"Thank you Master Kei, but I'm doin' all right. That lizardfolk potion tastes like dirty socks but it does the trick." While Gerrard searches the pond, Peri sizes up the giant snake carcasses. "Think I can trade Kester what's left of these skins for some fancy duds?" he asks no one in particular. He begins skinning the snakes, starting with whichever seems less damaged.
Valignat is deeply impressed and awed and a little humbled by the short work you made of Thousand Teeth the Devourer.
In Draconic:
We are in your debt.
Gerrard begins to muck about at the edge of the pool, but finds nothing of immediate value. There are many bones. The water smells foul to the point of toxicity.
Peri surveys the hide of the huge crocodile. (Harvesting the hide requires an hour of work and a successful DC 15 Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) or Wisdom (Survival) check to preserve it in top condition for Kester's purposes. On a failed check, the hide does not meet Kester's standards but may still be sold for a lesser price.)
Valignat observes what Peri is doing; he warns him, "You may have the hide, but the head goes to the Queen."
Dwal watches his companions carry on without saying much.
Dwal will send Bjorn up for a bird's eye view that might help locate anything of value. "If'n ye see anything I'll make sure ye get a fair split," he tells his mini dragon companion.
Bjorn spies a lot of mud and bones, mostly. A weathered old morning star and a broken javelin, too. There is an unusually carved piece of wood buried in the muddy mound in the middle of the pool.
Refreshed if not cleaned by the water, Gerrard moves slowly but finds nothing particularly useful in the murk below. Following Bjorn's lead, though, he heads to the muddy mound in the middle of the pool and tries to figure out if the small creature needs help teasing out whatever he found in the pile. Gerrard will also poke through the rest of the mound in case he sees anything else.
Perception: 1
OOC: Gerrard will follow Valignat's lead on what to do with any lizardfolk remains (hopefully that persuasion check helps out).
Edit: Ha! Gerrard should stick to the talking and let the pseudodragon do the searching.
"Just what I was thinking too Little Snakebait. How about a helping hand? Speaking of helping hands, did I tell you of the furrier I once knew? Had such nimble fingers could work any hide you laid in front of him. Pity he used to gamble so much. He once told a pirate he could turn his old half dead cat into a fine ushanka. Problem is the cat wasn't fully dead just yet. Needless to say the pirate cut off all the furriers fingers." His strange morbid tale offering Peri a weird sense of inspiration.
((d6 Bardic inspiration to Peri and Kei will offer Help in skinning the beast))
Dwal cringes a bit at the skilled (or unskilled attempts) of skinning the snakes.
"Ye folks are a bit too rustic for even my liking," he mutters.
With Bjorn's guidance, Dwal will make his way to this "interestingly carved stick". When he does find it he will use hands as well as magic to clean the thing so he can get a better look. Prestidigitation
OOC: Gerrard has the Mariner’s armor and is more than happy to grab the stick for you or Bjorn, Dwal. Of course, you are welcome to swim if you would like.

Pleased with the results of his snake-skinning efforts, and with no one else volunteering, Peri decides to give crocodile skinning a go. Kei's odd story of the fingerless furrier bolsters his (probably already disproportionate) confidence. He cuts off the massive head for Valignat to present to the Queen, then gets to work, with Kei helping to hold the peeled-back hide (which weighs more than Peri) out of the way. Gerrard continues to muck around in the water, which is the opposite of clean and refreshing. He finds nothing but filth and death.
Valignat seems unconcerned with the remains, which are at least part lizardfolk.
"It is an honor of a sort to be eaten by Thousand Teeth the Devourer. Let their bones lie. But it is good Thousand Teeth is dead now, too."
Peri, meanwhile, skillfully skins the snakes.
And, with Kei's help, skillfully skins the croc as well. The skin is heavy, but the head is even heavier. It will take some labor to get it back through the swamp to the lizardfolk lair.
Standing in the foul shallows of the pool, Dwal is able to reach the muddy island with his magic, skillfully excavating and retrieving the stick without the necessity of a swim in these nasty waters.
It's an ornately carven wooden staff, very old, but in perfect condition.
Coming up empty and muddy, Gerrard is somewhat distraught that he found nothing of use and managed to somehow get even dirtier than he was before! "Ah well, maybe it will make it harder for the bugs to bite on the return trip," he thinks. Pitching in as needed with the skinning tasks, he offers to help carry what he can, saying, "I'll help as much as I can, but we will need a good-sized sledge if you want to try and keep much of the crocodile meat."

Peri rolls up the snakeskins and ties them to his pack. "I can lug these back if one you ungainly folk can get the croc skin. But I don't think any one of us is capable of haulin' that huge head." To Dwal, "D'ya think you can cobble together some kinda sling that two people can carry between 'em? You can use your fancy stick if it'll make you feel better."
Dwal will look over this staff, studying the designs, seeing if there are any clues to be revealed.
Dwal studies the staff. It is definitely of an arcane nature, and will need some time and study by a spellcaster like himself to plumb the nature of it. The carvings are extremely elaborate, but make little sense. Whatever it is, it is very complex and unusual.
The skin and (especially) the head are quite heavy and will slow you down, but a rope or cloth sling of some kind will make transport possible. It will delay your progress back to the lizardfolk lair, though.
”The Queen only gave us a day to make a good impression on her tribe. I fear that dragging this crocodile head may delay us too long in meeting her timeline,” says Gerrard.
“How important is the head of this beast for proving our intentions to the Queen, Valignat?” asks Gerrard.

Looking up and seeing Gerrard all muddy and muck covered Dwal will say.
"Weren't no reason to do all that now."
Once saying that Dwal will cast Prestidigitation using the cantrip to clean the muck and mud off of Gerrard and dry out his gear.
"There. All better now?" Dwal asks. Dwal then turns his attention back to the staff.
Gerrard:
“You are too kind, Brother Fiercehammer,” says Gerrard, thanking his friend for helping him maintain a modicum of decorum in his attire.
He continues to help out where needed and keep an eye out for any returning snakes or other threats.
