"What? Wait we can't be seen!"Oorr try to stop Shuusar from steering the boat.
(if it applies, Athletics 18)
Shuushar does not put up any resistance, releasing the steering of the ship, and turning it over to you. You, however, do not know how to steer a boat, so the vessel is now floating aimlessly in the water.
Shuushar runs to the front of the boat, and begins yelling loudly, echoing through the cavern, "Archpriest, I, Shuushar the Awakened, have returned!"
The rest of you see the lights now closer, seem to turn your way, and the tiny figures of the Kuo-Toa on board start to come into view from the lights of your ship. Shuushar is waving madly at the boat to get its attention.
"Wait, I just got an idea. I cast continual flame on my spare dagger this morning; do you think we can convince them that it's a powerful artifact of some sort, and, if so, can we use that to get them to not kill us?"

"humm.. wait, it seems the problem was coming from Blopp - the daughter of this archpriest. Could it be that the archpriest is not as violent, Shuushar?" " I would suggest to get ready.. but do not show any violence yet..."

As the boat approaches, you see the Kuo-Toa pulling on oars, and directing it to come alongside your own boat. The larger one, wearing the garb of nets and bobbles, looks down on your deck from atop a platform built on the back of his ship. As he looks down, Shuushar continues waving and gesturing to get his attention. After a long moment, the large Kuo-Toa raises his hands, and then exclaims something in a warbled fishy sound. Most of you are unsure what he says, but Belwar and Shuushar understand he is speaking in Undercommon.
When the Kuo-Toa sees that most of you cannot understand him, he reaches out his hand and utters another short phrase, pointing to his mouth, then repeats himself,
“I am Ploopploopeen, archpriest of the Sea Mother Blibdoolpoolp. She answers my prayers by delivering you. Help us, and you will be rewarded for your service.” Then he turns to Shuushar. "Shuushar, it has been a time since we last saw you in Sloobludop. It seems your travels were not in vain as you have brought mighty allies to our aid. Come, we will escort you into the city, and there I shall show you what has come to pass in your absence."
The archpriest then turns, and motions to the kuo-toa rowers to pick up the pace. They turn their boat around and begin heading back the way they came. Ploopploopeen begins motioning for you to follow. Shuushar rushes back to the aft of the boat to work the steering wheel, and then looks expectantly at those of you who had been rowing. Some of your fellow escapees look around expectantly, wondering if they should indeed follow the Kuo-Toa ship. "Well.... it can't be any worse than in the middle of the darklake, I'll wager," says Jimjar.
"We have little choice. We follow the arch-priest and, if the fortune will assist us..."Oorr does not finish the sentence, not in the presence of the arch-priest, hoping his friends understood the meaning.
"Honourable Ploopploopeen, as you can see we have been badly hurt from our previous encounter. We will gladly help, but we would be more efficient if we could heal our wounds...
would you be able to heal us, through the power of the Sea Mother ?"
"Honourable Ploopploopeen, as you can see we have been badly hurt from our previous encounter. We will gladly help, but we would be more efficient if we could heal our wounds...
would you be able to heal us, through the power of the Sea Mother ?"
The archpriest looks back from his boat, seeming to notice you're all a little hurt for the first time. Then he cocks his head to the side, staring at you for a moment. Then turning to his Kuo-Toa motions to a couple of them that are not rowing. Two Kuo-Toa leave their ship, jumping into the water and swimming over to you ship, where they climb aboard. Each one goes to the most wounded, uttering a spell and touching each of you in turn. They appear to be lesser priests of Blibdoolpoolp. After finishing they swim back to their own ship, continuing their slow journey to Sloobludop.
(OOC Everyone will gain the benefit of a cure wounds spell and gain 4 hit points.)
Then Ploopploopeen speaks loudly across the still waters, "Do not worry, soon we will be back to Sloobludop, and you will find rest and resupply there while I tell you of our urgent need."
You travel for another hour with nothing around you except the darkness and Ploopploopleen's ship leading you. Gradually you notice a soft glow emanating from off in the distance, and as you get closer, it starts to take up much of your field of view, gradually growing in to what can be best described as a tangle of reeds, phosphorescent lights and structures of stone and mud. Shuushar's eyes go wide as he takes in the sight of Sloobludop for the first time in a long while. All along the water are small docks that you are guided into. You disembark with your supplies and meet the archpriest down on the dock. As you join him, some Kuo-Toa brandishing spears and nets begin approaching from the town.
The archpriest speaks to you in a hushed tone. "Please stay here, so I may confer with the auguries." He leaves to about 20ft away and meets with the Kuo-Toa. One of them leans down and casts some reeds, bones, and rocks on the ground. After studying them for a moment, he stands up, and nods at Ploopploopleen. The archpriest smiles, and returns to you. The other Kuo-Toa gather their items and leave. "The Sea Mother has blessed us today. The auguries have allowed us entry to Sloobludop"
"But... Archpriest, are you not the speaker of the village? Who are these auguries that must permit you entrance?" Shuushar asks.
Ploopploopeen hangs his head slightly, though his unblinking eyes track everyone gathered. "Come, let us go to a place of rest. I will explain when we arrive." And then he and his followers head into the village, past reeds, and huts. As you walk, some Kuo-Toa villagers bow as the archpriest walks by. Others spit at his feet, shouting curses. The archpriest ignores them, and after a few minutes of navigating the village streets, you enter a large hut of stone and mud. Ploop removes his headdress, and takes a seat on a dais to the side of this simple, undecorated room. He heaves a heavy sigh before continuing.
"The inhabitants of Sloobludop have lived in harmonious service to the will of the Sea Mother for some time. Oh, there were occasional “visionaries” who stirred up trouble," and at this, he casts a walleyed glance at Shuushar, "but nothing of any great concern. A few weeks ago, Bloppblippodd, my own daughter, experienced a powerful vision of “Leemooggoogoon the Deep Father,” proclaiming him the new god of her people. She has backed up her claims with a great increase in her magical power, and new followers have flocked to her."
“We are split in two,” Ploopploopeen explains, “fighting among ourselves. The followers of the Deep Father have been making an increasing number of offerings on his altar — killing blood sacrifices then casting bloody chum into the waters of the Darklake, where it is consumed by … something. But now, the Sea Mother has brought all of you to Sloobludop! It is my hope that you will help me against the cult my daughter has created."
"Archpriest, what exactly do you want us to do? Forgive my truthfulness, but we need to find a way to the surface, not to be involved in a civil war..."
Oorr is very concerned about this. They barely escaped drow first, then duergars, now kuo-toa...in some kind of religious war. He secretly remind himself to find later a secure way out of this city...
