The servants happy wish Witt a happy farewell and thank him for the gracious company during their respective breaks. Once back among the more elite guests of the gala, everything seems unchanged from Witt's perspective. However he would catch sight of Nemeia speaking with that nice gnome woman from before, Krin, they clearly seem to be enjoying their conversation.
"I'll have to make up a blueprint for ya."Krin offered Nemeia,"Though I suppose part of the fun is trying to figure out one-off specialty devices like this on your own. Either way, I'm sure it's a project you'd enjoy."As Nemeia spoke about Witt, Krin's face lit up,"Witt you say? Well Migram's blessed wrench, figures you'd know the only other kind person I've met in his whole party. Turns out he's the same halfling I spoke to earlier. Probably would bore him to tears talking about artificer engineering, but he's by far the most passionate farm priest I ever met. ... Well, he's the only farm priest I've ever met, so that's not saying much."
At another part of the gala, a stoic guard nodded at Lynn's request politely,"As you wish, my Lady. If you'd prefer, you may have a seat at the bench by the wall behind me, and I'll see if I can summon a medic to examine you."The guard gestured to the bench in question that was situated along the side wall of the ball room, somewhat out of the way of the rest of the party, but still within the ballroom itself. In other words, it would allow Lynn to be looked at by a healer without leaving the party or disturbing any of the other guests.
Outside the gala, Elaran gave Moira a satisfied smile in response to her comments. "Agreed, it's always good to find allies when navigating troublesome political waters. If you are serious about continuing, especially when it comes to discovering where she's hiding her secrets. I may be of some assistance in that regard. After all, having her followed was one of the first things I did once I began to suspect her. A certain underling I hired was able to trail her to a house here in the city. A house whose owners, rather suspiciously, decided to leave the city on a long vacation, leaving the house to their distant cousin to look after. I've been hoping to investigate the house, but the person I hired to look into it was never seen again after going inside. If you also hope to investigate this residence then that will be helpful to us both. Though I have to warn you, chances are great that the place is a deadly trap for intruders. Linthe has been far too cautious for it to be anything less. At the very least I recommend you do not go alone if you hope to survive and avoid capture."He took a long sip from his tea before adding casually,"Which reminds me, if you do happen to get caught at any time, I will completely deny ever having this conversation. I'm sure you can understand."

9 grits her teeth, focusing her eye on the assassin as she calls upon a flock of spectral ravens that swarm infront of the assassin, attempting to peck at their face. As she does that, the whip cracks through the air, lashing at the assassin’s foot with streaks of black lighting running through it.
Booming Blade whip Attack: 19, if advantage 13 Damage: 5 if they move additional 8 thunder damage
"You're right. The discovery process is half the fun of it all. Having all the answers may make things easier but you never have the happy accidents that lead to wondrous inventions that way," Nemeia says.
Nemeia smiles ear to ear when Krin confirms they were talking of the same person. "I have to admit that I hadn't come across any prior to meeting him either."
Khorzik maintains concentration on the web, grabs the princess, and hauls her outside the room in case the assassin tries to finish the job. He sets her outside the doorway to the left and re-enters the room, staying in the doorway.

Twisting the assassin's arm in her grasp, Soratugs on him hard enough to get him off balance before leaning her full weight into his body, trying to shove him hard into the ground, and coincidentally into the magic webs as well. Jostling against their attackers, the assassin is able to dodge 9's whip but can't do anything to prevent the swarm of ravens that peck at his face through the guard helmet. Cursing loudly, the assassin instinctively attempts to twist their body around Sora's grip to avoid being shoved to the ground, but the magical webs get in the way preventing them from completely avoiding the pin. In the end all he can manage is avoid getting hurt further in Sora's powerful grip. However, getting shoved completely into the webbing causes them to get firmly stuck by the arcane threads which begin wrapping around his limbs.
Desperate to escape the assassin tugs their ungrappled arm trying to pull it free from the web but it's useless as the magically enhances strands prove too strong.
Just then, down the hallway loud powerful footfalls can be heard thundering closer. Khorzik would be the first to see the massive, but very finely dressed, half-giant running quickly in his direction. The second he sees the princess on the ground a look of horror and then anger passes across his face.
