Abigail looks at Morgan, somewhat amused. "You know, for once... you might be right."
She proceeds to toss the lock into the deepest part of the river, absolutely expecting it to somehow re-materialize nearby or in her possession. If it does, she groans, waves it with a 'yup, we are fracked' face at Morgan, and proceeds on. If it does not, she lets out a sigh of relief, and pats her pocket were the keys are before proceeding on.

Abigail watches the lock soar through the air before plunking into the river. Drifting into the murky rushing water and out of sight. The keys remain in her pocket, jangling a bit as she touches them. Their make up of stone, and bone rattling ever so slightly.
Morgan - when you do settle in for a rest - you spend part of your time working with the blade. Tearing open that pocket of space and time where your blade is sometimes able to be kept. The blade changes a few times, it stuttering as the blade elongates and narrows just a smidge. Tiny vibrant purple cracks forming down along it in segments. Then, in a flash, it seems to return to it's normal self. You feel more connected to the blade now. Able to guide it through the air with ease; calling upon the powers you've aligned with to assist in guiding your efforts. The blade vanishes from your hand to that place you're able to store your pact weapons, and is easily recalled. Probably for the best; as it didn't have a scabbard of any sort.. and it's clearly a unique looking weapon.
The Windhook sets off, pulling up the anchor and getting on it's way. Morgan and Abigail taking up the evening shifts, while Captain Wednesday and Mr. Firmin continue on their morning. Tarak assisting on keeping the lines baited and hooks prepped for the fish and other small game that are along the river. Lafetha switching between the two; assisting in her own way by seeing the shifting weather patterns and other issues.

Starfall Impact Zone
Shatter dismounts off of the large bird, looking around the site. Seeing the cold bits of ash and the few bodies that are left, scavengers having begun to pick them apart. The T-cross helmet glancing around as Shatter notes the footprints. Leading to the water's edge, and from the waters edge. Retracing the crew of the windhook's motions. Seeing where they stopped to rest. The tried splatters of blood from injuries. Impressions in the fine silt from when a body collapsed....
Shatter reaches into his belt; pulling out three small vials of what looks like crushed ice. The bounty hunter tosses corks open and wafts the ice into the air; the solid turning to a vapor. The outlines of faces and shapes. A still image of the crew around the impact sight. It's vague. Haunting. Missing all the finer details. But as Shatter walks around he stops to look at the vague image of Morgan. Helmet again glances around, "The Wilson isn't here this time. That'll make it easier."
Shatter looks over at the vague image of Tarak, seeing the gauntlet being held. A stronger breeze comes by, the still images of smoke and vapor being distorted and dispersed. The bounty hunter returns to the bird, mounting it once again. "Expensive, but worth it. Now let's go. We're on the right track..."
The large bird flaps it's wings; some of the fine silt tossing into the air as Shatter takes to the sky in the direction the Windhook left in....
9 Days since Starfall...
The journey has taken... much longer than expected. Those first legs having some getting turned around, but it at least leading to being in a opportune time and place. This part of the trip... not so much.
First it was lack of wind - causing everyone to take turns rowing. Then getting caught up in a few dams, having to re navigate from whatever woodland creatures had set up blocks. Nearly two days lost in navigating a now incomplete map to find the best routes.
Deciding to risk it; the Windhook heads out to sea. For a bit, Abigail gets the refreshing taste of salt air and the thrill of waves. As well as the reminder of seeing Wreckers (boats designed to catch Leviathans) out in the distance on the hunt.... Blackscales boat can easily pass as a Wrecker... it's how he got so close to her old ship, before unfurling other sails and engaging.
The seas were rough on the Windhook - it's flat bottom clearly not designed to be out in it. Staying near the shore, they do manage to head up river for a bit. Mr. Firmin assisting with their engine to keep the crew in top shape. Luckily, the rivers are plentiful; and outside a single day on the Ocean where people had to dip into rations, the crew is rather well rested and fed. Smelly... but... rested and fed.
The bell begins to ring, letting everyone know that the Windhook has arrived. The town of Niantic. One of the many - many - towns in the Unity Confederacy.
