As Tempest's rage builds within, he hears the Lingering Shadow's voice "This Vessel was your father. Then you will at least be together. That is important for lesser creatures?" the emotion in the voice is difficult to work out, not even gloating, and you get the impression that The Lingering Shadow has no real comprehension of what that means. It is, you think, beneath it's contempt.
So fixed on this is it, that it only seems to register Erro as he swipes at the Vessel.
"So, how strange? You all came hear willingly? You are tired of living, for you cannot hurt me." there is a some deep, cold, satisfaction again. You doubt this creature really understands pleasure - though you sense that it killing you all will allow it to feel something similar.

The air around you all seems to chill, and the shadows all around you begin to move, as if a great cloud was caught in a storm. It is oppressive, horrifying and seems to try and permeate your very beings making you want to choke.
Everyone roll a constitution save vs a DC 15. On a failure you are poisoned. You may reattempt the save at the end of each of your turns.
You can also all make a perception or insight check if you want....
The Vessel, that hideous mockery of Tempest's father lurches into life, bringing the wicked blade up and round, swinging at Erro twice:
Tempest pulls free of his bonds with ease and focuses all his energy on the lifeless shell of his father. "I will not allow you to desecrate his body any more!" he shouts casting Moonbeam. He will then Wildshape into a Spider King
Ellis had heard as the thing talked about how they couldn't hurt it, shaking his head. Everything has to have some kind of weakness. Then he felt the air get cold and the shadows around them moving, how oppressive it is and feeling it try to make him want to choke. But he pushed through it, thinking that he has to focus as he freed himself from the binds. First he fires off a spell at the Lingering Shadow, hoping that it works. "We have to stop this thing!" Ellis then called out as he wanted to help his friends so that they all can defeat this thing.
Action: Faerie Fire at the Lingering Shadow, DEX Save 14 or be outlined in blue light and shed dim light while any attack roll against an affected creature or object has advantage if the attacker can see it, and the affected creature or object can't benefit from being invisible.
Bonus Action: Mantle of Inspiration - grant 5 temp HP to Erro, Tempest, and Rawk and all of them can immediately use their reactions to move up to their speed without provoking opportunity attacks

All the years of oppression, hunting and living in fear... all the souls lost to the yuan-ti and this creature including her own mother... everything they've worked towards... Rawk feels a surge of emotion overcome her and she deftly picks up the axe at her feet, rages, and charges at the gensai shadow creature.
Rawk's attack against the the Vessel fails to connect, the tough skin of the creature deflecting the blow. It moves more quickly than might be expected, and the flickers of Ellis' spell miss. However, as it misses, you see flickers of blue light travel throughout the shadow that surrounds you. Ellis and Erro, you have a horrifying realisation. In this place, the Shadow that surrounds you is in some strange way, the Lingering Shadow. You are, from a certain point of view, already inside the beast.
Tempest is not distracted from anything though, and the Vessel is caught by the full blast of his spell, parts of its flesh burning away.

Ellis saw as his spell had missed, only to see that the Lingering Shadow wasn't the Vessel, but all the shadows around them. "Guys, the shadows here are the Lingering Shadow! Be careful!" he says, thinking as he looks to Erro and moves to behind him. "Stay strong." he says as he touches his back and casts Lesser Restoration before looking to Rawk and casting Healing Word on her.
Movement: moves to behind Erro
Action: Cast Lesser Restoration on Erro to end the Poisoned condition
If so, Erro will stow his sword and light a torch as he runs back to the entrance of the area that they are in to see if the guards have been alerted.
If that doesn’t seem like a possibility, Erro will return to the fray and make a weapon attack, thanking Ellis for curing the poison. Attack: 19 Damage: 4
You are certainly making a degree of sound. You can approach to see down the tunnel you came through... the door at the other end isn't open yet, but you know there are plenty of enemies within a short distance of this place. You won't be be able to reach it this turn, but next you could attempt to shut and bar the inner gate on this side of the tunnel if you wished.

Rawk tenses as she feels the tendrils of shadow slam into her body but shrugs off the pain.
(Do I get an attack of opportunity on Tempest's dad since he moved away to attack him?)
AoO (If so): 12 Damage: 8
Rawk follows closely behind the zombie flanking with Tempest and brings down her axe in a wide arc attempting to sever the creatures body in two. She'll turn to Tempest and say, "Perform the ritual and purify the heart!"
Yes, good point I had forgotten you get the attack of opportunity.
You slice into the zombie as it moves back, then swiftly follow with another blow. It now looks very badly mauled, and seems to stagger slightly, shadow leaking out of the wounds.
"What do you hope to accomplish?" the voice hisses out in your mind, perhaps almost amused "I would be disappointing to see my favourite vessels destroyed. But, in the end, I'll have some replacements by the end of the day."
