OOC: Any AOO or readied attack will be done nonlethally, just in case this vessel is an innocent man under the influence of Xolor...though Gerrard is still hopeful the man will stop attacking and start speaking with them again.

Gerrard Feldren - Human Noble in Ghosts of Saltmarsh
Kerric Brightblade - Elven Warrior in "Apocalypse"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kei follows Gerrard out of the darkness. He pulls a thin patch from the inside of his jacket and throws it in front of the departing man; it transforms into a ten-foot-square crater in the sandy, rocky ground.
Fleeing man's acrobatics check:1
Concentration check from Peri's blast: 8
The magical darkness vanishes; the man falls into the hole. (Bludgeoning damage:2 )
The man turns and scowls at you. Squirming black tentacles erupt from the ground all around you, grasping and flailing. Dwal, Kei, and Gerrard must make DC13 Dexterity saving throw or take bludgeoning damage and be restrained by the tentacles. (Peri, furthest east, is just outside the field of tentacles. I'll roll for Kei: 7 )
Kei suffers 11bludgeoning damage and isrestrained as the foul tentacles squeeze and batter him. The man tries to scramble out of the far side of the sandy hole - Strength check:14 He fails. Dwal and Gerrard should roll their Dex saves next.

Gerrard:
OOC: Does Gerrard get his readied action? If the man flees his threatened area without taking an action to disengage, he would provoke and attack of opportunity anyway. I will go ahead and roll that before the save just in case.
As the man clearly is not surrendering, Gerrard strikes out with his glowing rapier and tries to hobble the man, but not kill him.
Elegant Rapier: Attack: 9 Damage: 11
When the spell takes effect, Gerrard does his best to dodge the writhing tentacles.

Elegant Rapier: Attack: 16 Damage: 8
When the spell takes effect, Gerrard does his best to dodge the writhing tentacles.
Dexterity Save: 6
(Here's the problem - he neither disengaged nor moved; he fell ten feet down. So no AOO. You may use your readied action, though, but only for a ranged attack.) The tentacles restrain Gerrard and squeeze him for11 bludgeoning damage.
Everyone may act, starting with Gerrard's readied attack (provided it's ranged.)
OOC: Thanks for the explanation. I'll have him throw a dagger and re-roll the attack, since it does different damage dice.
On a hair trigger to attack this man if he continues to act with hostility, Gerrard is surprised when the attacker falls into a pit. As he starts to cast a spell instead of surrender, Gerrard flicks a throwing knife at him, trying to disrupt the spell. (OOC--I know it doesn't work that way with spells in 5e, so that is just for thematic effect).
Attack: 12 Damage: 8
Crushed by the tentacles, Gerrard tries to wriggle free (Dex check? Does acrobatics apply). If he does so successfully, he drops lightly into the pit with the enemy ready to skewer him with both blades (Acrobatics).
Dexterity Check to wriggle free, +2 if Acrobatics applies: 11
If needed, Acrobatics check to land in the pit safely next to the vessel of Xolor: 11
Edit: Ughhh....Should have kept that first attack roll. Hopefully acrobatics skill applies to wriggling out of tentacles--it would just get his roll to a 13 if it does.
You must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 3d6 bludgeoning damage and be restrained by the tentacles until the spell ends. If you start your turn in the area and are already restrained by the tentacles you take another 3d6 bludgeoning damage. If you are restrained by the tentacles you can use your action to make a DC13 Strength or Dexterity check (your choice). On a success, you free yourself.
So it's a straight Dex (and then Dex or Strength) save - no Acrobatics.
So order of events here: 1) Kei, Dwal and Gerrard roll their Dex saves (Kei=fail; Gerrard=fail; Dwal=?) 2) Gerrard gets his readied attack in (will resolve shortly.) New turn: 3) Gerrard may use his action to try to break free. (Bonus actions could theoretically be used to attack, but only at disadvantage if still restrained.) 4) Dwal - ? 5) Kei - Death Save 6) Peri - normal move/actions
Frustrated at being unable to break free, Gerrard throws a knife with his off hand at the man (bonus action, disadvantage).
Throwing Knife: Attack: 20 Damage: 7
OOC: Lucky roll. His readied attack before goes as a reaction, right, so it happened before his turn started and he failed the save, so it shouldn't be at disadvantage--though a 12 probably won't hit anyway, so a moot point.
Already wounded from the battle with the gnolls, Kei feels the grasp of the tentacles squeeze him into unconsciousness. The last sound he hears is that of ribs cracking. Then.... blackness.
Like the other two, Dwal is ensnared in the grasping, crushing tentacles and is now restrained. Bludgeoning damage: 18
Gerrard whips a dagger at the back of the old man's neck. It pierces his skin and draws blood, but this strange being seems to be made of tough stuff. Nevertheless, he grunts in pain.
(Concentration check: 16)
Gerrard lets fly a second, perfectly-aimed blade. It similarly does relatively minor damage.
(Concentration check: 23)
The grasping tentacles release Kei, and he slides between them, caressed by their loving embrace. He dreams of flying, and of dark clouds.
Bjorn, circling high above, tries to overcome his fear: Charisma check: 20
Dwal is restrained, but may try to break free, or attack with disadvantage. Peri may act unrestrained. The man is at the bottom of the pit, still trying to scramble out. "Foolish!" he mutters. "So regrettable."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Dwal successfully manages to stave off the grasping tentacles and free himself before they are able to restrain him. He moves to safer ground (which direction?) and still has his action this turn.
Bjorn dive-bombs the man in the pit and attempts to sting him. Sting attack: 22. Piercing damage: 6
Injected with the pseudodragon's venom, the man attempts to fend off the poison -9 - and maintain his concentration -20 .
He succeeds in doing both.
Peri may act. He is some 30' feet from the pit-bound man.
Peri skirts the field of alien tentacles to circle around to the south of the pit. As he sees the Prophet trying to climb the walls, Peri casts his hex upon the man, weakening his concentration (Disadvantage on CON checks). Then he fires another eldritch blast into the man (12 for 6 force + 3 necrotic damage).

Kei still has an action, if he wishes. He is about 40 feet away, in the darkness, although he may follow Gerrard's light forward and out.
Gerrard catches up to the old man before he is able to retreat far, and has an attack readied. (We'll see what happens next.)
(I'll wait for Kei, then resolve the strange man's next move.)
((Xolor's Prophet needs to make a concentration check after getting tasered. That's the main reason Peri blasted him.))
(I'm on it! I was just waiting for Peri's turn in initiative; I still struggle with how initiative intersects with initiating combat - e.g. https://rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/72889/what-happens-when-initiative-allows-a-player-to-act-before-the-player-that-start )

Dwal will move 25 ft. to the right of the tentacles.