Morgan - upon seeing the town - you instantly know this place. It's grown since you were here. But so have you. This is where your mission went south.... where you were shot. Where you and Sim met on that fateful encounter.
Captain Rollo begins talking as the crew is gathered on the deck. "Welcome to our destination! I've got to be meeting with my contact here to see what kind of job we're going to be getting. Let's meet back here in 3 hours, until then... enjoy the sights and the smells!"
Niantic Confederacy of Unity (Sakannett People) Medium River Town
(Feel free to make any style INT rolls to know about the town / location / place)
Niantic has a quaint feel to it. Build along the river with several small fishing boats and docking ports; the river seems to separate the town from some more established farmland. The Rail has not yet come to many places inside Unity, making the river system the main method of transportation, along with the paved roads that extend out from the town proper and from the homesteads that reside within the farmlands.
The houses are large, but single story with big doorways. The homes themselves are circular with flat roofs, but also placed in a circle pattern. The center seeming to be a communal garden and cooking location for the families that live in the grouping. Along the several docks are makeshift markets selling local goods and wares.
A small Blackmire Bank, and a small Temple of the Faith both are easily identifiable markers along the stone streets that weave around homes and other centers. The people are the usual mix of Human, Noctis, Redhel (Half Elf) and Mosari (Half Orc); unsurprisingly to you all. They are taller than others, with those of human ancestry seeming more south asian in tone and hair color.
Intermixed are a good number of Loxodons, Minotaurs, Hobgoblins, and Goliaths, rounding out the majority of the town's populations outside the few Dwarves and a few Tabaxi families.
Tarak looks out at the town as the ship pulls into port and then turns to Morgan. “I need to look for someone who may live here. Will you join me? We can go replace your healing potion as well.”
Assuming Morgan agrees Tarak will begin asking around town after the Hermit Atholessa.
Persuasion 11
Then once done with that he will ask around about potions and go to the store with Morgan.
Morgan looks Tarak up and down, insight14 to see if this is some sort of trap. Assuming that isn't the case, they say to Tarak, "Is this like a find a friend situation or a find an enemy situation, or find a romantic interest that may or may not want to kill you, type situation... I'm sure there are more types of relationships then that, but I can't think of any at the moment. Upon hearing about this Hermit Atholessa person Morgan thinks to see if they've heard of him before. history9
If Tarak needs help finding this hermit Morgan says "You know, Hermits famously avoid cities... or is the one like... reformed or something?"
Morgan will send some time shopping for food so the first couple of days won't be terrible hard tack sandwichs, and also find a nice trinket for their lovely lady, Abigail.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Abigail's previous or deeper knowledge of this town: 4
While docked, Abigail will attempt to purchase a shield - Persuasion: 25
Assuming she does not remember anything remarkable, then it is to the tavern to get a drink... or two... maybe three... although four would not be completely out of the question.
((For sake of ease, since Lafetha's player is out till after the long weekend....))
Lafetha and Abigail head into the town, more towards the markets and eventually... the pubs. Morgan and Tarak head to meet with some townspeople, talking to others in the street and looking for the hermit Atholessa. Captain Rollo Wednesday heads into the town, slipping through some crowds as he makes his way to his contact while Mr Firmin... sets up a hammock on the deck of the ship and takes a nap.
Abigail (& Lafetha)
Abigail, you don't remember too much about Niantic. Mid sized town, deep into the western side of Unity before transitioning to the locations Diadochi used to go on, and on, and on about. It's a export town - specifically foods. From the farmland and orchards, to the small community gardens - they grow a wide variety of foods. If it wasn't for the lack of a great way to reach here... this town could be much much bigger and more affluent.
From the various market stalls, you're easily able to find a wooden shield (15 gold, reduced to 12) for sale that fits your size and frame. A plethora of other items adorn the rows of vendors pitching and offering samples of spiced foods, hoping to buy more.
Three stalls catch your interest more than the others.
A Tabaxi family that also seems to run a smithy, called K. JT. Wares, selling a variety of items. Their style, and some of their weaponry is rather unique. Thin blades. Curved blades. Throwing blades. Claws and claw augmentations. Weapons designed to be more about flow and precision than brute strength.
