Hey, it's meant for newbies so let's give it a whirl.
If you're like me and have spent more time watching others play than playing yourself, come on in and get your hands dirty.
This will be my first try at DMing, so we're going to make mistakes together. But if we can have fun and gain some confidence, then it'll be worth it.
I'm looking for a party of 4 or 5 adventurers who can post once or twice a day. If I get more applications than that, I might do the crazy thing and have two groups.
Everyone starts at level 1 and we will use Milestone leveling up. We'll be keeping to the classes and races in the Player's Handbook, just to make it simple.
Post the link to your character sheet and any history you want to share here. If you have any questions, you can ask here or private message me.
Character Name: Renin Race: Wood Elf Class: Ranger Background: Outlander
Backstory: Renin hails from a community of elven villages nestled deep within remote woodlands, beyond the farthest fringes of the larger civilizations. He is nearing his one hundredth year and thus faces the coming-of-age trial common to his people: He must walk the lands, traveling far from his home, until his two hundredth year. Should he survive the century, he will return to his people with the experience, knowledge and wealth that he has gathered from the civilized world. In preparation for the trial he has spent the last few years training under the rangers of his village, who keep it safe from outsiders and clear of threats. Given the deep forests of his home, he is most familiar and particularly skilled in wooded terrain, as well as in tracking and hunting the beasts who make such lands their home.
No issues with the setting, 5e PbP for the last 18 months or so is my only experience of DnD, so with the pace these games go at, I'd still consider myself a newbie in many aspects of the game (certainly the official campaigns).
Are we rerolling ones or just dropping lowest as RobbieRotten123 has done above?
im interested i want to join! (i used point buy but i can use the rolls in here if you wish.)
Character Name: Krov Race: Dragonborn Class: Barbarian Background: Haunted one
Backstory:
Krov does not remember his past. One day he simply woke up in the middle of a forest with only a massive sword and a robe by his side. Krov wondered arround the forest, not knowing who he was or how he got there, if he had friends or family, if he even had a past at all. As he walked thru the woods he always had a feeling of being watched, seeing shadows behind the trees, hearing whispers of the name "Krov.". He assumed that was his name. As the night came closer and the day grew darker, Krov was preparing himself to sleep. Seemingly out of the sky a dark winged and robed figure with white eyes came flying down to Krov and the following words were said: "Remember the pain. Feel it. See it. If you do not remember, death will follow you.". Krov was terrified but like the brave dragonborn he was he stood up to the figure without shaking, sword in hands and growled back: "I will remember, and in my path i will destroy all evil so nobody will have to suffer anymore.". Since that day, that same figure kept following Krov. He named it "Death's messenger." Krov grew a little mad and depressed from the words the spirit said and from all the pain he was suffering, but like the proud dragonborn he was, be practiced everyday, he grew stronger and he prepared a small backpack with essentials so he could travel arround the world and destroy all evil. He has to remember his past. He has to destroy evil. Or death will follow him..
Appearence and personality: Krov is a 7ft tall black scaled dragonborn. Hes very strong and he has an intimidating appearence, tho his heart is made of gold. His mind is plagged by Death's messenger, a mysterious spirit that follows him everywhere, telling him words of doom.
Hes very rough and brute but his intentions r the best.
He easily gets angry and snaps tho he will do his best not to harm innocents.
Hes a bit depressing and gloomy, not to talk about his lack of brain, but his heart is in the right place.
Strength, intimidation, pride and determination talk louder than anything else.
Need to question evil? Punch first, ask questions later.
A junior librarian at Candlekeep, Chom's passion is dragons. Any book that passed under his nose concerning the beasts was spirited away and read cover to cover. He was able to house a large collection of books on the subject in his quarters, with no one knowing of their disappearance, through his use of illusions. However, forgetting to return the books eventually caught up with him. One of the more popular tomes was discovered missing when a prominent visitor grabbed thin air from the shelf, instead of the book. Panicking, Chom's other illusions failed, resulting in his deception being discovered. With a stern telling-off he was demoted to sorting recipes, inscribed song lyrics, journals of fairly unremarkable individuals and other such trivialities, a job he quickly grew to hate. Hearing of sightings of a white dragon in the outside world, Chom slips away in the night to investigate for himself, the draw of seeing a dragon, rather than reading about them, too great to ignore.
@DM - What's your policy on spell components with values (eg pearl worth 100gp for Identify)? Would we have a chance to obtain these things if we indicated we wanted to be able to cast the spell in the future, would you ignore it unless it was something really special, or something else?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Deleted original post, as my questions were answered in a comment above save for one: - what timezone is the DM in? Because I have run into the issue before that the DM is 7 hours apart from me, leading to 1,5 pages of comments being made by the time I could get to it.
