Ellis was stunned as the creature attacked and bit Erro, seeing him go limp. "Erro!" he said as he immediately went to behind Erro and then cast Cure Wounds on him. "You did great, let's keep going at it." he then says to Erro to encourage him, giving him a Bardic Inspiration.
Rawk slashes into the creature's side lacerating deep into the beast's large midsection. The air around Darion seems to darken slightly as arcane energy collects and flashes. The creature immediately recoils in pain as Darion's spell impacts. Elia watches Ellis run to Erro's aid and turns back to the creature and summons a small flame in her hand. She twists her hand and hurls the orb of flame into the creature's face. The creature roars in pain from all the damage and looks for an exit choosing to retreat.
Erro gasps awake as he is bolted back into consciousness by Ellis' healing magic. He groans as he feels what must be (or must have been) several broken ribs that have been stitched back together by the magic and he shakily stands. He glances quickly back at Ellis, "Ellis, I owe you a drink or two, or seventy, thank you!" Erro looks balefully at the reptile and leaps towards it, hoping to achieve vengeance.
Erro swiftly gets to his feet and rushes towards the creature. He ducks and slides along and ground slicing the creature's leg with his sword severing the tendon. The creature, unable to withstand any more damage drops to the ground breathing heavily and lets out a small roar showing off its long sharp teeth one last time. The clawed arms lash out at the air in vain just before Erro stands over the mortally wounded beast and thrusts his sword through the eye socket. With a heavy thump the head slumps to the ground and the body becomes still. An eerie silence creeps in over you and lingers for about a minute before slowly, the sounds of nature begin to return.
(End of combat! )
Erro- you look down at your abdomen and find no teeth marks. Apparently your shield took the brunt of the chomp on your front. However as you move to bend you feel an tenderness along your back. You aren't sure what it looks like but you can tell you will have scars along your back from the puncture wounds. Your armor and clothing across your back and upper legs are soaked in blood. You feel a bit more tired than you should, but then again you haven't faced death this closely before.
Rawk will Look at the creature then to Error then up to where she left Tahvo and fly over to him to bring him back to the ground with the others. Once she's landed she'll say, "Erro, are you okay? Do you need to rest? This will probably attract more creatures soon. We can take some meat and pieces but we should get moving soon." she chirps pointing her wing to the fallen dinosaur.
Erro gives a grim nod towards the reptile; a sort of salute to what was a great beast that had bested him. He leans against its flank for support and winces as he does so, feeling his back and blood soaked clothes. “I... don’t know if I’m okay. I’ve got less blood than I did before, that’s for sure. But, you’re right, we need to get out of here before anything else with sharp teeth comes along looking to pick over this meal.”
Erro stands to his feet and grits his teeth. Relentless 4 (2nd use out of 3). He feels a bit woozy, but he signals to march on, though he suggests he may not be the best choice to take point until a proper rest.
Ellis nods, then watches and is so relieved as Erro was able to defeat the creature. He listened to Rawk and Erro as he nodded in agreement. "If you ever need to take a rest though, I've got a spell that will protect all of us for as long as we are resting." Ellis would say back to them, ready to head out and get moving right now. But when and if they need to take a rest, he would make sure to cast Leomund's Tiny Hut first.
Darion looks palpably relieved as the creature is slain by Erro.
"Yes, lets go now!" the terseness in his voice conveys the tension he feels. As the party moves off, you might hear him mutter under his breath "This would never bloody happen in the city!"
Rawk will look down at the creature and use her axe to sever a clawed arm and part of the jaw to keep some of the teeth. Thinking that the parts may be valuable to the next village. Once done she'd put the bloody pieces in a side section of her bag and grab Tahvo ready to depart.
You all take a moment to check over Erro while Rawk hacks off a couple body parts. Rawk you successfully obtain a severed arm with 3 claws and a third of a jaw containing 12 teeth. You set off back into the jungle feeling both victorious and solemn at the recollection of Erro's near death experience. As you traverse forward Robyn sees small bipedal creatures, roughly a foot or two in height, move in on the fallen creature and begin to devour its flesh.