A traveling Sakannett Family - a large covered series of wagons. They've set up a large, mobile crucible. The elder of the traveling family is a rich skinned dwarven man, while the two busy working are clearly not.... despite them calling him "Grandpa." One a Mosari, while the other is a Human. Both women. Both with forearms and hands that could bend steel on their own. They seem to make bespoke armors and barding.
The third has three stalls in the market. A tall, slender Redhel who goes by Olan Lord. Fine clothing of vibrant colors and designs. Small trinkets. Rings. Jewelry. Based on how the customers interact, he seems to certainly be a local.
After wandering through, you find your way to the Public House. The sign is simply a massive Purple Chariot; likely the name. No words. Just a picture, weathered a bit from time and the elements. Its huge circular building that's pushed off into a corner - likely due to being a spot they could fit it - is loud and busy. The center of the building is where casks of ales and ciders. Huge smoldering coals reside in vast pits. Servers take orders at people who are sitting at the tables, or forming lines along a few 'spokes' of the circular bar. The people are welcoing, strangers greeting the two of you with a cheers of a tankard or offering a seat. You get the sense a private table is rather hard, considering most of these tables easily fit 10 and the servers seem keen of getting people to fill a table before starting something new.
Along the wall is a staircase that heads up to the roof; not many people coming and going.
Morgan & Tarak
Morgan... the name doesn't ring a bell. The Faith and their Hermits, Saints, Relics, it's a lot of random overlapping names sometimes... hard to keep track of off the top of your head.
The two of you do set out into the town. Meeting with locals, talking, mingling. Many of the merchants that have set up stalls don't seem to be from around this particular town, hailing from all over the Sakkanett's peoples territory.
As Tarak is in a conversation, the feeling of a sharp - hot - stab comes just above your right eye. A loud ringing soon follows. Garbled words finally becoming more clear as the sudden pain subsides. I only need one of you.... Looking around, a large male, older Loxodon seems to be having the same thing. Hand over the left eye with a slight tilt in the head. He's well dressed in fine clothing, a rapier by his side, apparently in conversation with about a half dozen others. You two lock eyes for a moment..... that was your old target.... the one in some convoluted happenstance you got shot trying to kill. ...make it happen when the time is right.... You're certain he's hearing it to, before he returns his attention to the crowd of people he's in.
Tarak, seemingly unaware of the brief headache, continues to gather some information. After roughly an hour of talking to varous people, it seems most folks aren't able to say the name of "The Hermit of the Cave." But, they live about 5 hours away by foot towards the North East. There's a large hill surrounded by a small bit of woods where this hermit lives. When not referencing the Hermit with "of the Cave" they sometimes use "The Mad Hermit."
You don't get the feeling they have any hard feelings, or even dislike the Hermit. It's just more of a stable, nearly folklore-ish figure of the Hermit. Those that you've talked have never personally met or seen the Hermit. Merely relaying stories that a friend once said over drinks, or local legends of the person living in the cave in the woods.
Shopping wise, you both see the familiar three stalls that Abigail and Lafetha also saw. In addition to other trinkets, wares, foods, etc....

Morgan turns to Tarak, "I don't think we have time to head all the way out to see this Mad Hermit, but I am excited to meet him and see what my life is going to be like in 70 years. Side note, someone might be trying to kill me rather soon, I need you to know it's probably not my fault... well it is my fault in that I didn't kill him when I should have but... that's a story with a whole different kettle of fish. So I know we aren't besties or anything but if you could be on a look out and just murder anyone who has killing intent towards me that would be great. Anyway I'm going to go switch faces don't make it weird. Bye!" Morgan will go somewhere with privacy ((like an outhouse or super discrete Alleyway)) and get a different Face.
He meets back up with Tarak, "Okay lets go."
Morgan buys:
15 gp worth of spices
25 gp some nice Jewelry for Abigail.
