The scuffling behind the door stops, then you hear footsteps walking towards you. The door opens slowly, and a human woman with striking blue eyes is looking out at you, her eyes narrowed. "You 'found' boxes of my supplies?" she asks, almost growling.
"Yes, madam. We were escorting a wagon of supplies to Barthen's store here in Phandalin, when we were attacked by a group of goblins..." [Kierro explains the rest of their journey in detail, including finding Sildar. He is careful to tell every relevant detail, as to not withhold the truth.] "...once we defeated the goblin leader, we found that he had several crates of supplies that bear the Lionshield Coster's symbol on it; we presumed that they had been stolen from caravans that were delivering the supplies to you. Have you noticed any shipments of supplies not arriving recently?" Kierro asks.
The woman looks you up and down and then over to the wagon and the rest of the waiting party. Seeing the loaded wagon, her eyes light up and she turns her head and bellows. "Boys! Get out here and help get this wagon unloaded! Our missing goods have appeared!" She opens the door all the way, and you see her fully. She is a human woman, older, with dark brown hair silvered with gray, braided up into a neat pile on her head. She is dressed in fairly simple clothes, breeches and a tunic, but you see at least two knives gleaming in her belt.
"I thank you greatly for returning my goods," she says, stepping out of the building. As she does, two large human men appear and without a word, head over to the wagon to begin unloading the crates bearing the lion symbol. She looks the party over again, slowly, and then nods, as if deciding something. "You seem competent. Some advice - avoid the Sleeping Giant tavern and any Redbrands you see. Nothing but trouble," she says. "If you need any gear, come back here. Barthen's carries a lot of things, but not everything."
The two large men step into the building with the last of the crates. She turns to follow them inside, pulling the door behind her. Before she pulls it closed, she leans around it. "Don't forget - avoid trouble. After you deliver to Barthen's, head to the inn. Toblen will take good care of you." She nods at the party and pulls the door closed.
[OOC: ok so 8.5 hours of driving in constant traffic yesterday and finally home, lord I am never doing that drive again, will just fly next time. OK, back to my regularly schedule activities.]
Victor is amused at the while interaction and then speaks up after the door is closed. "Did we even get a chance to introduce ourselves? I will have to make my way back to her as I found her quite fascinating, I am sure she has some stories to tell. So off to Sildar I assume?"
Torwen looks at the party and says: "Aye, lets visit Sildar before we return the wagon and Gundrens supplies. We have Sildar's saddle and saddle bags in the wagon that need to be returned to him."
The party sets off for the Townmaster's Hall, which is catty-corner from the Lionshield Coster. As you approach, Sildar steps out of the door. He glances at the party, then smiles. "Well met, good fellows!" he says jovially. "I was just on my way to the inn, thinking you'd all decided to sleep in this morning," he says, smiling.
He turns back to the door, opening it and gesturing for you all to follow him in. "Let's talk inside," he says. He leads you inside and then into a small office. "Come in, come in, and close the door," he says.
He walks over to the desk in the room and sits in the chair behind it. "I want to thank you again for rescuing me from those goblins. Truly, a service that deserves a reward." He reaches into the desk and pulls out a small pouch. "Please, take this with my thanks." He hands the pouch over.
"Now, since you seem to be capable adventurers, I was hoping you'd be willing to assist me." He looks at each of you, a serious look on his face. "I came to Phandalin to look for a missing friend - a wizard who came here to do some research and has now gone missing." He pauses, a sad look coming over his face. "And on the way here, I have lost yet another friend. So, I am hoping that you all will be willing and able to help. Iarno, my friend, is still missing and I need to remain here to try and find him. However, the Lords' Alliance is willing to pay for assistance with some of the other issues - namely, locating the castle our goblin friends mentioned and ridding the area of the goblin menace. There are also several locals who are in need of assistance with various tasks and are willing to pay."
He smiles wryly and says, "Even the Townsmaster has a job for you, if you're interested." He clears his throat and stands up. "I won't keep you," he says, "I'm sure you need to deliver Gundren's goods to Barthen. I've got some business to take care of myself, but leave word for me here or at the inn. Again, thank you for your service." He moves around to the door of the office and opens it, gesturing for you all to exit. "Until next we meet," he says, following you out of the building and heading towards the Lionshield Coster.
Torwen looks at Sildar and says: " Thank you Sildar but, before we go we need to return your saddle and bags from your horse. We have them on the cart along with Gundrins. What would you like to be done with them? I for one will help you but, I will let the others speak for themselves. Also, have you heard anything about the hoodlums that are running wild in town. Apparently they have even murdered a man in broad daylight and nothing was done about it."
Victor looks a bit skeptical and then seems to settle his resolve, "I came out of the city for some adventure and research and so far fate has not let me down, I am in to help out where help is needed. Let's do this, though I think we might want to possible deal with the menace of the town as then we can assure a safe place to rest if we ever need it."
Sildar stops and turns back at Torwen's words. "I'm so sorry, I'd forgotten all about my things. Just leave them with Toblen at the inn - he'll take care of them." He frowns, then says, "I've heard a few rumors about ruffians, but nothing about a murder. I'll look into it, but if you find out anything else, please let me know. After you stop at Barthen's, head back to the inn. I'll try to meet you there for lunch. Perhaps we can discuss our plans then." He waves good-naturedly and then turns around and heads across the road.
You all head north up the road towards Barthen's Provisions at the edge of town. You pull up in front of the large building. Inside, the building is fully stocked with all kinds of goods and provisions. The shelves are loaded with ropes, candles, lanterns, dry goods, and much more. It seems Barthen sells a little bit of everything, with the exception of weapons and armor. As you walk in, a smiling young man greets you. "Welcome to Barthen's! Can I help you find something today?" he asks.
Kierro - you knock on the door, and from the inside, you hear, "We're not open! Come back in a few hours!"
"Miss Linene! We found some boxes of supplies that we believe might have been stolen from you, and we are here to return them." he calls out.

Faywin says to the group " These Redbrands sure have these towns folk spooked, but we should prolly get over and see what Sildar has for us."

To Barthen's then.

Can I help you find something today?" he asks.
"Hello Barthen. We have a delivery of supplies for you from Waterdeep." Kierro says. He helps unload the crates of supplies.
The young man smiles at you. "Oh, I'm not Barthen!" he says. "I'm Thistle. Barthen's in the back. Do you need to speak with him?"
"Oh. My apologies, then, Thistle. We have a delivery of supplies for Mr. Barthen." Kierro replies.
Torwen looks at the young man and says: "Yes, if you don't mind we would like to speak with him please."
