"That's the spirit!" Nikolav beems with a wide grin, and immediately takes you along to his personal laboratory. The place is cluttered, but with some structure to the chaos. DIfferent prototypes in various stages are strewn about the surfaces, and various sketches, schematics, and calculations cover the wall. You find to your surprise that the inventor has illuminated the chamber not through some candles or a lamp, but through a strange apparatus: It seems to be a nearly finished prototype, using heated metal strips inside a bulbous flask. For the life of you, you can't determine what keeps the metals heated though.
Seeing your interest, Nikolav jumps in: "This is one of my more recent projects... it's based on a Kalashtari discovery about energy within fruit. No one has been able to figure out quite what is behind this and why it works, but with certain metals, the energy inside the fruit is released, and turned into heat. It's a neat little thing to work with during the evening, but unfortunately, the metal parts inside the flask are used up rather quickly..." focusing, he harumphs, and then gets back to showing you around: "...but the project I've currently dedicated mysel to is the telelith. Now, do you believe in magic?"

As soon as Lia touches the jet stone surface to the spinning Eliciter, she can hear a faint whisper emanating from the stone: "... is Nikolav speaking... Lia there?". He couldn't have been more than whispering, yet she can clearly make out his voice. Somehow, the stone allowed them to communicate across and beyond the normal distance. "Hence telelith", she tells herself.

Shades bids his farewells to the rest of the group and will spend his time familiarizing himself with tumbledown to look for a suitable spot for the proposed plan. Additionally he will try and locate the materials that could help them accomplish that plan.
Shades, similar to Harper you find that there are several abandoned buildings near the waterfront, and there is an abandoned temple close to the cemetery. The core of the village is inhabited, with most of the people here pursuing a trade related to the cemetery: from carpenters fashioning coffins, to florists weaving mourning wreaths and floral arrangements, to masons that carve headstones. You're quickly told by a local that most of the rest of the inhabitants make their living as gravediggers.
The materials to start a fire are easily accessible, and within a short trip you're able to find a nearby store that sells lamps and oil, as well as wicks for oil lamps. Similarly, at one of the coffin makers' workshops, you find sizable quantities of tar, used to seal the coffins against rodents and other vermin. A smith that repairs the local tradesmen's tools has a steady supply of coal to keep his smithy supplied, and the baker has a woodpile behind the back of his house, with plenty of sappy pine logs.
-------------------------
Lia, almost immediately after you utter your response, you here the voice of the engineer: "Splendid! It worked! Please, return to the lab, I have more things to show you!"

After gathering information on the town and then sourcing fire starting materials Shades contemplates if the abandoned buildings are far enough away from the waterfront to create enough of a diversion and if they are how many would need to be set ablaze. He also thinks about a way to start the fire to make it look accidental and not intentional.
Shades, the building on the waterfront are abandoned, ut close to the river and setting them on fire would likely only serve to illuminate whatever activities your contact is getting into. This rules out the waterfront buildings, and instead makes the abandoned temple a juicy target. Given the liberal policies regarding religious worship, some could potentially contrive a fire breaking out in the temple as a service gone wrong, depending on what materials are chosen, and what the nearby witnesses will say.

The temple is Terin's choice for a place to set ablaze. Of course seperate of Shade's preperations Terin begins to quietly accumulate various items that would have served before the occupation on a local gathering of faith. He visualizes setting the temple up to make it appear that people were secretly worshiping there. Candles, chalice, whatever the norm was in the past. If he could make it appear authentic they could even approach the guards as the fire starts and tell them that we found people worshiping and as good law abiding citizens decided to stop it with prejudice.
Sparks, you see lockboxes cleverly disguised as ordinary furniture; a self-winding clock using glass bubbles filled with different concentrations of air that rise or sink according to changes in the atmospheric pressure; a hand-cranked Eliciter, producing a static charge; a Brelish telelith, allowing for communication across vast distances through sets of paired magical stones; a steam-operated mechanical orchestra; a steam “dragon” powering a heavy engine for moving immense weights; and elaborate orreries and nautical tools.
Harper, you would know that worship of any deities (even evil ones) is allowed in Borogrod, only preaching is prohibited. But nonetheless, you find most of what you'd need to make this look like a ritual gone wrong right within Tumbledown. Candles and lamps are available in lots of variations in a variety of shops throughout the town, and with it you also find incense and other burnable essences. As for chalices or other items, you could try to buy some off the store selling "antiquities", or else you might try to return to Borogrod and look for something similar there.
OOC: Sorry for my absence, I've been quite swamped with work until this weekend. I should be back to a normal rhythm from now on though.

Lia, it doesn't take you long to realise that the "dragon" was in fact like a big oven, using the pressure of expanding hot air to power a set of pneumatic tubes and cranks to move very large weights. After a couple of experiments you notice a rather big problem though- the gum and tar used to seal the tubes soften under heat, and after an hour of running the "dragon", you notice considerable amounts of pressure dropping, reducing the weights that can be moved or transported.

Lia points this out as she finishes her last experiment. "If we could come up with some sort of iron tubing, that is molded as a single piece, instead of held together, it might make it a bit more reliable over the long run." She suggests. With a glance to the sun's position she nods. "Looks like I best run to make my afternoon appointment. See you again in the morning?"b
The gnome priest is overjoyed at Lia's acumen and nods along: "Ah, mechanical engineering! Thermodynamics! Splendid! And.. of course, of course... I shall think of some projects for us for tomorrow! See you soon, and Gond be with you!" With that, he waddles off back to his telelith and calculations.