Morgan looks the Scroll case saleman up and down, "What sort of world secrets?" insight11
If the they think it isn't scam they'll buy one but not before trying to talk down the price all 24
When they meet up with Abigail "Hey, it's me. I'm sort of doing this pact murder thing... that sounds bad. An alien influence wants me to murder someone...Okay, yes that sounds worse but. I'm pretty sure that influence wants my murder target to murder me. So I'm hoping to either leave town before he can get a chance or get a strong case for self defense before I ... hopefully we... obliterate him. Speaking of Murder I have to read this scroll to see if there is another merchant on my murder list... Anyway. I say this super cute amethyst brooch, that I think would look amazing on you. I was wondering if you wanted to steal it with me... you know like a thing we can do together..."
While talking and doing some routine fact finding, you do learn a little bit. It seems many people are a little upset at how much food they've been sending off to assist in the rebuilding of the Loxodons. With some locations struggling after a civil war, the other nations and people of Unity have come together to assist. It seems that the current elected official - a large Loxodon woman who's a refugee from the war - is the most vocal critic.
Along the roads that lead away from the town, nobody has heard from a village that's about two days away in a week.
Many people here are excited and eager to talk about some kind of Pamphlet that's been circulating. They're eagerly waiting for whoever is writing it to send out their next pages.
Morgan....
You and the seller of secrets go back and forth for a little while. You don't entirely think it may be true secrets... but he's excited to sell it. It's clear that it's something. You do manage to haggle them down to 70 gold. When you eventually open it, it's clear the seller had no clue what he had in his possession. Inside is a Scroll of Dimension Door.
Tarak looks at Morgan “Wait now you want me to kill someone? I’m not sure I will ever understand you but if you are in danger as you have been given into my charge by the will of the Iron Queen I will protect you should the need arise. I need to travel a few hours north to deliver this letter I hope you will assist me in this now that we have this understanding.”
Tarak then attempts to haggle the merchant for a healing potion for Morgan and scroll of secrets.
Morgan rolls their eyes, "No Tarak. I don't want you to Murder someone. I want you to be on a look out, and defend me, maybe preemptively and lethally because that seems to be your wheelhouse. I'm reasonably certain that this guy knows all my tricks, and knowing Lo... knowing him he probably has a lot of friends. So I need people like you that he can't account for."

Abigail totally purchases the Tabaxian Barbed Clawtips, two Tabaxian Handaxes, a Tabaxian Trident, and a Tabaxian Long Sword... assuming that the total can be negotiated to 200 gold or less. Otherwise, she will go for a Rapier instead of the Long Sword.
Not sure if the original Persuasion counted for this vendor, so rolling it again: 13
Feeling super excited about trying out all her new toys on future victims, Abigail will buy a meal for the whole table.
She also asks about the pamphlets, seeing if anyone has past pamphlets she could read.
Eyeing this new Morgan up and down, Abigail says, "Well, this look is not bad for you... Also, no, I am not interested stealing something from this town. We have a boat to catch soon. Casing the item and merchant would take far too much time."
Morgan sniffs and rubs his eye, "No, that's fine... I get it. anyway Tarak needs me to do something for him. I don't know... something about an insane cave dweller. Probably take about a day, and I should probably skip town, force the Murder pact guy out in the open... this is embarrassing I was supposed to kill him, but I can't remember his name... that's probably why Sim was able to pull him off better than me... terrible with names. ANYWAY! this is for you." Morgan tosses the 25 gp jewelry to Abigail. "Also these." Morgan gives them 3 pounds of spices. "I don't care... so if I'm not back this time tomorrow I guess I died. so don't leave with out me, or do. Whatever... Come on Tarak, let's see you're super important hobo friend..."
You did spend quite a bit of time haggling with the owners at K. JT. Wares (using your old roll). They do finally come down to a even 200 gold for the Tabaxian weaponry. The meal you get for the table is quite good. A good sized ground bird that's maybe a tad overdone; quartered and roasted. Venison. Dried fish. As well as a assortment that grows from the surrounding area in both variety of flavoring and slices. The others at the table who aren't your compatriots gladly give a cheer and take a bit.
(Items added to your inventory. Did not yet take the gold out of your inventory)
Tarak....
