The creature ont he stairs attacks Joetaro... Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: 14 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 20 slashing damage. Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: 13 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 31 piercing damage. Soul-Stealing Gaze. The creature targets one creature it can see within 30 feet of it. If the target can see the creature and isn’t a construct or an undead, it must succeed on a DC 16 Charisma saving throw or reduce its hit point maximum by 9 and give the creature an equal number of temporary hit points. This reduction lasts until the target finishes a short or long rest. The target dies if its hit point maximum is reduced to 0, and if the target is a humanoid, it immediately rises as a ghoul under the creature’s control.

The first attack to hit, if any, will do 3 extra damage as he uses a Maneuvering Attack to allow Lia to move up to half her speed without provoking an opportunity attack.

going to assume those attacks were made with disadvantage. The first strike misses, while the second and third manage to find chinks in the creature's shell.

Merric moves up quickly and quietly, drawing both the Rapier of Warning and the Wicked Blade. Eschewing any vocalizations, he looks over the 2 creatures engaged with his companions and, choosing the best target, attacks from the blind side.
Wicked Blade: Attack: 13 Damage: 13, Sneak Attack 18 X2 if total attack roll is 19 or higher (15+ to crit plus 4 attack bonus).
Rapier: Attack: 15 Damage: 17
ooc: He will attack whichever Umberhulk is menacing Lia. If both are, the one most likely to die.
As he moves in he contacts Whitegaze telepathically to coordinate, grimacing at revealing his ability. "Whitegaze, me friend, I am attacking this one. With a bit'o luck, I may put it down."
EDIT: I messed up the damage rolls for the blades. I told the system to do 4 and 8 damage, not roll a d4 & d8. Please use these, doubled: Wicked Blade: 4 Rapier: 6

(assuming Kale’s after Merric,)
Kale, arriving at the scene, will first try to give Lia Infectious Inspiration:
As a bonus action, a creature (other than yourself) within 60 ft. that can hear you gains an inspiration die (1d12). For 10 minutes, the creature can add it to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. This can be added after seeing the roll, but before knowing the outcome.
Infectious Inspiration
When a creature adds one of your Bardic Inspiration dice to its ability check, attack roll, or saving throw and the roll succeeds: you can use your reaction to grant a free Bardic Inspiration die to a different creature (other than yourself) that can hear you within 60 feet of you. You can use this reaction 5 times per long rest.
„Hold on tight, you know she's a little bit dangerous- She's got what it takes to make ends meet, The eyes of a lover that hit like heat! You know she's a little bit dangerous!“
After seeing that Lia properly hears his tune, Kale focuses on trying to stop the Umber Hulks from attacking by casting hypnotic pattern over them (the hulks must make their save wis dc 18 at disadvantage due to the fochlucan bandore. If they fail, they become incapacitated, negating the confusion gaze effect among other things).
„Get out of my way! Get out of my sight! I won't be walking on thin ice to get through the night!“
He tries to find cover if he can, away from the hulks.

DD, I specifically stated Merric was attacking from the blindside of the umberhulks. Since the Confusion effect is based on eye-contact, wouldn't attacking from the blindside (the back) of the umberhulks prevent that, at least for this round? On a related note, does Blindsense allow Merric to attack effectively with his eyes closed? If so, what penalties, if any, does he suffer?
We will say you get in behind it then, no cha save needed. You also have it flanked with either Whitegaze or Lia, depending on which hulk you went after, so your rolls have advantage. Blindsense lets you close your eyes and fight blind against things in your blindsense area.

Using the wicked blade and the rapier, you easily take down one of hte umber hulks. Lia is now without any umber hulks near her.
Lia kneels back down, slumping in relief. "Thank you..." She gasps out.

The howl badly affects Whitegaze as he seems to age under its effects. 2x10 years.
The first strike misses Whitegaze and he ripostes with a strike of his own, opening him up for the second strike to hit home hard.