(Rolling Incase DM wants to make next post before lightnin sees this, but Erro would let Rawk do the navigating at this point, but he’d contribute wisdom.)
Survival: 7 (if he has disadvantage due to wounds he certainly wouldn’t do it!)
Rawk, with her adrenaline still pumping leads the group slightly off course. As you travel deeper into the river enriched jungle, the canopy thickens making it difficult to determine direction. Instead of heading North and slightly east you end up heading Northwest. The dense overbearing canopy does aid in your travel by reducing the underbrush. Instead of bushes and ferns you have mostly a damp leaf covered floor with scattered long vines that hang down from the branches above. The jungle is dimly lit all around and the air is humid and cool... too cool. Though you are making excellent pace the already dim light of the day suddenly fades as the sun sets and you are cast into darkness. Only sporadic rays of moonlight that pierce through the canopy light up the jungle floor.
You decide on settling against a large tree for the night and make camp. The tree provides cover for a few of you but in general you are out in the open. Elia begins casting a cantrip over and over causing large mushrooms to sprout up around your camp providing a bit more concealment from any predators that may be lurking.
For any that want to take a watch, roll perception.
(Can we assume Erro needs a full night of rest? If so, he will not take a watch till after he’s completed a long rest.)
Erro groans as he lays down after a long and hard day. He asks for help treating his wounds, and he takes off the undershirt that has acted as bloody rag. “Please don’t wake me unless we are being eaten or possessed by another shadow creature. I’ve had enough excitement for one day.”

Darion collapses onto the ground near Ellis and Tahvo. He quickly checks in with the boy, then leans back and pulls out his spell book. He tries to read for a couple of minutes, then shakes his head, unable to concentrate. He turns to Ellis
"You know, I'm really starting to hate the jungle. Why couldn't the Yuan-ti have some hidden base in a city somewhere? Where I grew up, you ended up getting chased a lot, for fun, or because you stole something, or because some rival neighbourhood wanted to beat you up and take what food you had. Perhaps the worst of them might even have killed you. But at least they weren't trying to eat you!"
He shudders at the thought, glancing over at the exhausted Erro. "Well, I suppose there was Thin Tara and her gang, but they always left their own neighbourhood alone so we were okay." he pauses contemplatively "With hindsight we should have thought more about why they only came out at night, but at the time it was only after a bunch of priests and soldiers descended on her lair we cottoned on!"
He pulls out his spellbook again with a sigh, trying to read through it "I miss home, even those bits!"
Darion will get Robyn to scout again, and help keep watch.
Erro repositions his body, overhearing the conversation. But, how clear it could be heard without the underbrush and the bugs crowding around them; this seemed an unseemly place to him. Dispite that disconcernment he joins, though not bothering to open his eyes."To be sure, I miss even the most desolate deserts and the dreist vallies of my homeland right about now." One eye winks open as he looks at Darion through the gloom, "But, 'twas no great jungle beast that seperated me from family and forced me from my country. No, it was the ordinary, everyday decietfulness of man. At least there is no question or surprise at what the beast wants to do to me; the beasts are true. Who knows what secrets and agendas men hide? The city is kind to the body but poison to the soul." He sighs,"still though, I suppose there's nothing like home, as they say.""This Thin Tara ordeal sounds like a good story. I'd be eager to hear it some day when I am loosing less blood."
Darion looks up at Erro's words, and is quiet for a moment after "I think Cities are like any other tool, in the end, they are neither good nor evil in themselves but reflect the state of the people in them." he takes a thoughtful look, staring at the small campfire for long moments "There may be something in what you say about the difference between men and beasts, though I can't help thinking the problem comes from being more like beasts than we like to pretend. Perhaps we are just better at telling stories to explain why we must eat, or kill."
Darion will spend long moments watching the dancing flames, thinking on what Erro said, before returning to his studies and after trying to go to sleep.