I'll roll abilities now and see what I can come up with (PHB only also pertaining to spells?) Ability scores: 111314161415
Name: Tyrgram Fiers, the Butterfly Knight
Class: Warlock with Fey Patron
Race: Human (variant)
Background: Son of a potato farmer that drunkenly got lost in the woods one night. Met an archfey, took it as a sign and became an knight-errant. (will elaborate later)
Bio: Born into a small tribe, Erevan was always a gentle child. Life in the forest suited him fine. Trees to climb, creeks to play in. Nature was a great teacher of balance and the circle of life. His affinity for nature developed into something more though. His mentor had always said there was "something special" about his relationship with the beast and trees of the forest.
On his 107th birthday, Erevan began his life away from the forest. His desire to see all the forests of the land grew stronger everyday. This must be wanderlust he thought to himself as he meandered along the trail.
Backstory: At the edge of the world, saints and sinners clash with demons, devils, and horrors over the fate of a realm, aided by ancient accords with dragons and gods alike. As an orphan, Inra was raised at the Dawn Gate, a mountain range defending their continent from a perpetual dimensional distortion and incessant interplanar threats, a place where legendary powers clash and 'common sense' often takes a back seat to survival. Paladins and thieves, wizards and warlocks, sentinels of all stripes stand in solidarity.
Raised on tales of magic, monsters, and martial masters, Inra hopes to one day fight on the front lines herself in defense of her world, but for now such titanic battles remain far beyond her still fledgling ability. Instead, the ancient gods that grant their support have bid her travel to lands unknown on a quest of her own, with naught but her own conscience as a guide. How will Inra fair in the wider world, so far removed from the monolithic yet simplistic realities of her home? While she may know of a dozen ways to slay a demon, will she be able to light a way through the turbulent shadows of people's hearts?
Furujiru: Yup. Keeping to PHB for everything to make it easier to handle.
And to clarify for anyone else who may not be in the U.S.
I'm in Arizona. Right now, we are in Mountain time zone, which makes us two hours earlier than New York, for reference (or one hour later than Los Angeles).
However, Arizona does not participate in Daylight Saving Time (save for the lands of the Navajo Nation). So come the Spring, we shift over to Pacific time zone and will be the same time as L.A. and three hours earlier than NYC.
backstory: Whisky always loved the sound of music so as he grew he practiced anything he could get his hands on. For years the one instrument he could get his hands on was a set of wood pipes, so that’s what he made work. Anyone who heard him play thought he could make wonderful sounds, though needed a little practice. So he worked, and worked, and worked. Due to being a half orc however, he was shunned by other entertainers and stuck ups of the world. Working at a tavern one night, he made enough money to buy enough items to head out on his own for awhile. He finally would be able to go out to the world and prove himself. So he finally follows his dreams to share his music with the world
Time Zone: Eastern (I work nights but answer in the mornings and once I get up)
Name: Valor
Race: Variant Human
Class: Fighter
Background: Gladiator
Backstory: "And in the center ring the Circus of Blades brings you that master of blades, That master of the fight, and that master or the hearts of several ladies. I give you Valor!" The roar of the crowd baths the young man, shaking him to his core. He smiles and raises his hands high and they are suddenly cold and wet.
Valor is wakened by a sharp kick to his stomach. "Off with ya bum" a coarse voice yells at him. With this rough morning call he remembers where he is and what his life is like now. He was once a favorite to the crowds but, then he caught the eye of a noble's daughter. He was charming and she was out to rebel against her parents. Then they got caught. Valor was thrown into jail for about 3 months. He was finally released when the noble passed and his daughter took over his lands. Valor was drug from his cell, thrown into a wagon and carted off outside the new noble lady's lands and told if he shows up again he loses his head. He was abruptly thrown out of the wagon and buried in what little gear he had.
That was 3 months ago. Valor found out the circus left for parts unknown and no one wanted to hire a washed up entertainer. Desperate, Valor has turned to minor jobs but is looking for that big score.

Very interested.
I'm an old 3.5e player and have only just got back to d&d. This will be only my second 5e attempt.
What sort of ability score generation?
Do I count as a newbie if I haven't played the campaign yet?

SinarLightwood: You can use the generator on here or use point buy if the totals are unworkable.

I'm actually heading into work so I'll start doing up the campaign tomorrow and will start it either late Mon or Tues.
I'm in Arizona, so we're Mountain Standard right now.

Just wanted to clarify something. Do we roll up a character then have an option of either taking the rolls or using the Point Buy system?
