally see you in here. This your friend?" He gestures towards Arvel. Tarja knows this man as Narth, a local farmer who has always been friendly towards her.
As things settle down, Zeke would find Tarja and tell her about the red shirts sneering at Fae and his suspicion that they are at the bar down the street.
He'd then take up a position near Arvelto make sure he's not disturbed during the ritual. Standing at full height with his cloak covering his wings, arms crossed over his chest, he'd scowl at anyone who got too close and let his hand drift to his blade if they didn't get the hint with the hard look.
Fae could feel Edgar grow restless on her head. He squirmed until he was perched up front, causing her hood to stand taller on her head with his beak peeking out. "Ouu shiny." Edgar would chirp as she walked away from the shrine. "No Edgar. That shiny is not for you."
Would Fae have been able to see Zeke?
just an unstable unicorn.
When Elra speaks up, Arvel begins smiling and nodding as he approaches her.
He continues to chant,
"Charcoal. Sage. Cardamom. Brazier. Charcoal. Sage. Cardamom. Brazier. Charcoal. Sage. Cardamom. Brazier."
But now he is fumbling with his coin pouch and attempting to press coins into Elra's hands.

Fae actually finds Zeke patiently waiting for her outside the house near the shrine.
Toblen runs off and comes back with sage for Arvel, looking concerned and to the others for what to do next.
Fae would barely take a few steps and she'd come across a familiar silhouette, "Oh. Zeke?" she'd approach him.

Arvel's eyes clear for a fraction of a second before he doubles over in pain.
"GAAAAAAAAAH! Charcoal! Sage! Cardamom! Brazier! PLEASE!"
Coins are spilling from his hands as he tries desperately to press them into people's hands.
