A good mount can help you move more quickly through the wilderness, but its primary purpose is to carry the gear that would otherwise slow you down. The Mounts and Other Animals table shows each animal’s speed and base carrying capacity.
An animal pulling a carriage, cart, chariot, sled, or wagon can move weight up to five times its base carrying capacity, including the weight of the vehicle. If multiple animals pull the same vehicle, they can add their carrying capacity together.
Mounts other than those listed here are available in the worlds of D&D, but they are rare and not normally available for purchase. These include flying mounts (pegasi, griffons, hippogriffs, and similar animals) and even aquatic mounts (giant sea horses, for example). Acquiring such a mount often means securing an egg and raising the creature yourself, making a bargain with a powerful entity, or negotiating with the mount itself.
Saddles. A military saddle braces the rider, helping you keep your seat on an active mount in battle. It gives you advantage on any check you make to remain mounted. An exotic saddle is required for riding any aquatic or flying mount.

OOC I'm sorry, I don't know how to quote from the rules.
No need to quote the rules. I have access to them. At this point the steeder is friendly to you, and willing to go along with you, but it has not agreed to be a mount for you.
OOG If you agree, I would take a rest...probably a long rest.
(OOC Keep in mind, you've really just woken from a long rest. The duergar attacked first thing in the morning.)
As everyone quickly gathers their things, thanks are given out to you all, and Eldeth for protecting the camp against the slavers. "And now we have a boat! Sloobludop is not far. Only a day by water!" Sarith, Jimjar, and Bupiddo begin loading supplies onto the boat, Bupiddo mumbling what sounds like curses under his breath. They are somewhat taken aback by the steeder which is currently in conversation with Oorr and Valrish, but as it does not make a move to attack they continue loading the boat.
Shuushar offers to guide the boat to Sloobludop. As there is no wind on the darklake, he will rely on a few others to row the boat, but he can direct the ship to your destination.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Chapter 3: The Darklake
After your small amount of possessions and supplies is loaded, Shuushar directs Grimnir, Valrish, Eldeth, and Derendil to work the four oars on the ship, noting that the four of you are the strongest and best suited to the task. With a shove, you push the keelboat out into the water, and then begin rowing it through the still waters draped in a shroud of darkness. Shuushar guides you from the bow of the ship, directing which oars to push, so as to navigate around rocks and other obstacles.
Oorr, as you scout above the ship, you notice the cavern ceiling varies quite a bit in height. At some places you are able to fly 30 feet or more above the boat, but in other corridors, you are forced to nearly land on the ship as the cavern ceiling lowers. You help Shuushar and the the others guide the boat so as not to ram into any obstacles both above and in the water.
After several hours of travel, the four of you pushing the oars notice the ship is getting tugged unnaturally, and about that time, Shuushar warbles out, "Whirlpool!" Using the lights of the ship, Oorr is able to make out the edge of a vast circle of water, quickly dragging the ship towards its center. Shuushar starts yelling out commands for the oars to push out of the shifting water.
Grimnir, Valrish, Edleth and Derendil make a Strength (Athletics) check (DC 14)
Eldeth - 15 - The shield maiden digs her feet into the floorboards of the deck, yanking hard on her oar to keep it from going limp in the whirlpool.
Derendil - 7 - Using his massive Quaggoth arms, Derendil pulls on the oar, holding the boat steady, angling it out of the whirlpool.
OOC: I have arachnophobia.

OOG Oh....sorry for that
OOC: Well, if you don't mind my "forgetting" to protect Spidey from my AoE spells, maybe sending him on a little "trip" once I get plane shift. . .

Valrish helps to load supplies onto the boat. "Does anyone know how to properly use this thing?" He asks publicly.

Oorr reassures Sarith, Jimjar, and Bupiddo: " Do not worry, he is a good boy! "
Then he hears Valrish's question: " Never seen a boat before. I will probably scout, flying around the boat. "
"Good. You're never too careful in the Underdark."

OOG I don't think it is strictly necessary the proficiency in boats.

"Perfect. ! Can't wait to find a bit of civilisation, even maybe a inn ??"

OOG Oorr can use the help action, say, on Valrish?
Oorr flies over Valrish and help him push the oar with both hands.
OOG Valrish consider yourself helped.
