"Hey! Hey guys! That guard is using a mirror to signal people up ahead..." He would quickly whisper-shout towards his companions.. jumping up and down trying to get their attention while also not trying to alert any of the other travelers. "Maybe there is some kind of ambush or road block or something up ahead... and that is why there are no travelers coming towards us..." Skip would add... looking more and more worried as he grips Muffin's reins with one hand and draws a hand crossbow out from inside his jacket with the other.. keeping it mostly hidden under his leather jacket but ready to use at a moments notice...
Brace says "It can't hurt to be prepared." He casts aid at second level spell slot on Himself, Ulfgar and Keth. This should help us in case we meet anything crazy in the next little while. (+10 HP for the next 8 hours)
Landrae nudges her horse forwards towards Skip, "Calm down Skip, no need to act like there is anything to be worried about." She says calmly to the young man, though she finishes the tune she was strumming and pulls her longbow out from under her horse's saddle, checking the wood and the oiled string are in acceptable condition. "Doesn't hurt to be prepared though... Hold my reins a moment." In so saying Landrae dismounts her horse and strings her bow, bending the long shaft of wood that stands about 5' tall before the string is pulled taught by looping it over the end. Stowing her instrument safely away, Landrae puts the bow over her saddle as she remounts and seats herself comfortably.
"Let's move on with caution. Skip, nice work on spotting that signal, you have better eyes than me. Keep the vigil ahead. Keth, Ulfgar, maybe you gents could give a girl a bit of protection? I'm used to being mobbed by adoring fans aaking for autographs, not thugs expecting to levy my tips..."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Don't worry pretty lady, I will watch you like a hawk,"Keth says as he squints and tries to see what Skip saw. "Anyway, if they are using mirrors then we can assume we still have a lng way to go. No reason to be walking on a razors edge right now. Be wary but take in the scenery too, Ulfgar and I have got this." Keth rides casually, his trust and confidence in his friends was an easy thing for him. He was an endearing optimist.
Skip would quickly put hold his hand crossbow under his arm as he holds Landrae's horse for a moment. "Yeah! Sure... I can hold it" He would say with a smile before returning the reins to her once she was mounted back up. "My eyes are pretty good... at least when it is daylight... but I don't think they are better than yours!" He would add as he turned and continued to walk beside Muffin, holding her reins in his left hand and once again keeping his right hand on his crossbow. "I'm not very good at riding a horse.. let alone trying to shoot a shortbow or crossbow from the back of one. I think I'll just walk for now." Skip would then continue to make his way forward... trying to walk casually with his hand inside of his vest.
Brace, already stinging from the loss of Livly, understands when Landrae asks Keth and Ulfgar for protection. "The front line will need any aid we can give it. I hope you are not feeling left out Ms Landrae. My magic only goes so far and I had to choose someone. I expect you don't usually face the enemy head on as it were. I will do my best to protect and defend as well. Skip I hope you understand as well. Your skills seem well suited for staying away from the brunt of the attacks. We shall see." He continues forward keeping an eye on the guard who was signaling the woods. "I appreciate your eyes Skip and I expect we may need keen awareness to know friend from fo in the events in front of us."
Keth sees the last glint of a signal but then nothing. Around the party readying for attack they draw attention. Fellow travelers looking around at the road side and ahead then back to the party. A man in fine clothes on horseback rides closer to Landrae as Skip stays on foot holding a crossbow under his vest.
"I'd be pleased to know just what sort of danger I'm not privy too," the handsome dark headed man asks with a cocked but scarred eyebrow. "Trouble ahead or uh...you planning on making some," he adds with a smirk.

"Thanks Mr. Brace." Skip would reply as though he were a dog that was just given a pat on the head. "I do prefer to keep my distance, but I also know a little when it comes to using a blade." He would add as he gestures to his shortsword. "I have never stabbed anything other than a target though." The young boy would look to his feet for a moment. I used to practice with daggers and things after attaching leather straps to the handles to help with the grip." He would finish looking down at his shortswords. at a quick glance towards Skips blades, you would notice that his shortswords and the glimpses of daggers you can see from inside his vest all appear to have very well done leather wraps.
"Oh! hi mister." Skip would reply with a smile. "I hope I didn't startle ya... it's just that... uhh..." Skip would whisper and lean in close to the man, placing his crossbow back inside of his vest to free up his hand so he could hold it up close to his mouth.. as though to shield his words from onlookers. "We were hired to take care of a bandit problem, and well..." The young man would pause for a moment.. looking ahead before looking back to the man. "I got a feeling that there could be trouble up ahead... better safe than sorry right?" He would add with a smile.
Ulfgar is pretty cranky as he rides Beauty and keeps an eye out for any trouble. "Sleep is important for the body and soul. Stupid thieves." He says. "Too bad about Livly, she was a spirited one."Now looking to Landrae. "Now its just you and the boys... my money is on you anytime of the week if you ask me." Ulfgar smiles as he starts to whistle that uneven melody again.

Brace backs up Skip as he tries to explain to the curious onlooker. He tries to look normal and keeps his voice down so that he can only be heard be those next to him much like Skip did. "Please do not fear. Our preparations intend to stop harm from befalling the caravan in front of us. We have come to the conclusion that there are bandits in these immediate woods that want to cause trouble and we mean to stop them. We also have a history with them that must be settled if you know what I mean. We wish no one harm and hope it all comes to nothing. I appreciate your concern."

A trickle of whispers reach outward as other travelers give the party a wide berth. The road stretches ahead as the curious stranger remains with the group.

"No Brace, your aid went to the right people. Sometimes a girl just likes to be made to feel special, and what better way to do that than have your own bodyguards?" She gives him a cheeky wink and then turns to Ulfgar. "nothing wrong with a one woman show Ulfgar, and hell yeah, you'd best put your money in me!" Landrae blows him a little kiss and flexes her biceps is a mock display of strength.

As the stranger approaches, Landrae finishes flexing and hails the man. "It is as my elven friend says, we are out here to hunt. If everyone is lucky we will not find our quarry and these travellers will enjoy a peaceful day on the trail." She gestures to indicate all the folks travelling within view, "Should that not be the case, we prefer to be prepared. Though an ambush at the height of the day is most unlikely, you never know how well our chef's cooking is sought after."
As Landrae addresses the man, Skip would would smile along while looking him up and down.. inspecting his gear as well as his body language. The young man would attempt to spot any signs that this guy was hiding weapons... or perhaps had his own signaling mirror... trying to reassure himself that this man was not part of the bandit crew that they were following.

"Ah well I'll just ride along then," the stranger replies settling in his saddle to ride beside Landrae.
Skip doesn't notice another signal but the caravan guard seem to be moving around as if rotating in positions around the caravan wagons themselves. There's two wagons heavy with goods or varying degrees of value.
"So Wastelanders eh? Made it in before they closed the harbor," the handsome dark headed man asks Landrae looking over the group. "What bandits are you after? Any or...a specific group?" He asks curiously.

While the man is focused on Landrae, Skip would drop a few steps back and quickly try to take a peak in the mans saddlebags, positioning himself between his own horse and the dark haired man's... trying to find out more about who this guy really is while trying his best to hide behind Muffin...
Keth continues riding along. His attitude is of one that knows something may happen but until then, these folks, these caravans, it is all their business not his. He looks to his friends every so often and is still slightly taken aback by both their paranoia and their ability to easily spill their life story to complete strangers. He understands in a way as he likes company but still...
