With her usual quick elven eyesight and reflexes, Kess easily spots the spider creature hiding above her in the tree. Taking careful aim with her longbow, she releases the string and sends an arrow into the creature's chest, which brings a hissing howl of pain from the strange thing.
A moment later, Krackle conjures a ball of magical flame and hurls it at the mass of spiders that's creeping quickly towards the immobilized dwarf. It hits the swarm and burns part of that section of web that's encasing the maple tree, singing a small section of the swarm. A number of spiders are instantly cooked, but the swarm keeps advancing.
Lumen moves toward Chrys, trying to draw the swarm chasing him a bit closer to the swarm advancing down on Chrys, in order to attempt to be able to get as many of them within a 20-foot radius sphere centered on a point 20 feet ahead of the group. That's a pretty large area, per the sleep spell.
He doesn't want this swarm to get to Chrys or anyone else, so he releases the spell, which affects 26 hp of bugs.
Bonus action: inspire Chrys for a d6 in the next 10 mins
He then pulls out his longsword and gets ready to stab any centipedes or spiders than get close.
Lumen attempts to draw the centipede swarm closer to the mass of spiders, and then he casts his Sleep spell. Unfortunately, nothing happens. All of the creatures keep advancing and creeping closer to him, and you realize that for some reason, these tiny beasts must somehow be immune to magical charms.
Chrys is currently restrained by the web, and would need to spend an action trying to break free (STR DC 11). She can use the inspiration on her ability check.
Noticing that her arm catches on the web as she tries to lift the hammer, she growls. "This ain't stoppin' me,"she says, tearing free of the sticky webbing with a few quick jerks of her arms and legs.
Lumen's just stunned and dejected, looking at the swarms totally ignoring his spell.
OOC: Guessing the spider-person is too far away to be affected? I'd put the center of the point 20 feet ahead of the group, behind the swarms, so that Lumen and Chrys are just out of range, so assumedly the spell is closer to the spider-person or any other creatures near the spider-person?
Yes, the spider person was up in the tree, and from Lumen's vantage point, in the opposite direction of the area he'd line up to cast the sleep spell.
With brute strength, Chrys is able to rip her arms and legs free of the spider web and completely escape its bonds. As she does, the spider humanoid leaps down from the tree and targets Kess, who just stuck it with an arrow. Obviously wounded and angry, the creature launches at her, attempting to bite into her flesh with its razor sharp jaws. Attack: 15 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. Fortunately, she's ready for the attack and parries it away with a swift backhand, using the flat of her blade.
However, it follows with a terrible and dextrous move against her, shooting a thick cord of webbing material right at her neck. Attack: 17 Damage: 4. The web lashes and sticks around her throat, and as it does, the creature yanks it hard, constricting her neck so that she us unable to breathe. Kess is effectively grappled and cannot breathe. On her next turn, she can try and escape the grapple, but until she does so, she continues to be choked in such a way that she cannot get any air.
Escaping a Grapple. Kess must succeed on a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check of DC 12.
Vesper’s arcane missiles slam into the creature with a flash of light and an crackling explosion of sound and pain. (Vesper, roll a d20 please.)
Over by the maple tree, just as Chrys is able to free herself from the bonds of the web, the encroaching mass of spiders is upon her. Hundreds of the tiny, black arachnids begin crawling all over her body, working their way into every crevice in her armor, and under her clothing, biting at her with maddening and relentlessly annoying intent. Attack: 15 Damage: 13
A few feet away, Lumen is beset in a very similar attack by the horde of small centipedes, who begin crawling up his legs, biting at him with hundreds of tiny, buy sharp painful pincers. Attack: 5 Damage: 11
Fortunately, as absolutely annoying as they are, both Chrys and Lumen are able to grit their teeth and bear the pain, without being succumbing to any real damage.
Top of Round 2: Kess, Lumen, Chrys and Krackle are all up.
Lumen drops to the ground and begins rolling on the ground in a long tumble over one of the candles, hoping to crush or burn the bugs swarming over him. As he moves along the forest floor, he casts prestidigitation to try to clean himself of them (or immediately snuff any fire that hits him).
In an extremely awkward attempt to bash herself with her own hammer to try and kill as many of the spiders as possible, Chrys manages to smash a huge number of them underneath the head of Due Process, the price being a number of minor bruises on her own body, as well.
Lumen, I’ll treat your action as an unarmed fire attack, as if you were using a torch for a weapon. Go ahead and make your combat rolls.
Unfortunately, the humanoid spider thing dodges the ball of fire that emits from Krackle's hand.
FYI: Kess has a thick cord of webbing around her neck, and is currently grappled, strangled and unable to breathe. (See above) She would need to make an Athletics or Acrobatics check of DC 12 to escape the grapple.
Effectively, she is suffocating, and can remain conscious for a number of rounds equal to her CON modifier +1. In addition, any attacks on her part would be at disadvantage, and any attacks madd against her while she is grappled are made at advantage.
Yes, we'll use Krackle's previous attack.
Round 1

(Chrys and Lumen are both up.)

Noticing that the swarm seems resistant to magic, Chrys sighs and draws out her warhammer. "Ol' fashioned way, then," she grunts.
Advance and attack the swarm: 12
Damage: 12
If it doesn't hit, inspiration: 2
OOC: Oof.
Chrys is currently restrained by the web, and would need to spend an action trying to break free (STR DC 11). She can use the inspiration on her ability check.
Oh, whoops! Well let's do that then:

(let's save the inspiration for later XD)

Escaping a Grapple. Kess must succeed on a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check of DC 12.
It is now Vesper's turn.
Vesper continues to put distance between her and the swarms while firing three magic missiles against the humanoid spider.

"Ahh, that stings!" Chrys yells, wincing and taking her hammer and thudding it into the densest mass of the swarm of spiders, trying to thin them out.
Attack: 19
Damage: 9
Krackle would produce flame once more, backing up away from the creatures before throwing a ball of flame towards the spider humanoid.
Attack: 8 Damage: 7
In an extremely awkward attempt to bash herself with her own hammer to try and kill as many of the spiders as possible, Chrys manages to smash a huge number of them underneath the head of Due Process, the price being a number of minor bruises on her own body, as well.

Unfortunately, the humanoid spider thing dodges the ball of fire that emits from Krackle's hand.
And someone can take Kess’s turn as well.
The main hope was to squish them with Lumen's body weight, so I'll roll a 20+3 which works for dex and str: 15
(oh, LOL... I thought there were swarms of spiders on the ground still, too! that's ok, I'll stick with that action XD)
Kess attack 1: Attack: 16 Damage: 10
Kess attack 2: Attack: 10 Damage: 3
FYI: Kess has a thick cord of webbing around her neck, and is currently grappled, strangled and unable to breathe. (See above) She would need to make an Athletics or Acrobatics check of DC 12 to escape the grapple.
Effectively, she is suffocating, and can remain conscious for a number of rounds equal to her CON modifier +1. In addition, any attacks on her part would be at disadvantage, and any attacks madd against her while she is grappled are made at advantage.
So, someone needs to edit Kess’s turn.
(OOC: Can the attack be redirected to the webbing that is choking her?)
