The party is spread out across the shore of the lake, the Umber Hulk is coming from the western edge away from the boats/oars where the party is clumped.
The beast bears down on the party everyone please make a CHA save DC15; on a failed saving throw, the creature can’t take reactions until the start of its next turn and rolls a d8 to determine what it does during that turn. On a 1 to 4, the creature does nothing. On a 5 or 6, the creature takes no action but uses all its movement to move in a random direction. On a 7 or 8, the creature makes one melee attack against a random creature, or it does nothing if no creature is within reach.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Sometimes a Nat 1 tells a better story than a Nat 20 ever could.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Skip would drop the glowing rock and quickly scramble away from the creature (40ft) while pulling his short bow from his back. "What is that thing!?" he would shout as he let's an arrow fly towards the creature.
Attack: 13 Damage: 8 plus Unable to parse dice roll. sneak attack
Ast will take a small orb of light and push it out towards the creature, casting Hex and give it disadvantage on wisdom checks and then using his big black book will point at the creature and yell "Hey, tall dark and ugly. Betcha not even your mother could love that face!" And he will cast Vicious mockery as his action (wis save DC 13) damage: 4 Ast will then use his movement to try to spread him out well enough between his allies so that if any looks like they need healing he could get within range to heal them easy enough.
The party but Skip are still in a clump in the beach of the lake. Ulfgar and Keth in melee combat range.
OOC: To be clear use your movement in feet please as well as direction. 10ft north of the party is lake, up to 120ft South is cave, east and west are shore line/lake depending how far 60ft in each direction you go you'll run into more water. the way I assumed ppl were laid out was a long the beach Brace and Skip were by the boats investigating and finding oars. Keth being last of the party was closer to the back where the creature emerged hence 20ft or so from Brace and Skip. Everyone else in between in a clump no further than 30ft from monster and each other. Keth and Skip were the farthest apart. Skip dropping the stone by the boats only illuminated 20ft which the Umber Hulk is well outside of by 10ft. He the then moved an additional 40ft away into darkness with no light source a long the shoreline behind the boats. Theo is nearest to Brace, Ulfgar, and Ast. Theater of the mind us tough and I realize we'll all fumble but let's try to be fair.
Ast finds the water very cold.
Brace sees oars hidden in a pile of rocks away from the boats.
Keth notices the gleaming of something from the behind a rock pile as a large umber hulk comes from behind, its mandibles clacking and hissing.
Everyone please roll initiative!!
