The wounds seem to heal up, but there still seems to be a disconnect between brain and body, even as they try to give you a cunning wink. “Y’kno, therse a lot of us - lot of triscksy gobbos, an bugbears and buggybears wif brains inna hed. Maruck, Ruvlo - you’re both familiar enough with goblinoids, head injuries and healing that whatever has scrambled this bugbear’s mind, it wasn’t this encounter. Particularly, the way he’s slurring his words doesn’t match with how concussions work. Nevertheless, all three of you get the feeling that he’s being truthful enough - that there’s a lot of goblins around, that they’re afraid of this golem that’s owned by this other gang, the Undertakers.
"Whatever happened to this one struck with something that scrambled his mind... We should be ready to stay alert." Maruck says as he looks to the others.
Minda says, "Let him guide us to his clan and lets take it from there. This place seems far more dangerous than I imagined. We have been spotted by someone, attacked by ghosts and now spied on by this guy. And we have barely gotten a few hundred feet in."
She looks the bugbear in the eye,"Guide us to your clan." She unties him as well, "I am Minda. What is your name?"
Stretching out his long, long arms, the bugbear says "I'm Mreg-Barzuh - t'is way to 't gang"
He leads you thirty feet down the corridor to the second passageway. Passing by, you see the first passageway kinks around - you can't see more than 10ft before it turns another corridor. Turning down the second corridor, you can see three doors - two on the left, one on the right - and hear some goblins laughing - they seem to be having fun.
Mreg-Barzuh opens the first door on the left and shouts "oi oi, you lot! Shmmmmarturn up! We got us som new frends, gonna help wid t'unnatakers" There are nine goblins, and they're playing with the yellowed skeleton of a human held together with hairy string. It's trussed up as a marionette and dangling from the ceiling - they're spinning it to make it dance around the room. At his words, they snap to something approaching attention, though one shouts as the skeleton bangs into his back, and two more bugbears come out of the second door.
As they are led to the lair of the other goblins, Maruck will keep his hand near the hilt of his shortswords due to not thinking he would have much time to knock and fire an arrow. As he sees the bone puppet he does his best not to show his disgust.
Minda steps forward, "I'm Minda. Lets get to the point. You have trouble with another clan? We can help. In exchange we want a place to rest for a bit and you to show us the safest way to Skullport. Do we have a deal?"
One of the other bugbears sizes you all up - a long, evaluating look that makes you a little uncomfortable. “Barzuh, these the newcomers? The Undertakers will have seen them come down the Well” His voice is strangely sibilant, not as slurred as Barzuh, but not a normal accent for a goblinoid. Looking back to the group, he adds “I’m Mreg-Hezwel” The Undertakers are to the north of us. You deal with them - take down their flesh golem - an’ Skaz here will show you the way down.” he says, patting a particularly small and scowling goblin girl on the head as he does so “Dunno the way to Skullport though - us don’t go past the goblin Bazaar down next level. May be that you can get a guide from the market, if you’ve trade worth it.”
”For rest - you can bunk in our den, or there’s an empty room back that way. Take your pick.”
Latest map. Until I get transparent layers and pins working properly in WorldAnvil, I’ll track progress like this - rather than ask you to make your own maps. Green path is your route, red smears are fights, blue is your current location. The three rooms branching off this corridor are the ones that make up the den, or you can claim the room on the other side of the hall of mirrors.
Taj is still feels drained after the earlier encounter and, at the mention of rest, she feels instantly weary. She'd rather stay with the group, wherever they choose.
Maruck will look to the rest that are with him, not trusting these goblins since they are nothing like his own tribe. "What do you think? Is this a deal that is fair?"
Assuming all of the goblin was translated to Common. “There is something weird with the bugbear we found. Don’t trust him. These ones though, they don’t seem too bad, although you can never be sure. Maybe we could see what those Undertakers are about, they could be more helpful.”, Wendy speaks in a hushed voice, trying to speak so that only members of his party would hear him. He was feeling quite energized and awake, rest would be always welcome, but he could still go on for hours.
Minda says, "Lets rest a bit and then see about the Undertakers and the flesh golem. We are in unknown lands and can't really choose our allies just yet."
Turning back to the bugbears, "We will do this. What else can you tell us about the golem? Have you fought it? What hurts it the most?"
Wendy, give me a stealth or deception roll to see if you were able to keep your voice low enough not to be heard.
Hezwel responds “tried once - it went crazy, frothing at the mouth like that spiky dwarf we had down here a while back. Us weapons din’ seem to hurt it, except Mizin, he had a magic sword he got off this elf one time. After it’d killed all the Gobs in reach, it started punching the wall like it wanted to kill it too. Then Gaz went up and tried to stab it in the back - it grabbed him and started hitting the wall with him! Din’ like fire, but us got no booyahgs up here, so us just keepin out of the way. Might be that us get some help from down below, but don wanna lose face with the hobnobs - you all ken what they’re like with pride, and I don wanna get promoted to surface duty. You do it for us, we gain face, dun get head smashed into wall, dun hafter deal with that thing again. And you get safe passage from us and all the rest of us on this level, an’ even a nice little guide to smooth the way to the bazaar.”

Maruck nods even as part of him wonders if they had caused damage to the mind of the Bugbear.

Ruvlo is excited for more adventure and peeks into the other room, then the den, then down the other two halls. He seems hyper.