"Sylna, no!" Konor cries out before moving quickly up to the doorway. He looks down at Khorzik, still disguised as a royal guard, as he bellows his commands,"Guard her with your life! I'll deal with these intruders!"He steps into the bedroom, pulling out his massive greatsword, and sees 9 and Sora as they subdue the assassin who was also disguised as a royal guard. Thus quickly jumping to the wrong conclusion, he holds up his greatsword at the two "intruders" assaulting one of the "royal guard"."You two shall die for this!"
9 tries to quickly pull out the paper and present Konor with the paper that contained the report. “You missed this, and your incompetence could cost her life! That’s the assassin.”, 9 almost hisses at Konor waving the paper back and forth between the direction of the assassin and the princess. As a show of their position in this conflict 9 will cast healing word at the princess, 7 healing.
Witt sees Nemeia in conversation with Krin, but decides against disturbing them as they seem to be having a nice discussion and he wouldn't want to interrupt. He looks around to see if there's anyone else who might be interesting or pleasant to talk to.
Khorzik ends his disguise self spell, returning to his normal appearance. "She speaks the truth. The princess owes us her life, primarily do to your incompetence. I suggest you search your entwined employee and decide if a poisoned dagger is standard issue. Also, we will submit to any questioning, magical or mundane, to verify our narrative of these events."

Sora just smiles back at the goliath, deciding to keep the assassin held down for now. Realizing her wings are still out she takes the time to revert them back to normal. "Uh ... this isn't what it looks like. ... We're here to help?"
Assuming no one is trying to do anything too aggressive anymore, we can assume this combat is over.
Konor walks over to 9, holding his sword at the ready with one hand - which is saying something given the massive size of his weapon - while reaching out and yanking the papers from her grasp. He looks them over quickly as he stays weary of the others before he responds his tone low and menacing."When you've spent your every waking moment dealing with the safety of the entire castle and the royal family while they are attacked from all sides, then you may speak to me of incompetence. Until then I will protect those I care about in any way I can. I could not receive this report in time due to having to deal with the security for tonight. Which is why I called for this agent to give his report in person. By the time I learned of this assassination attempt I rushed over here personally. Now until -"
"Dad?" the princess's voice cut him off quickly,"Dad, what are you doing? What happened in here?"The princess was peaking around the corner of the doorway looking into her own room.
"Sylna! Thank the gods you're alright!"Konor quickly replied putting his sword down. After taking a brief moment to compose himself he continued,"Princess, I've told you not to ... No never mind that for now. These people claim that they saved your life from the man on the floor who was trying to assassinate you. Is what they say true? If you need time to recover we can simply hold everyone for later questioning."
"Geez, it's just a little stab wound I'll be fine."The Princess said as she stood up to her feet. She immediately grimaced showing that the wound she received was still a ways off from being completely healed."Well, I will be eventually."She looked at everyone in the room still trying to figure out what had happened while she was out, beginning with 9 and Khorzik first,"Um, I'm not sure about these two, I was kinda knocked out by then."She then looked over at Sora and added,"But her I remember, she definitely saved my life. I remember she ran to save me after I got stabbed, like an avenging angel. Uh, anyway, that guy was definitely the guy who stabbed me though."She pointed to the assassin on the ground as she added her final words. The Assassin in question just gave an annoyed, defeated grunt as he buried his face against the ground, not caring anymore that he just kept getting more stuck in the magical web.
"Oh. I see."Konor says in a quieter tone before bowing his head to the others,"In that case I thank you greatly for saving the life of our Princess."Looking up and taking the situation into consideration he adds, "Um, if it's not too much trouble, would you mind keeping hold of that man until we can get some actual, real, not just a disguise, proper royal guards in here to take him into a dungeon cell for questioning?"

Khorzik faces the half-giant. "My ability to perform your duties has nothing to due with whether you performed them inadequately. If you knew you cannot complete your assignment and failed to take corrective measures, you are incompetent. This is no insult - it is a simply stated fact." Khorzik realizes he may be drawing too heavily on his upbringing and changes tactics. "However, I am sure your intentions were honorable. With the captain's permission,"he gestures towards Sora, "I think we could offer you our services in mitigating your struggle in protecting the royal family - for fair recompense, of course."
