The hour passes uneventfully as you sit upon the balcony, in a shaft capped on both ends with swirling transdimensional storms. The chains in the center continue to clatter as they move up and down, driving the massive floating gear below. The purpose and function of this shaft, chains, and gear seem beyond your comprehension. Eventually, the group, feeling a bit rested, decides to move on, and Sickle turns into a large rat, and waddles down the crawlspace. He arrives on the other end, seeing the contraption. There appears to be no immediate danger. Mal follows, and then the rest of the group, with Grenk squeezing his way through the 3 foot by 2 foot space rather uncomfortably. The crystal ship sits on the balcony behind you.
You all arrive in the room with the Armillary Sphere a few moments later. This chamber contains a bronze apparatus centered on a hinged arm. Slowly rotating within the arm is a 14-foot-diameter globe decorated by a topographic map of landforms and oceans. Concentric rings of brass constrain the device, all rotating and bearing their own lesser spheres. One of those spheres has sharp points and appears sunlike. Carvings of tall, headless humanoids decorate the walls of the room. Now that you're here and watching it, you recognize portions of the topographical map on the sphere....they resemble sections of maps of Faerun that you've seen in the past.
As Mal takes a few steps towards it to take a look, the apparatus suddenly swings around, its rings rotating out of the way as the surface of the globe peels back to reveal a dark, hollow interior. Inside this cavity is a padded bronze chair with levers built into its armrests.
She doesn't spot any other traps, but this is a complicated contraption, so...who knows.

Silas glances around, looking for something out of the ordinary...aside from this entire room and everything in it. He notices a slight vibration in the orb with the pointy parts sticking out of it that represents the sun....but then it's still again. Otherwise....he notices nothing unusual.
Badger looks at the device. Well....you probably pull those levers, and ..... the planets and sun probably rotate all around the planet in different ways. He's clever.....he's sure he figured it out.

Sickle muses, "The thing is...what if that is actually tied to something really big...those chains..." He trails off looking around at the small entrance to the room, and the statues.

Badger is robbed of his man-splaining opportunity, as Mal hops in the chair, the door to the sphere swings closed automatically, and the rings lower around it, setting the machine in motion. Badger leaps back to avoid being hit by a moving sphere or arm.
Mal, from inside, as soon as the door closes, the sphere surface seems to turn transparent, as if made of glass, though from those on the outside, it's opaque and you can't tell what's happening on the inside. Mal easily determines what each rod and lever does and begins moving the planets, moon and sun around. They move on their own, and you can accelerate them, reverse them, or move independent celestial bodies to any position you like.
There is no button or lever for opening the door to get out, but, as everything has reacted based on your mere action......'approach and door opens'.... 'sit down and door closes'....you figure confidently that simply standing up from the chair will open the door and let you out.
As the planets and moons and sun begin moving however, once Mal is inside....everyone outside notes the sphere representing the sun seems to start vibrating...and then....it explodes!! Out of the space from within, which was about 2 feet across, a massive demon creature explodes out from within.
Everyone roll initiative.
Demon: 7
If you go before the demon, take your turn. Mal, as soon as you stand up, the door will indeed open, FYI. The demon is currently FLYING, and is 10 feet up in the air.
Silas is only slightly surprised as he was expecting some kind of event to happen, a demon was a little out of scope of expectations. "Be still" Silas casts Hold Monster on the demon.

The feeling of deja vu lingers, and Badger feels like he is automatically playing out a scripted scenario that he has no control over. Lifting his crystal ball yet again, and viewing the refracted view of the monster through the glass, Badger concentrates on the image of a spotted green toad...
Polymorph on the monster. DC 17 WIS save but using second Portent roll (which is also 14) as the saving throw roll (replaces any advantage roll too, if such should so happen to apply)

Badger can't help himself and saunters over to Mal so he can man-splain the machine and it's controls to her (based on his best guess of course).
