"If you take a job with the mages over there," the barman points to the table of hooded figures at the back of the tavern, "I'll open a tab," he adds with a nod at Ulfgar. "Been sorting through patrons most of the day. I'd take kindly to them settling their business and moving on," he explains.
Ulfgar nods back to the barman. "Open a tab?" He looks to the table of hooded figures, back to the barman, to Keth and nods in his direction. "Well I suppose we should see a mage about a job then." He smiles as he extends both hands awaiting mugs to filled with ale and placed in them.

Brace is intrigued and needs any money that might be on tap for services. To Ulfgar's comment he says "Yes indeed, I say we listen to what they say and if the tavern is willing to open a tab for us just on that information alone we are already indebted to them. Livly or Landrae or even Ulfgar, you three seem to have a way with words. Do one of you want to convince them that we are willing to listen? Make no promises, at least not yet. We will hear them out."
"The best way is to make them think that they convinced us. If you care about payment, of course. And they already invited you, did not they? I'll fetch Landrae and we join you there. She did just that: walked to Landrae, gave the local bard a happy smile, apologized for stealing her companion (Just for a moment! She will be right back!) and explained Landrae the situation. "The guys already found some job. For mages, no less - and here! So far barmen promised to open a tab for us if we agree. No idea why those mages chose us, but no harm to talk, right? They are over there," she pointed at the table of their potential employers and pulled the bard in that direction.
Volkher will go over and pull a seat from another table to sit on the end, preferably with his back towards a wall, and though his sword and bow would be put away, he'd keep a hand on one of his daggers.
Landrae thanks Rosie for the duets and follows Livly over to where the party was beckoned. Taking a chair, reversing it, and placing it in front of the self-important, presumed to be leader of these men, then straddles it as the others of the party who are coming settle into their chosen positions. "Go on..." She says in a neutral tone.
Although the party attempts it no one is allowed a seat at the round table of hooded figures. They are politely rebuffed and made to stand as Keth watches from his seat across the tavern. Now somewhat of a comfortable distance away from the central figure in silver robes the older human man speaks. His accent is local and his tone even with authority in it.
"We are an.... interested party seeking stolen goods. Items from a caravan taken on the Gold road out of the city. The Emperor's city guards and the ward watch has given us little help in our attempts to retrieve these....items of value. We ask you, for a finder's fee, to recover these stolen items," the older man explains giving each party member a firm curious look.
His hooded compatriots however do not look up or at the party. They seem oddly transfixed on the silver robe wearing man.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Aand who would be the rightful owner of these stolen goods?" Landrae watches the man very carefull as he talks, trying to take a read on the man's responses, those minute flunches or subconscious gestures that hint when a person is telling the truth. Of course, back home a little magic would have allowed everyone to come to the table on a fair footing. Here though, Landrae figured it best to rely on good old fashioned methods of reading people. "Would you claim it to be yourself even if it were not? Don't get me wrong your offer certainly piques my iterest so long as you are duly forthcoming. I'm sure you can appreciate that a group of refugee outsiders, generally disliked, asked to 'recover a stolen item' could put us in a bit of a pickle were we not to be suitably discerning..."
Ulfgar tilts his head to the side like curious dogs do, as he watches the hooded robes transfixed on the silver robe wearing man. "Is it just me or this just a tad bit creepy?" He whispers to Livly as he takes a sip of his ale.

To see Livly, the guy would have to stand and bend over the table, so she could safely answer Ulfgar without attracting too much attention from the "Silver robe": "Not if they are cultists of a sort with him being the "arch-cultist". Or else - you know - mages? Who said those guys are even real?".
But all of this was told to Ulfgar alone. Livly was just listening the Silver Robe. After all, the group needed money, those strangers were willing to pay - how bad can it be?
Brace was feeling gullible, or maybe that was just hunger. "I don't have a problem retrieve goods if they trust us." Then looking at the leader of the group he asks "Do you trust us? I want to understand that we are not being lead into danger on purpose. Please help me understand."
"Or are you just out of other options?" Brace realized as soon as me said it that he was giving the gentleman an easy out but he wanted to hear him explain himself.
"Yes, they'll be danger. What do you expect? These bandits will give you back your goods if asked nicely," the older man says now rubbing his temples before looking at his assistant still standing beside him who makes a apologetic expression. "We trust your group to retrieve these items that you'll be paid well to face said dangers and unpredictability. We cannot retrieve the items ourselves for reasons that do not directly relate to our conversation now. We need the items retrieved and with little fuss returned to us," he explains. "Will you agree," he asks. "Time is important and the more we waste on convincing your party we could be hiring someone else less...in need of convincing than coin being a good enough motivator," he adds firmly.

"They belong to our organization," the older human replies stern expression.
"I require people such as yourselves that are unknown to these bandits. You have no ties to other parties here in the city," the man adds.