After paying the merchant 100 gold for the scrollcase, you too open it up. To you; it looks like nonsense. But both Abigail and Lafetha know it as a scroll of Heat Metal
Morgan...
It does come to mind, being one of the longer term members of the crew, that it's not Abigail you have to convince. But likely Mr. Firmin or Captain Wednesday. They did say to meet back in what is just shy of three hours from the current time. And depending on the contact he's meeting with currently - it's possible you and Tarak could get left behind.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After finishing shopping Tarak returns to the ship to talk to the Captain and Mr Firmin
“I am sure you want to get moving quickly but I have been given a mission by the Iron Queen and the Faith to deliver a letter to a man who lives five hours north of this town. I am honor bound to do this task but I also do not want to leave your crew. The Iron Queen led me to you and your crew so I would like to ask you to delay our departure while I and whoever else in the crew is willing to go help me, return.”
if needed Persuasion 14
Then he turns and asks if anyone else will go with him and Morgan.
Abigail gawks at Morgan, "You are what? Just leaving the crew, like that? Prior to getting permission from your captain? Morgan... You confuse me." She hands back the necklace. "I thought you a true buccaneer. I will keep the spices onboard for you... You keep the necklace, bring it back when you return to the ship. I am staying to see what Roland says."
She pauses before heading to the ship.
"If you have someone after you... The safest place for you is here, with your crew mates."
When Tarak arrives back at the boat, Mr. Firmin is still lounging around on the deck. It only having been an hour until the four hour meet up time.
"I won't speak for the Captain. He did mention to be back...." he peaks his eye open, placing his hand to the horizon and counting with a few nods. "Few more hours. Sounds like you'll likely not make it back in time to take a entire day, let alone any amount of time gettin' lost."
When Captain Wednesday returns to meet up with the crew - he does hear what Tarak has to say. "I can understand your wanting to do your duty, but you did sign up for being on my crew so I'm denying your request for today. But you can certainly go in the morning... cause tonight I need you all to help me seal this deal."
He pauses for a moment before looking at the crew, Mr. Firmin included. With you all, he begins to walk along the docks. Doing a bit of a talk and walk, while periodically glancing at the vendors. "It seems that our contractor wants to meet the team. Doesn't like a faceless group doing her errands and chores. Wants to make sure we're what she'd be paying top amount of coin for. So she's hosting us for a bit of a late night drink, gathering, music, blah blah blah..." his hand rolls forward. "But it is a bit.. formal. None of..." his hand waves over the group's arms n armor, "this"
Before anyone get's the chance to protest - which it seems Mr. Firmin is incline to do - Captain Wednesday continues. "Get yourselves bathed. Get a clean set of clothes, or at least don't smell like you do now. And certainly keep your wits about you. She asked us to come as invited guests, but don't be fools..." he says, flexing his ankle and boot.
For what it's worth - Captain Wednesday and Mr. Firmin seem unphased by Morgan's new appearence. Simply accepting and continuing. "She lives over at that circle of homes over there. The larger round home that has actual hallways connecting it to other sections. Small gate surrounding it too. Likely a few guards that live there but I didn't see 'em."
Morgan - this description fits what you remember.... he's talking about THAT house. Rollo talking about the shrubs and the gardens.... A gate would be new... but hallways connected to smaller homes. A sub-level that was rather lavish. Doorways. Rooms. ...gunshot.... Rollo's contact is the wife..... Which means, the husband, the other Hexblade...
Mr Firmin gives a quick snap over at Morgan - breaking the brief lost in though look - as Rollo pulls out his pocket watch. "It's 17 bells now, she asked us to be there at 20 bells. I told her to expect six. So I best hope 6 arrive to avoid any complications."
Thieves Cant
It's subtle but Rollo's hands as signaling particular words. Rich - Watching - Danger - Trap. Observe - Prepare.
Mr. Firmin looks over at the crew, then more to Abigail for a second. "Well... you heard 'em. Get your bodies all cleaned up and looking presentable."