“I would like to be present during interrogation of the assasssin.”, 9 spoke, less with an asking tone, and more with a factual one. She moves towards the princess lying down on the floor slowly and carefully kneeling beside her. Her hand twitches for a moment, before she decides better of it and simply asks, “Are you feeling better, Sylna? I can help you a little more, if you want.”, 9’s pitiful attempt at trying to sound compassionate lead to her tone and voice to be rather quiet, even more so than usual.
As Moira stands vigil looking over the house she was directed to, she discovers nothing happening there. For a while it was quite a boring, even disappointing time, but slowly she started to realize; There was nothing happening in the house. Even the other houses in the neighborhood had more obvious activity. Guards patrolling at the doors, servants coming in and out, some flicker of lights at the windows as people moved about inside. Only with this particular house there was nothing, no lights, no movement, nothing at all, like it was dead inside.
Meanwhile back at the gala, Lynn and Kal found themselves sitting off to the side awaiting a healer from the Castle's Royal staff. As they waited they began to notice all of the guards and servants suddenly start moving erratically. Many of the guards were moving through the ballroom and into the castle itself. It didn't take long for Witt and Nemeia to notice the same thing, particularly as Krin picked up on it and made a note that something strange was happening.
"To all the Gentlepeople gathered here tonight!"Suddenly the herald at the top of the stairs began his announcement that rang out across the ballroom."It is with great sorrow that we must unfortunately announce we will be ending tonight's festivities a little early. There has been an incident within these castle walls. Rest assured the matter is being handled accordingly. However for our safety and your own, we have no choice but to call for the closing of events. We humbly beseech all of our dear and honored guests for their understanding and cooperation in this matter. We hope you enjoyed the celebration despite the early end. For everyone's continued enjoyment and safety, we will have guards escorting everyone out of the castle. Thank you again to all our wonderful guests who attended, and we pray to the gods for your continued wonderful and safe evening."
Moira reaches for her spell book just then realizing that she had not brought it to the gala. Cursing herself quietly she left the house and started back toward The Sturdy Unicorn making a note to get a strap to allow her to carry the book on her belt. On my back she starts collecting her gear but stops as she notices the dust collecting on the hem of her new robes. Changing clothes she heads down and asks the staff if they would be able to get the robes cleaned for her and leaves a message for the group with directions to the house for when they return.
Witt attempts to gather Lynn, Kal and Nemeia together so that they can speak before they are escorted/herded out. Incident? Do you know if something has happened? Where is everyone else?
Though it was probably meaningless by this point, Sora kept hold of the assassin to ensure he wouldn't escape like Konor asked. She was starting to feel a bit awkward about it though.
"Look, clearly we don't mean you or your family any harm. We can help you." Sora told Konor, "Like I was explaining to the Princess, we know who killed Queen Illia, and we want to bring her to justice. Better we work together on this then fight each other."
"I"m fine, thank you."Sylna smiles up at 9, already standing on her own by then."You've done a lot for me already." She then looked back at Konor and continued, "We should listen to them, dad, I think they can be trusted. And the gods know we can't keep pushing blindly the way things have been going lately."
As Konor considered the princess's words several royal guard arrived at the room and began securing the assassin immediately with a single nod from Konor himself. As they bound him in irons they removed his helmet and mask to ensure he would not be easily confused for another guard. Beneath the mask they revealed the assassin was a much younger looking man then one would first imagine. He seemed human by all appearances, clean shaven, even his hair was cut to be incredibly short, nearly bald. Quickly the guards ushered him out of the room, heading off to the dungeon presumably.
Once the assassin is taken away, the large goliath turns to the rest of the group as he speaks,"Very well, it would be best for all of us to speak on this matter, but for all our sakes it's better if as few people as possible know about this. We will setup a meeting for later, tonight if possible. For now, if you don't mind, I have an assassin to deal with."
With that Konor begins making his way out of the room, leaving behind two pairs of guards. One set to stay behind and make sure no other assassins attack the princess, while the other pair are there to escort the party back out of the castle.
Meanwhile back at the gala...
