Consider Cimeri paying for the Charter from Flynn's money (if something is left after we bought supplies). Short rest only is harsh! Especially on casters.
You find yourselves led by Azaka through the city gates and into the Old City.
Three ancient, vine-covered ziggurats tower above the crumbling ward. The whole district is a juxtaposition of ancient and decaying (but still occupied) stone structures interspered with flimsy new huts and longhouses of bamboo and thatch. Passing under a rope bridge between two of the ziggurats and before the end of the stone-block trench dug into the ground know as Executioner's Run she turns north out of the inhabited area.
You walk along a muddy track on the side of a massive refuse pit; the stench is unbearable until you finally reach the edge of civilization and take your first steps into the jungles of Chult.
It strikes you just how alone you are as you step onto a hidden track that leads a short distance down the cliffs to the waters edge; the noise of the city is swallowed by the fronds of foliage and are quickly drowned out by the buzzing of insects and chirruping of reptiles and other beasts. Even with bug repellent rubbed thickly over your exposed skin, the insects form clouds around you; you press cloth to your mouth and nose to prevent inhaling them.
A small cove appears at the end of the track; hidden under some branches is Azaka's canoe. She flips it over and thrusts it into the water.
She points for Celtra to get into the bow and Bryn to the middle of the canoe. Fulcra and Cimeri sit between Celtra and Bryn; Taman sits behind her and Azaka takes up the stern. She hands paddles to Celtra and Bryn and keeps one for herself. With a quick shove and a leap, she's in the canoe as you begin paddling along the edge of the cliffs to reach the delta of the river Soshenstar.
You paddle for much of the day along the cliffs; it's cooler here in the bay and you're thankful for the breeze coming off the ocean, even though the waves make paddling more difficult. The rythmic shushing of the waves is peaceful, almost pleasant. You start to wonder if this excursion won't be that bad after all.
As the sun lowers to the horizon, Azaka skillfully locates a tiny gravel 'beach', more like a landing. The cliffs tower above you, gulls flying to and fro overhead from one perch to the next in the rock. The beach is roughly forty feet by twenty feet, surrounded by the cliffs on three sides and the ocean on the last side. It seems a wonderfully secure location and begin to prepare camp.
[Please detail how you set up camp and I'll assume this is what will happen every night going forward; also detail any watches you want to set]
[Day 3: 34 bug repellent each: full rations (35): three raincatchers - full canteens]
Cimeri was not doing much the whole day, and after helping to unload everything, collecting some wood - even if they were not going to cook, an insect repellent Incense in the campfire would be useful (unless Azaka overrules for security reasons), and setting up the rain-catchers (that could as well work as tents?), she would offer to stay the first 2h (?) shift.
(Does that include the rain catcher that Taman has as well?)
Taman would look over the camp upon landing, casting guidance on himself and then investigating the area carefully to make sure there is nothing dangerous with the camp itself (such as setting up camp in a gator's nest or something...) He would then help with gathering firewood, if they even can do so, and preparing any food they are going to be sharing. He also would help set up the rain catchers, insuring they have water for refilling their waterskins from that day.
(Pretty much Taman is helping out around the place, and will be casting guidance on whomever is doing anything they could need that added benefit from Azuth on.)
He would take first or last watch, and share it with his familiar. After his watch is done he would cast guidance on whomever has the next watch, or whomever has the first watch if he takes the last one.
Bryn would stretch out her arms after a long day of paddling. As the others get the rain catchers ready and gather some wood, the druid would also do laps around the camp, to familiarize herself with where they are and what plants and herbs are available to them, as well as keep an eye out for any threats. She'd gather anything of interest, food or medicinal, and of course any extra firewood along the way. Returning to the camp, the half-giant would start (or assist with starting) a fire if no one else has yet.
Once a fire is going, Bryn would identify any plants/herbs with her borrowed botanist journal. If there is anything she can make that would be more nutritious than their rations and/or her goodberries, she would suggest and/or attempt to find a way to include it in their meals. If there's nothing worth noting edible wise, she'd distribute some rations with some [Tooltip Not Found] tonight. She'd study and/or review the medical herbs/notes as she'd eat.
After her meals settled, the half-giant would pick a peaceful spot to meditate in the wild to align herself with nature. She'd also take some time to practice with her spear, getting a feel for the space around her and her weapon before returning back to the camp for rest. Bryn would offer to take the final watch as she enjoyed the very early morning. She feels as though she could learn a lot 'watching the jungle waken', but of course would fill in the space where needed.
