Ellis is relieved as he managed to put one of those Rippers to sleep and then the other two got scared by Erro before running away. He heard as Kanush told them that they should leave before hearing the roar, shivering. "Yes, let's quickly get going." he then said back to everyone, nodding. So he would follow the others to quickly leave this area, definitely not wanting to encounter whatever made that roar.
With Kanush leading, the party rapidly makes it's way through the jungle, everyone's nerves looking taut. Not look after leaving the clearing you hear a strangle mix of roars, one high pitched and frantic, another deep and loud. The high pitched one abruptly cuts out. Kanush looks more worried, gesturing you all on. After about ten minutes though, there is no sound of any pursuit - though the normal sounds of the jungle can be quite scary enough on their own.
In silence, the party makes progress, occasionally stopping at Kanush's gestures. Once you have a view down into a deep river. Walking along it is a huge creature that dwarfs anything else you can see. It's neck is long, and the great beast is feeding on trees near the river. After a few moments it effortlessly crosses the stream to the other side, and you can feel the great legs as they hit the ground, the vibrations going through your bodies.
Kanush looks relieved "They are not hunters, though can be dangerous if they feel threatened" he says. You all pause for a moment, and Mung walks up to Kanush and they exchange a hurried conversation. After a moment Kanush nods and Mung.
Mung walks up to you, and in broken common says "I go now.My people not welcome in his home." he gestures at Kanush "strange for a goblin to say, but I thank you." he gives a strange little bow, then slips away into the forest.
Kanush comments "What a strange day, but he is right... our peoples are often in conflict. Sad to say, but if we ever meet again, it will probably be as enemies." He stares thoughtfully after Mung "But not today." with that he whispers a quiet prayer for Mung's safe travel, then turns to you all.
"We are almost at my village, where we will be safe for the moment. We have perhaps another couple of hours to go, but things seem calm so we can take a quick rest if people wish."
You may take a short rest if you all wish, though Kanush will get twitchy about staying in one place to long. Is there anything you guys want to do / look out for / chat about amongst yourselves?
Tempest will look to the group and say, "If there are only a couple hours left, I think we should continue. I can make us more quiet while we travel. I can only do it for a maximum of two hours though. If anyone is hungry I can make some more berries as well." Tempest figured they could make good time if they continued forward but knew his allies were tapped and could use a break. He could also benefit from a short rest but wanted to reach safety more than take the chance of being attacked again.
Either way, Tempest will cast Pass Without Trace once they begin to move again and cast it a second time. If the group is hungry he'll cast Goodberry
(PWoT will use up my last two 2nd level slots. Goodberry will leave me with 2 1st level slots.)
((Whoops! Busy week! Sorry to delay our great pacing we had!! You're doing a great job by the way.))
Erro looks down into the valley and marvels at the huge, thundering creature, dumbfounded. He's lost looking for a bit and forgets about the current situation for a brief, merciful moment. Erro watches the exchange between Mung and Kanush and finds it touching, but he cannot appreciate what the two have been through, only that it must have been something indeed. Perhaps it would be a benefit down the line to have a friend among the goblins, who knows?
"I can keep going, but I also, no offense, don't look like you guys. You look like you have been regurgitated by one of these beasts! It may be safest if we keep a move on. I am eager to see some sort of civilization.. something besides lizard-beasts, snake-people, trees, and mud puddles."
Ellis had been relieved that they weren't being chased until they all saw the huge creature down by the river. Luckily it had left before he saw Kanush and Mung talking. He listened as Mung said that he had to go, not being welcomed here and thanking him. "Be careful!" Ellis had said as Mung left, hearing Kanush and feeling bad that their people don't get along and how they would become enemies next time they meet. He thought about what the other said, whether they should keep going or rest and hearing the others. "Let's keep going. It's too dangerous to stay here. I can make us quiet for the third hour as well." he said back with a nod, knowing that he was probably in the worst shape out of everyone and would normally want the rest. But with all that they just fought earlier and all the roars, they would only get attacked again if they stay here. Then he had heard Erro ask where they are from, thinking as he remembered his village and his mother. "My home is in a small village on the far outskirts. I'm not sure how far it is from here though since I have no idea where we are at right now." Ellis had said back, wondering if his mother and the other villagers are doing alright. She must be wondering where he is at right now, wanting to go back home soon.
If the trip is longer than two hours, then Ellis would cast Silence on the whole group for an hour as soon as Tempest's Pass Without Trace is gone.
"My family was taken when I was younger and I've lived out in the valley for years before the Yuan-ti found me. We all escaped from the nearby temple and are just trying to find somewhere safe before we decided what to do next." Tempest replies.
