Tempest, fortunately your's and Rawk's eagle eyes mean that the strange shadow creature doesn't catch you by surprise. Instinctively you hurl a bolt of flame at the shadows, and you hear a snarl of pain in your mind. For a brief moment something is illuminated in fire.
Your cry wakes Ellis and Erro - you can both act freely on your turn but start prone.
Ellis will be up next, then the Shadow Whisperer
The Shadow Whisperer reaches into Tempest's mind "There is something... familiar in you. Ahhhh we remember. The Dark Shadow has tasted your kind's blood I believe. Sooo similar to you." there is a pause then, with malevolent delight "Ah, you think it was Mummy or Daddy dearest do you? Well, his sniveling was so impressive as he begged for his life, grovelling and crying that it almost caused the Dark One to show mercy." the creatures laughs, as gold and empty as the shadows it lives in. "It is a favourite shell now. Perhaps you could join him..."
Make a Wisdom save Tempest (unless Ellis does something to disrupt the creatures action on his turn)
Ellis instantly wakes up as he hears Tempest, seeing the shadows. No, not again! He gets up and will move 15 feet towards Tempest. "Leave him alone!!" he yells as he shoots out Faerie Fire at the shadows. "Do not listen to them, Tempest. No matter what they say!" Ellis calls out to Tempest, not wanting him to be lured in like they were.
Movement: 15 ft to stand up and then move another 15 ft towards Tempest
Action: Faerie Fire at the Shadow Whisperer - DEX Save 14 or be outlined in violet light and shed dim light in 10 ft radius while attackers have advantage and they can't benefit from being invisible
The Shadow Whisperer seems to dance back into the shadows as a flare of light from Ellis' spell engulfs the area, and Tempest hears another hollow laugh, tinged with anger. As the light fades, the shadows resume their previous station untouched. However Tempest is easily able to shake off the attempt to control him, and he senses something that feels like frustration coming from the Shadow Whisperer.
Erro awakens with a startle, knowing exactly what the cry meant. Erro quickly rises to his feet and blinks as his eyes adjust to the scene, the flame of the campfires bizarrely muted. Erro will use his action, if able, to grab two torches (that he would have set within reach, like a sword) and light them in the nearby fire. If there is any of the 15 foot movement remaining after first going to the fire, he will use it to follow Ellis.
15 feet probably puts you towards the boundary fires. The Shadow creature is just on the edge of their area of dim light, shall we say about 30ft from where Erro, Ellis etc are.
Yup, grabbing two torches is fine. Erro looks quite impressive as he strides forward, the torchlight highlighting his face.
Rawk will follow Erro's lead and pull out a torch from her bag and light it in the fire. "Back to back with your watch partner. Cover each other and keep your eyes moving. Don't listen to anything they say." she chirps holding the lit torch out in front of her.
If she has a bonus action still, Rawk will rage thinking back to how the shadows tricked her and her frustration at not knowing how to combat them.
A pale column of silver strikes down upon the Whisperer, burning through the shadows around it, and it seems that they recoil from touching the beam. For a moment the Whisperer is highlighted by a nimbus of light, and you get a vague impression of twisted humanoids, perhaps even something serpentine about them, but any definition is hard to make out. You hear the Whisperer give a shriek of alarm in your mind, and it desperately tries to flee out of the Moonbeam's ray. In that instant, you see it's whole shape consumed by ghostly flames that seems to burn through it's form, tearing through it. You hear one final shriek of despair, and then it seems to rip apart, scattering motes of shadows that are then in turn consumed by the holy inferno. In a few seconds there is nothing left of the Whisperer and you and your companions are alone again in the dark jungle, the torch fires glittering in the dark and making strange light plays with Moonbeam. Tempest would note the creature seemed particularly vulnerable to the radiant damage.
((Well done! Exactly the right spell, and you got lucky there was no random encounter so it had no friends to back it up))
What do you guys want to do? Feel free to debrief, and if you want to continue the long rest you may do say and finish it successfully. Again you would loose a level of exhaustion normally, however unfortunately the Con drain stays.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Phew! I don't know about the others but I was running out of ideas.)
"Well that worked more than I thought it would." Tempest says looking at his hands then back at the spot where the shadow creature died. "It seems to be vulnerable to radiant damage." he adds. Tempest will let Erro and Ellis drift back to sleep and stay up to finish his watch with Rawk taking a moment to check on her. Medicine: 18
If he notices anything he'll attempt to cast Lesser Restoration on her to see if that helps with her ailment before going back to sleep.
Ellis had been relieved that Tempest did not fall to their influence, but having hit it with his spell again. He would have heard Rawk, nodding back before watching Tempest cast his spell and shocked as it actually worked. The shadows were destroyed, hearing the shrieks before it was gone, so thankful. Ellis would have nodded at Tempest as he decided to go back to sleep now, knowing that they are safe this time.
(lol yeah, Ellis wouldn't have anything that could help at all.)
Tempest focuses on lesser restoration, but as the spell is discharged he senses that the drain of Rawk's vitality would require a stronger version of this spell to work. However, there is often more than one way to behead an Orc, so there might be other ways of removing this problem.

ROUND 2
Tempest you are up first....
Do you like my Boots of Flying?
Tempest will focus on the first shadow he saw and cast Moonbeam on it. Target must make a DC13 Con save or take: 8 radiant damage or half on success.
"Begone foul creature!" he shouts as he positions himself back to back with Rawk.
A pale column of silver strikes down upon the Whisperer, burning through the shadows around it, and it seems that they recoil from touching the beam.