Fulcra's camp routine, seeing what everyone else is doing, is similar. He'll help search the area for any danger, and just check out the lay of the land immediately around camp. Once it's safe, he'll try to setup his hammock, maybe only 1 foot of the ground, with his tent over top of it. Best of both worlds he figures. If there's no place to setup his hammock, he'll bedroll it.
He'll help by lighting the fire once the wood has been gathered, flames emerging from nothing as he focuses his attention on it.
The rain catcher is setup after that. Then he'll find the nearest shaded location, lay down a blanket, check it for vipers or dangerous bugs, then sit down and meditate for a few minutes.
He'll eat some food if they're on rations, offering to prepare the rations a bit so that they're a bit tastier. People will be left with tangy and flavourful foods with unusual and subtle flavours from Thay. He'll also carefully clean his boots and clothes each night, brushing his hand across patches at a time to leave it clean of dirt, stains, or debris.
After that, he gets to bed pretty quickly, unless he has first watch. For watch, he sits on a blanket in the middle of camp, his eyes scanning well into the darkness of night (120 ft darkvision), and his ears perked for danger.
Fulcra recommends a rotating set of watches, so that different people can get the anchor watches each night.
In the morning, he does breakfast, offering to spice up rations a bit, and then cleans his cooking gear by the side of camp (it always comes away very clean). He'll gather up any water in his waterskin, then pack everything up, carefully packing things with a bit of OCD.
He cools his waterskin throughout the day, ensuring he always has cool refreshing water to drink and offers to cool people's water. (it stays cool for an hour at a time)
With his mask over his face during the day, his mouth refuses to stop moving. He'll regularly ask Azaka about things he sees, hoping to learn as much as possible about the wilderness before his ignorance kills him.

What's the difference between a Wizard and a Sorcerer? Class.
Celtra was use to paddling; she was a fisherman by trade and similar boats were not uncommon near the coast and overall she had enjoyed the ride. After landing, she helped with camp, setting up her own rain catcher, lending her mess kit and supplies for dinner. With any spare time that she would have, she'd find long branches and try to strip them into makeshift spears, use for for self defense, stopping calvary, or roasting an animal over the fire.
When night came, she would volunteer to for which ever watch wasn't called. She let them know that she didn't have darkvision but also didn't require 8 hours of consecuative sleep. She was fine break up evening.
For Cimeri, raised on the principal "if you think the food is not tasty, you are having your meal 2 days earlier than you were supposed to", spicy food was still something she truly had to get used in Chult (local food too, of course). But she was learning - among other things. She did not ask questions, but listen Azaka'a answers to Fulcra, and listen well. She, herself, was not only new to the jungle, but to travelling in general. Spartan lifestyle helps but only so far.
//Wet jungle - Azaka would have to explain, that if one wants to live, that "one" is better get used to spicy food eaten at boiling temperature//
//Btw, if Fulcra and Taman extend the courtesy of Mending to the rest of the party, they would save lives of those, trying to wash the clothes in the river (considering river fauna) and ease their personal suffering from the smelly clothes of other (not to mention the party would leave less trails for the rest of the fauna behind). Just saying :)
Cimeri woke up at the dawn, with first light as she used to. At this coolest and probably most pleasant hour of the day, she quietly made the morning workouts (with and without weapon) - if she is not in shape she is completely useless - washed up (if river allows it, otherwise a bit of water from her water skin will do) and was ready to pack the camp and go. She could cook (and she did in her life, of course) but ... most likely the party would not be able to tell "cooked" ration from "uncooked".
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
[OOC: OK so I see a way to do this w/o dice manipulation errors. Live and Learn. Let me explain this since it's the first time. Group needs a total of 6 lbs of food and 12 gal of water. You easily did it this time. But circumstances can alter these rolls, and if someone is injured or needs to do something other than forage, it can get ugly. You can keep ten lbs of extra food in a sack in the canoe. Water gets drunk and kept in canteens so at the end of the TOMORROW you'd only need 7.5 gal of water because of the water in the rain catchers (all three are included). As we go this will all evolve and be easier to track.]
Over a small fire that evening, you enjoy fish caught from the sea and some fruits and berries from the jungle. Azaka tells tales of Ubtao, the old god of Chult who was known as the dinosaur king. She shows no fear of even the most terrible of the great lizards and claims that all the dinosaurs are friends of Ubtao and Chultans. There is awe and reverence in her voice.