Knowing you all have 3 hours - before the festivity begins... what do you do?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tarak looks at Rollo for a moment and then nods. “You are correct I signed up with you and your crew but my duty to the Iron Queen surpasses other duties. Fortune have it I do not have a time frame to complete this task so tomorrow is an agreeable time to do it. Thank you for the understanding. I will go prepare for tonight.”
Tarak the heads back to the market to look for new clothing. His first stop is the merchant that sells Bespoke Armor to find out more about it. What does it do? What does it cost? Etc..
And then finding out what it is he will go to the other merchant selling clothing and buy some Finely made clothing custom fit to him
The traveling family has set up a moving caravan that seems to keep them going from place to place. A large cruicibile, designed to smelt and forge armors is in the middle of the wagons, creating a intense heat. The Dwarven "Grandfather" seems to be teaching the two women on different techniques based on the body language; but it's mostly dwarven being spoken between the three of them.
After Tarak goes into a bit of a discussion, they seem able to forge several varieties of different armors, custom made to the person ordering, designed with intriquite inlays if a person so wanted. They also seem to have some rather rare metals....
Design... Scale Mail - Medium - 60 Gold - 2 days crafting Chain Shirt - Medium - 60 Gold - 2 days crafting Spiked Mail - Medium - 90 Gold - 3 days crafting Breastplate - Medium Armor - 500 Gold - 2 weeks crafting Half Plate - Medium - 850 Gold - 2 weeks crafting Ring Mail - Heavy - 35 Gold - 1 day crafting Chainmail - Heavy Armor - 85 Gold - 3 days crafting Splint Mail - Heavy - 200 Gold - 5 days crafting Plate Mail - Heavy - 1700 Gold - 4 weeks crafting

After the discussion, Tarak does speak with Sir Lord about the clothing....
He does state that normally a good fitting takes a little bit of time. But he can certainly give some alterations "off the rack." He gives you two separate options.... Stay for a hour (eating up some of your precious time) to get a good fitting that feels like it'll be clearly more off the rack but tailed to you rather well. Or, he will take quick measurements - (no significant amount of time spent) to make sure it's appropiate lengths, but it will clearly not be as good of a fit as he would prefer.
In either case, he discounts down to 40 gold. And the clothing, compared to what most people would wear, is still glorious in both color, style, frills, and embroidery.
Evening Helm: 26

Niantic
Confederacy of Unity (Sakannett People)
Medium River Town
With a few hours to yourselves, what do you do?

Tarak looks out at the town as the ship pulls into port and then turns to Morgan. “I need to look for someone who may live here. Will you join me? We can go replace your healing potion as well.”
Assuming Morgan agrees Tarak will begin asking around town after the Hermit Atholessa.
Persuasion 11
Then once done with that he will ask around about potions and go to the store with Morgan.
(what does the store have?)
Morgan looks Tarak up and down, insight 14 to see if this is some sort of trap. Assuming that isn't the case, they say to Tarak, "Is this like a find a friend situation or a find an enemy situation, or find a romantic interest that may or may not want to kill you, type situation... I'm sure there are more types of relationships then that, but I can't think of any at the moment. Upon hearing about this Hermit Atholessa person Morgan thinks to see if they've heard of him before. history 9
While drinking with the locals... however many may be around this time of day... she will also ask around about any current news and gossip.
Investigation: 21

Morgan looks the Scroll case saleman up and down, "What sort of world secrets?" insight 11
Abigail...
DM PbP Series (Completed) : The Blackmire Company, Voyage of the Windhook ,Shanty of Soulripper, The Streets of Dunnour
Persuasion 13
Abigail...
DM PbP Series (Completed) : The Blackmire Company, Voyage of the Windhook ,Shanty of Soulripper, The Streets of Dunnour
Morgan shrugs "Either Abigail will convince them or she won't even bother. doesn't matter to me either way..."
Then he turns and asks if anyone else will go with him and Morgan.
.
DM PbP Series (Completed) : The Blackmire Company, Voyage of the Windhook ,Shanty of Soulripper, The Streets of Dunnour
Etc..
And then finding out what it is he will go to the other merchant selling clothing and buy some Finely made clothing custom fit to him
Persuasion 23
The Sakannett Forgers....
