Ellis, you make an effort to shake your mind free as you feel an deep emptiness enter your body, as if your very essence is being drawn and strung out. You break out of the enchantment, taking in for the first time how perilous your situation is. The shadows are so intense, you can barely make out where you are, the trees around dark and forbidding. The strange shadow forms seem to be trying to entwine you in an embrace, formless with only the hint of a body and limbs.
You feel suddenly weary, and you take one level of exhaustion. You are also are immune to their ability to control your mind for 24 hrs (but not their draining attack).
You now have a turn (as in combat).
Meanwhile, back at the camp just 30ft away, Rawk snores happily, content she is finally going on an adventure. Erro is curled in a ball, gently drooling onto his backpack and Tempest stirs for a moment, shifts and falls back to sleep again...
Ellis immediately starts shaking as he frantically looks around, feeling beyond terrified of this darkness and the shadows around him. "Guys! Help!!" he screams at the top of his lungs as he quickly casts Faerie Fire at the shadow forms. Then whether that works or not, he will hastily try to run away as fast as he can hopefully in the direction back to the camp.
Action: Faerie Fire at the shadow forms - Dex Save 14 or outlined in blue light, attack rolls against it having advantage and can't benefit from being invisible
Movement: 30 feet back towards camp hopefully (he will take the opportunity attacks...)
Ellis, the ground is not easy, and at night, so i'll rule it counts as difficult terrain - you can make it 15ft back towards the camp.
The Shadow Whisperer, it's voice now venomous and hostile calls to you, and you realise it is speaking to you in your own mind "Foolish little Ellis, Weak little Ellis. A burden to his friends. Just useless baggage for them to carry! They would thank us for removing such a pathetic hanger-on!"
The Shadow Whisperer laughs coldly inside Ellis' head, and Ellis realises that the Shadow-creature slips away from his Faerie Fire. It flows after him, an amorphous thing without definition. "Stay still and let me feed!" it calls.
Ellis feels the coldness descend again, though he can at least see he friends so tantalisingly close. Make another Con save for me....
The rest of the party is most definitely woken up by the sounds of Ellis's screaming. Blearily you take in Ellis stumbling as fast as he can back towards the camp, but even in this dim light there is something strange about him, like the shadows of the jungle are trying to wrap themselves around him.
Rawk, you can make a quick Wisdom check for me to see if you can work out what this creature is...
We are now fully in initiative:
Ellis
Shadow Whisperer
Rest of party (who have just woken up, essentially have been surprised - you will be able to act normally next round)
Ellis, after your Con save it will be your turn again....
Ellis suddenly hears the thing in his mind, shaking his head. "No, stop it! That's not true! Leave me alone!" he yells, holding his head and covering his ears, trying to tune it out. But even he couldn't deny that it was right, how he has felt useless and weak all this time, a burden on the others.
Tempest's eyes flew open at the sound of Ellis' voice. He'd shake his head and look in the direction of the sound squinting and blinking a few times as he tried to understand why the darkness didn't seem to clear up. His eyes go wide as he realizes the shadows seemingly following Ellis and a cold shiver runs through his body.
Ellis, you feel the cold darkness grip you again. You take a further level of exhaustion, and in addition take 4 points of damage to your constitution score.
It is now Ellis' turn, followed by the rest of the party (feel free everyone to post actions, I'll just resolve Ellis' first)
Ellis started coughing, shivering and feeling himself getting weaker and even more exhausted. He will attempt to Dash back to camp, seeing the others now awake and reaching out to them. "Help..." he calls out, terrified as he happens to look right at Tempest.
Action: Dash 15 ft back to camp (30 ft with Dash but halved with difficult terrain to 15 ft)
Erro bolts awake at the sound of Ellis’ scream, and he frantically looks all around him as the darkness in this area seems as if it is pressed against his very eyeballs. Erro slings his shield across his back and frantically tries to find a torch from his bag. Erro will bolt off in the direction of the screams while struggling to light a torch on the move (I think this would be difficult). He does not have any reason to suspect that it isn’t a new sort of carnivorous beast, but he knows he would need light to fight anyway. Once the torch is lit, if he didn’t immediately see anything, he might wave the torch around hoping to get the attention of the supposed dinosaur.
Ellis, as you arrive back in the small camp, you find yourself warmed by the low fire. There is light here, close to it. The Shadows flow towards you but,to your mind, seem to recoil as they approach the fire, perhaps taking stock as your companions awake as well. You hear a hiss of displeasure.
"Poor, cowardly Ellis. Always running. Always hiding. Sniveling and grovelling. Perhaps there will be tastier meals..."
The shadow seems to retreat away from the fire, into the darker shadow of the night.
Rawk, you here a voice in your mind.
"Brave Rawk, so eager for battle. You won't cower by the fire will you? Come to us! Show your bravery!"

