Rycider Insight: 31
The muttering and murmuring stops as the creatures eye Rycider through their helms and goggles. One trails off, then another speaks after a brief pause, directing an apparent question at the bard.
For Rycider:
"That one also understands..." the first voice trails off. The creature who next speaks to you says, "Do you bear his mark? To show you, we must trust you."
The figure's words bring to mind the strange runes that decorate the side of the crystal staff.
The same is true for us, Sweetie. Trust is a two lane carriageway. Do you bear Denorians mark? Rycider replies to the creature.
Ricky is still trying to ascertain if having the mark of Denorian would be a good or bad thing in the eyes of these odd beings, and is hoping this question might tease out the answer.
"Speak...small words...to understand," a suited creature speaks, again in broken Common. "Do not know...if we can...trust..."
There is a shimmer in the air, and the sentiment wavers along with the terrain. Just as suddenly, the desolate dunes become icy black mountains with ruined remains of massive cities clinging to the rock face above in strange, irregular fashion. The snow nearby has been cleared, revealing a plethora of strange fossils and a horrible stench. Tools and tents, archaic but seemingly made by humanoid hands, are scattered nearby. Tracks in the surrounding area lead toward the mountain's peak.
The strange humanoids are nowhere to be seen, nor is the strange dome they had emerged from.
Killian looks around for threats, but seeing none, rejoins the group. “We are seeing a story unfold. I believe we should follow these tracks with haste.”

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
Gruun examines the tracks, but is unable to determine their number or who may have made them, but can tell that the area is fairly well traversed. The tracks lead all they way toward the face of the mountain; they disappear there, suggesting that whoever made them began to climb.
The climb toward the ruins further above looks very difficult, encompassing only 100 feet of climbing but nearly vertical, with a small selection of handholds. There are a few small ledges along the way to the ruins.

The climb is simple for Hox, who simply flies to the ruins above while Killian and Aradurk begin their ascent. Aradurk struggles with the early going, failing to find a set of handholds sturdy enough to support him, but he quickly gains momentum, reaching a ledge halfway up and continuing swiftly to join his kobold companion. Killian reaches the first ledge much more quickly, but breaks off a chunk of the mountain near the top ledge and tumbles back to the ledge, taking 10 bludgeoning damage in the process. Dusting herself off, she follows closely behind Aradurk to reach the top as well.
Those at the top see a path winding its way through the incredible ruins, with lifelike reliefs and statues lining the halls. The architecture and decor are unlike that of anything you have ever seen before. It is clear from outside that these ruins have been here for an incredibly long time, as the reliefs that line the facade bear little resemblance to their original depictions.
Placement: Hox, Killian, and Aradurk are at the top ledge. Rycider and Gruun remain at the foot of the mountain.
"I have rope," Killian says, shucking her shield again to get her pack off and procure the rope, which she hands to Aradurk. Then she puts pack and shield back on, turning once again to survey the landscape.
"We've seen lifelike statues before. We should be cautious."

Aradurk will collect the rope and tie both together. He will hammer in 2 pitons into the ground behind him, run through the rope, set the knots, and toss the rest over. As he does, he calls out to Ry and Gruun. "Come on up. I will help pull you up."
Aradurk readies himself to use his strength to help steady and pull their weight on the rope.

Does Gruun recognize the tracks at all?
Rycider rolls her eyes at the ever changing landscape and holding her kerchief makes her way over to the tracks.

"Up we go then. Does anyone need a lift?"
Killian will arrive at the base of the cliff, sling her shield and rub her hands together. Then she will climb.