While you are talking amongst yourselves, Kanush nods agreement at your decision. "Let us get home" he says, noting it is now mid afternoon.
Feel free to carry on talking in character, but if you are being stealthy and keeping a look out, give me a stealth check and either a perception of nature check.
Also, as a campaign issue - you cannot change DM, so I will start another 'World of the Night Serpent' campaign - might be helpful, especially as the initiative tracker has finally been released. However, need to think about what to do about SixFoot - I've PM'd him but got no response, and he hasn't posted to any of the games he has been in since January according to his profile. Though if he's having computer difficulties or other life stuff don't want to exclude him, but might be best to have Daner sit out for a bit (and he can join if / when Sixfoot can rejoin). Related to that, this brings the party down to 3. Did people want to think about trying to recruit a new 4th player? Probably best to PM me with your thoughts...
((I think it makes sense to look for a fourth man. If Sixfoot suddenly returns he will be welcomed back and then we'll play with 5! Does anyone have a friend who they think would be a good addition to this play by post? We totally lucked out on this group. If not, I'm sure there are more great folks out there. If nobody has anyone in particular in mind, we can open the thread up and do a bit of recruiting. I doubt it will take long to find someone! What do y'all think? Know anyone?))
(I have a few work friends that have been part of my PbP campaign. Some are newer to D&D but all have been active. I will PM their names to foofaspoon for him to look over.)
Tempest will cast [Pass Without Trace[/spell] and stay in the middle of the group so all benefit from it. +10 to all their stealth rolls.
You make good progress through the jungle, the canopy overhead seeming quite oppressive to those of you not used to the wilderness. All around are the shrieks and calls of the jungle, punctuated by sounds of the hunt; distant roars, and the rustle of trees being shaken by the passage of some great creature. There is also though beauty in this place, a richness of the colours and scents of the many strange plants around. Tempest would know many of them, and even Darion recognises a few as ingredients in magical rituals. There is fruit and food enough along the way that Kanush points out to keep you comfortable, if not full, for the Journey.
After about half an hour, with the excellent attention you all had, you notice the whiff of carrion in the air. Kanush gestures to be careful, and you all move more cautiously - well disguised by the forest. You see to your right a small valley, hidden mostly by the great trees that coat the sides. But you make out something that could almost be a bird's nest - on a huge scale. As you sidle along, you hear the faint snorts of some creature, and the a glimpse of a large scaly hide moving in the trees - far larger than the Lurker's you encountered. But whatever it is does not seem to notice you,and you make it past without incident. (Good rolls everyone and PWT a lifesaver sometimes!!)
The rest of the journey passes without incident, and you soon find yourselves entering a less oppressive part of the forest. Tempest would recognise clear signs that this has been managed by something intelligent - trees cut back, edible plants encouraged to grow, and clearer paths maintained. Kanush relaxes a little, leading you on a little further until you abruptly come to a denser part of the jungle, the trees and bushes seem to crowd in, making the path look impassable.
Is there anything you guys want to do / or work through your introductions as you are moving towards this point?
Tempest will gaze in awe of the splendor of the jungle feeling more at home. As they approach signs of civilization he'd think to himself and a shudder of doubt would run through him. Almost there... What if Kanush's people are savages or cannibals? Who is this person we blindly trusted. Surely he isn't like that. He couldn't hide his true intentions so easily could he. What are we even going to do once we get there. What am I going to do and what was that giant creature?
Feeling a sense of fear creeping in, Tempest would shake his head and return to the task at hand and ask in a whispered voice. "Kanush, what is your village like? Will we be welcome there?"
Erro was eager to hear about and see the village. “Such delicious food and exotic beauties it must contain!”
For the village to have existed so close to a supposed Yuan-ti temple, and what more, among such giant predators, offered Erro something that he secretly wanted; a safe place to lay low where he could let this whole Yaun-ti ordeal blow over... or at least let him forget about it for a time.
Kanush turns to Tempest "I believe so, especially when they find out you have helped do such damage to the Yuan-ti. Our people have been hard-pressed by them for the best part of a century. There are far fewer of us, to many have been lost to raids. Still, their power is weakening."
He looks pensive, as if he is about to say more "When we get there, it might be best to talk to Elia. She is our guardian, and possess powers similar to your own I believe"
"That's encouraging. Thank you for sharing. I would enjoy speaking with another druid of the forest. I've never met one before. So how do we penetrate this barrier?" Tempest replies softly as they continue to make their way.

Erro sighs and thinks aloud, “best to quit while you’re ahead I guess... that’s always been my problem hasn’t it?”
He abandons the project and turns and leaves with the others, thankful for his stroke of good luck this day, and hoping for more.
