OOC: I'm assuming the rest of the party is following Killian and Aradurk, but please confirm whether you are taking your mounts or not.
Killian and Aradurk are the first to crest the steps; their mounts chip bits of stone away, but the massive staircase holds their weight. The sight at the top is unique, to say the least. The shape of the island forms a bowl-like shape, gently sloping downward toward the tower in the center, which appears to be within a couple of miles from you. It is apparent that water does not drain well from the shape of the island, as the inside of the "bowl" resembles a floating swamp. The murky water and tangled vines before you look passable, but will definitely be a hindrance.
Gruun will bring the rear up the stairs, helping to make sure no one falls off. Once at the top he takes an appreciative look around, trying to see if there is any wildlife or evidence of any on the isle. "And here I was thinking we would get to be dry. Do you trust your beasts in that muck?"
Riding back, Killian pulls up. "I do not trust this horse to not put a foot in an unseen hole and break a leg. It seems we brought them for naught." She will not dismount yet, but waits for the rest to weigh in.

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
Hox just has Beast trot downwards to the muck. Once the ground feels soft enough, Hox dismounts Beast by flying up, he gives a shout, "Hox just wanted a four leg beast to ride...Hox fly over smelly mud."
“Seems like two options - either ride around the outskirts which will take longer and may have other challenges or we walk the horses through. Horses are more adept at getting through muck that you may realize. We used pack animals in all conditions in the service. You just have to not overdo with them. I am for pushing through with them.”

Killian shrugs. “I am used to warhorses that prefer to plow through any obstacle, for better or worse. I will take your advice.” She prepares to lead her horse through the muck.

"I can lead us through and test for holes to keep the beasts from getting stuck. Hox scout above us but keep low, there could be something else in the skies." With that Gruun will move forward into the muck and begin trudging a path through.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Killian Perception: 7
Seeing no obvious path, Gruun leads the way through the swamp as the rest of the party follows, with Hox flying above, leaving his confused pony waiting by the steps.
The way forward is slow, but the foliage gives way easily to your weapons. For the most part, the brackish water is low enough that your mounts never come close to swimming. The flora and fauna on the island is strange, the bugs and animals that you see bearing similarities to those from the Sword Coast but appearing smaller or larger, with slight differences. You see lizards with absurdly large tails, a gator with orange-red skin, and bugs with more than one head as you travel.
After a few hours, the base of the stone tower in the center of the island comes into view. The ground at its base is slightly higher, and dries within a thousand feet of it. The tower appears to have almost collapsed at its base, filled with rubble and debris from its crumbling heights. A large hole forms a tunnel to its side, sloping gently downwards.
Rycider finds no intentional traps, but does find a weakened section of the tunnel a short way in; avoiding it has likely prevented a minor collapse.
The tunnel itself grows dark further ahead, but a dim light emanates past the darkness, where the tunnel eventually opens into a pit-like circular room. All that can be seen from the entrance is the hind hooves of a horse laying down.
Killian will dismount and tie up her horse loosely (so it can get away if panicked). Then, with a glance at the others and a nod to Rycider, and keeping her sword in its scabbard (so a hand free for Spellcasting) she will proceed down the tunnel with her 120' of dark vision, swirls of shadow following her.
Gruun will follow Killian, staying far enough back that they shouldn't both be noticed. He keeps his Greataxe in hand and tries to be as quiet and perceptive as possible.
The remnants of a small fire burn in the center of this small cavern. The perimeter of the room holds very little aside from some small and worn wooden carvings and a pile of bedding, atop which lays a remarkable figure.
The creature's bottom half is that of a horse, with four withering hooves and sagging sinew. The top half resembles the lizardfolk of the Sword Coast's marshes, except for its lighter scales and larger face. This creature appears to be ancient, and struggles to sit up as you step forward.
The centaur-like lizard man blinks bleary eyes at the party. "Do my...eyes...deceive me..." he rasps. He stands shakily, stretching his old muscles. "How long...has it been..." he asks, trotting slowly about the room. "Too long...ten years, twenty?" The creature sits now, gazing wearily at each of you. "Who...are you?" he asks.

“Hm. My horse for a druid,” Killian jokes dryly to Aradurk. “There will be no approaching this place unseen. Or quickly.”
There is no causeway visible? Killian will gallop a minute to the left just to get a different angle, then trot back as the rest climb the slope.

“Smells like my ex-girlfriend’s bedroom”, Aradurk jokes aloud. “Only this place doesn’t scare me”
Aradurk keeps pace with Killian, turning his mount to keep a 360 degree view as possible.