Rawk wakes up to the sound of Ellis screaming somewhat annoyed by the noise. She hears the voices in her mind and in her groggy state nods in agreement thinking, ya...who needs the light anyway. I got this.
Erro, you take in the strange scene and as you prepare to move, Ellis stumbles in,looking pale and haggard. You quickly light a torch swinging it around, and can see only shadows outside. Then, even more strangely, Rawk wakes up and shoots out of the camp, heading into the darkness outside.
Rawk, you are compelled to spend your turn moving as close to the Shadow creature as you can, heading towards a dense patch of darkness that seems, in your mind, to beckon. This is a chance to show your mettle. Meanwhile, another part of your mind is screaming at you to stay in the light, a memory about shadows and whispers tugging just beyond reach.
(I'll see if Tempest posts what to do with his turn before I move on), and Ellis will be up afterwards.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Erro looks at Ellis, astonished. He seems emaciated, as if he had just trekked across the entire jungle while Erro was fast asleep. Rawk bolts off into the jungle before Erro can even say a word. "Ellis, what on Toril is going on!?" Erro looks over at Tempest worried, half expecting him to run off into the night, like it was all some sort of joke.
Insight: 8 (to see if Erro possibly recognizes that something supernatural is afoot)
Tempest will stand to his feet and cast Produce Flame and throw the flame at the shadows. "Be gone foul creature!" he shouts before (bonus) transforming into a Brown Bear and moving between Rawk and the shadow. (If possible, if not he'll move as close as he can to Rawk)
Tempest you cast wildly into the shadows around Rawk, but the flames seem to hit something, and for a brief moment the flames dance around an amorphous figure... or is it three?
Rawk in your mind you hear a hiss of what sounds almost like pain "Your not like that, are you Rawk? Not some coward who hides behind magic...". Still, to Tempest's eye, the shadows around Rawk seem to grip less firmly.
Ellis had felt the shadows recoil, hearing the hissing and the voice, now worried about the others. That's when he saw Rawk go into the jungle, shocked. "Rawk, no!!" he called out as he then heard Erro. "T-There are shadows in the jungle. They lured me out there, trying to feed off of me. But now, they are going to do the same to Rawk. We have to save her." he had told him, thinking. They had promised Rawk's father that they would protect her, he can't just let her die. Despite being scared about going near those shadows again, he would move 15 feet towards where Rawks went. If he can see her, he will cast Calm Emotions on her to try to quickly bring her back to her senses. If he can't see her, he will move another 15 feet towards her (Dash) and then call out to her. "Rawk, please don't listen to them! What about your father? You need to get back home to him, to show that you are strong enough to have survived this journey." Ellis yells, hoping to snap her out of whatever the shadows are saying and also be enough of an already weakened bait/nuisance that the shadows will try to feed off of him again instead of going for Rawk.
Movement: 15 ft towards Rawk
Action: (If he can see Rawk) Cast Calm Emotions on Rawk: CHA Save 14
You attempt to suppress strong emotions in a group of people. Each humanoid in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on a point you choose within range must make a Charisma saving throw; a creature can choose to fail this saving throw if it wishes. If a creature fails its saving throw, choose one of the following two effects.
You can suppress any effect causing a target to be charmed or frightened. When this spell ends, any suppressed effect resumes, provided that its duration has not expired in the meantime.
(If he can't see Rawk) Dash another 15 ft towards Rawk

((Ellis nice, give yourself inspiration for that!!))
Rawk, if you choose to fail the saving throw (or feel Rawk would try and resist and save!), the charm effect is suppressed and you will be able to act normally on your turn...
The creature speaks in your mind, but this time you hear the malice in it's voice "So, just a taster!"
Rawk, I need you to make a con saving throw. On a success (DC 13) you take 1 level of exhaustion, on a failure you take 1 level and loose 2 points of constitution.
The shadow creature then starts to pull away from you, moving deeper into the shadow of the jungle... Rawk, you get an attack of opportunity if you wish.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Still not knowing precisely what to expect, but trusting what Ellis said to him, Erro will run along with Ellis into the woods, holding his torch high in one hand and his shield ahead of him in the other.
Erro girds himself for whatever he might face, and I’ll use my UA Ranger temporary HP feature: 8.
Erro will stand within 5 feet of Ellis, accompanying him.

Temepst rush between the shadows and Rawk once they've fled unsure if she wants to pursue and usher her back to the safety of the fire with his large body. He'd keep his head facing the wilderness never taking his eyes off the darkness. If anything deemed as a threat approached he'd swipe at it with his claws and bite into it. (Held action)
Attacks: Claw- 19 Bite- 20
Damage: Claw- 10 Bite- 10
