“We could probably use grappling hooks and rope. And we need to make sure the guard they send is capable of bringing the larger ship in as well as being able to sail the fishing boat.”
Orgen, sits quietly for a while then says, "I want a great sword, oil, and war paint, I would also like to have my plate mail that we were fixing up, but we need to blacken it. Artificer, do you know a chemical concoction that can create fog?"
"I can make a number of different substances with alchemy. Most notable Alchemist's Fire (flask) and there has been talk in the community before about various other substances, most notably a stick that can emit smoke."
OOC: Of course these other things are items from 3.5 edition and include Smoke stick, Thunderstone, Tangelfoot bag, etc. Heck there is even a [item[Grenade, Smoke[/item] in the DnD equipment guide. All this at the DM discretion of course.
OOC: Cool. I've never been a fan of gunpowder in D&D, it being a fantasy world and the laws of physics being, in my humble opinion, different there (at least in the main fantasy settings). After all, that's what magic is for. But I forgot about the alchemical arts so...cool!
"If my plan works out right there will be little to no fight, and we capture a bunch of smugglers alive, if not, then there is less chance of us getting pincushioned by a bunch of arrows. Also, there is no telling what type of weaponry they could have on the ship. would you like to row up to that in just a rowboat?"
(OOC: I do allow [Tooltip Not Found] but it is a magic item, not a normal item, so is not available to you at this point. Same goes with most of the alchemical items, unless you are making those yourself. Regular equipment kits, weapons, armor, or equipment such as tents and such is allowed.)
“I believe we could make use of a fog spell if known and blind our enemy while boarding them on the sea side. An alchemist’s fire could then be thrown towards the steering while another team breaks the rudder of the ship leaving the steering useless. While the smugglers are still surprised we could try and rip the sail causing the boat to drift.” Pausing for a second to think of what to do after the initial surprise Alex says, “After we strip them of leaving we could the try to capture them alive. However, killing then may be something we would be forced to do.”
OOC: I am just saying my idea of a plan out as a suggestion if anyone has a better idea.
"Are the sailors lizardfolk? I thought the cargo was meant for them, not that they were the sailors. It is a plan. I like the use of fog to get to the ship after that, there are a lot of moving parts."
"Also, if we manage to capture the crew, we may not have a way to get them to shore, since the ship will be disabled."
"If we hit them until they stop moving, we can sort everything out then."
Rober considered, and then shook his head. "As long as we can't retreat, they have control over the battlefield...that works both ways. I agree with the fog and the maybe the fire to distract part of the crew while we board, but not the rest. It is not easy to break the rudder of a sailing vessel. It is the single most important part of the ship so it is robust. Here's what I suggest. We use the fog and the fire to get aboard and then try to take the ship."
"I can get started on cooking up the fire but I currently have no way of creating fog," Feanaro comments. "A really good plan though and we should use as much of it as we can."
Hector thinks, though it is not his strong suit.

“Some explosives and smoke bombs maybe of good use. Maybe some flash bombs would work too.”
OOC: explosives? Is that even a thing on the Sword Coast? Or smoke bombs?

OOC: I knew of Alchemist’s Fire, but forgot it’s name. And I should clarify that I just got confused about which edition the items were from. My bad.
"If we shroud them in smoke, will they be just as invisible to us as we are to them?"

“What is your plan, then?” Rober was curious but not committed to any course yet.

Orgen's full plate is ready by this point.

“If we are to capture the ship then we need a captain. We should see if the two people our contractor is sending use can sail a large boat.”
"I can get started on cooking up the fire but I currently have no way of creating fog," Feanaro comments. "A really good plan though and we should use as much of it as we can."
"Does anyone have the ability to create fog, through a spell or something similar?" Rober asks.
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
"Capturing the ship in one piece might be good for the company." Quilla mentions. "Seems like a good thing to have at our disposal..."