With aching backs, you rise and pack up camp; sleep outside the city is difficult indeed. If it's not raining, there's the bugs, and if no bugs there's the amazing cacophony of amphibians and reptiles. Even on the beach, with crashing surf, it was loud. You continue along the coast, through the river delta and finally by evening you are in the jungle proper. Those of you with less experience with nature are terrified; it's far darker and insidious in the jungle than in most forests you've ever been in. There seem to be creatures everywhere, even in your pack and bedroll, and there's a constant feeling of surveilance, as if the jungle itself is watching you.
[Food forage Total: 17 lbs
[Water forage Total: 18 gal]
[Bryn journal check (if needed): 20 and next day's rain caught: 1.5 gal]
Bryn finds what are called Sinda berries in a bush with high branches. Getting the full foraging amount is only possible if someone climbs the cliff side, into the bush and collects the berries. It is said that Sinda berries, while bitter, are nutritious and even can help fight off disease and poison.
[Day 4: 33 bug repellent each: full rations (35): three raincatchers - full canteens]
Terrified ... no. Overwhelmed - yes, many times so! Everything was "grand" about Chult: overcrowded cities (well, one city, so far but truly "over-" in every aspect of it's life), overgrown forest (Cimeri was wandering if one actually can move inside the forest - from the river jungle looked like one impenetrable wall), the wide green murky river with too big of a splashes here and there to suspect some peaceful school of small fish.
Traveling by water was not so bad, meditative even, if not for the assaulting waves of sounds and smells. Having nothing else to do, Cimeri concentrated on getting used to just that - getting used to surroundings: listening the sounds, learning to separate them and pushing the most constant to the background, so that eventually she could hear the difference in the melody of the Jungle.
Taman spends the time in the canoe casting guidance on those keeping look out for jungle dangers, as well as meditating on the things they know at this point. He feels out of his element, but tries to remain confident, as much for the group as himself.
It's been approximately eight minutes since Fulcra last spoke, as the lapping water of the river sploshes irregularly against the bow of the canoe. The paddles dip with a plop, sweeps with a bubbling swoosh, then drips a splash of water as they are moved back and forth regularly. A paddle accidentally hits the water early on entry sending a small spray of water onto Fulcra's leather chest piece. It's part of being in a canoe he's learned, and says nothing, his butt wet from the tiny trickles of water moving about the bottom of the craft.
Somewhere in the jungle something shrieks loudly, its cry echoing off the water loudly. Fulcra speaks up, "In Thay there are these bats that come out at night that are only as big as your hand, but there are thousands of them. Their combined squeaking making this strange echoing shriek across the land. Parents tell their children it's the night hawks, and they'll steal them away if they don't go to sleep. Kids believe their parents because kids are gullible and stupid." He glances at Cimeri, "No offence intended. Anyway, I feel like kids in this jungle probably have all sorts of reasons to go to sleep." He glances at the edge of the canoe where a shiny black leech is sliming its way over the edge. He makes a disgusted face. A spectral hand appears, picking up the thing, and tossing it into the water. He shivers spasmically. "Back in Thay, in the spring, we get the biggest slugs. Me and my friend Rae would toss them into the road to get run over by wagons. When a wagon wheel would hit one, it would explode all over the path. It was disgusting and very satisfying."
He lapses into silence again, the birds and monkeys in the jungle filling the air with chirps and yells. The water laps gently against the side of the canoe. A paddle drips across the water before being brought back down into the river with a gentle splash.
"I might be gullible and not that bright,"Cimeri smiled at Fulcra's back in front of her, "but I am no kid. Still, it would be easier if I knew who or what is making all that noises. And yet I think I could learn to love that land. It's a bit scary but amazing!"She though for a little and then asked with a concern in her voice "did you really kill poor slugs just for fun? It's terrible. Even a garden pest has it's place, and their lives were wasted." She sighed "As you said, kids are stupid and can be very cruel if not taught properly."
Cimeri managed to restrain herself from quoting Tao Te Chun - perfectly captivated audience would have to listen but something was telling here, would not appreciate teachings just yet. Master Ziman knew how to explain all the things there are, and one day she will learn how to do it too. For now it was just the river and the jungle.
“Su-monster,” Azaka comments from the stern. “Like a monkey but... more dangerous. Jump into your mind to scare you. Made an expedition member I was leading run away so quick he jumped right off a cliff. He was handsome too. Shame. “
[OOC: this is happening in the canoe the next day but Bryn / Celtra can still jump in back at the campsite with the Sinda berries if they want...]
