So much for having a leg up on any of the competion.. Mouse couldn't help groaning a little inside. He usually wasn't the type to complain, even internally. Feeling out of ones comfort zone tended to have that effect. It was the simple sum of things for Mouse on this day though. He was not used to being at the front of a group, and along the walk he and Matilda had a hushed but terse exchange.
"You know that its a good thing right? For you'r competition to dwindle in a race." He asked sarcastically, while reflexively assuming the body language of a more introverted person. A habit that normally served to make him less noticeable by civilians, guards or other peoples of authority, as he processed information and stimuli on the move. How many teams readying to leave, had they passed already? Two? The kingsmen and the Captain.
"Competition is brutal, but they are only children!" Matilda replied. Mouse's only response was to sniff forcefully, his eyes widening as the Dokktors guild disappeared underwater in their strange contraption. "If the ship is large enough, do we offer passage for them? This would mean they 'owe us one'. We can use that to our advantage later!"
Mouse could appreciate the basic advantage of being owed a favor, and they were just children. What harm could it really do to help them go just a bit further. Not that mouse had the patience or compassion at the moment to express as much. He'd always considered himself cleverer than most, yet as they neared their destination at the end of the docks he noted two more teams. One of which just leaped, into the frigid waters! That made a total FIVE other teams that had made it to the docks and on their way before he and his friends. "If the others have no arguments against it, have your way Matilda." He whispered, the edge and sarcasm having seeped from his tone. He could see the Gnome that must be Kain stop what he was doing and turn to face them before they'd even come to a halt. With crossed arms and an unfriendly glare, Mouse could only assume that the Captain knew exactly why they were here.
"How do you do, Mr. Kain? My name is Mouse." He steps forward extending a hand out to shake for a brief awkward moment, the Gnome just staring. "I'll keep this straight to the point," Mouse went on, taking his offered hand back. "we're in the race, and i was told by a friend, that there was a posibility that you and I could be friends." Gesturing back towards his companions. "I need passage for myself and..." Pausing to look at Matilda one more time, "..14 others. The rest should be along shortly.." He hoped Matilda would take the hint and rush off to grab the students and thier chaperones.
"We have coin, sir. Just name your price." Mouse did his best to sound positive and sure of himself. The seconds were ticking away, and if they left just this instance. They'd still be five teams behind.
Both the gargantuan barbarian and petite druid study the boat as the monk and sorcerer watch the halfelves pretty much con a dude out of his boat and the rest of the teams beginning to arrive at the docks, including Team 10.
She certainly looks shabby, but nonetheless seaworthy. The size is a problem though... It looks like it would be large enough to fit 16 people but it would be a tight squeeze. Heck, it would probably be hard to move around with that many people and their equipment!

Mouse didn't blink, even though his jaw wanted to drop. Instead he turned his gaze to the pitiful looking gull perched on the old boat.
"Is this your bird Mr. Kain?" Mouse asks, with visible concern on his face now. "It's looking very out of sorts.." Taking a step closer to the bird, his voice trails off. Softly Mouse titters at the bird extending his hand out cautiously not wanting to bother it off. Curious as ever, Rat pokes just his nose out of end of Mouse's coat sleeve, sniffing the air.
Mouse looks the worn bird over closely, to see if he can tell what ails it.
Matilda being...well...from the swamp, there haggling was done in bullfrogs and mud pit wrestling. She looks to her more charismatic friends for barter while she turns around to approach team 10.
"Hello, I am Matilda. I am part of the GLRDHM. I wasn't sure if you all had found a ride yet, you know with this strike surprising us like a giant snake nipping at your buttocks as your trying to....um, anyway we think we've found passage on the last ship at the dock. We are haggling with the ship master, but if we could pool together we may be able to get across the Frigid Sea! How does this help sound?"

As Matilda approaches the group of wizards the headmaster sees her coming and begins talking at the same time she does!
"Ah, hello, my friend. I'm Isaac Northstar, Headmaster of Northstar Academy of the Arcane. As you might have concluded me and my students have been delayed at a most disadvantages time, much like when ones wand brakes before a duel. So in the spirit of sportsmanship, I inquire if you would be willing to aid us in this most awful time."
Matilda and Northstar finish at the same time! The red-haired man and the children just sigh or roll their eyes. This sort of thing seems to happen a lot, apparently.
The Headmaster gives to a small smile, a twinkle in his eyes. "Well, that help does sound wonderful. But I'm afraid we are rather short on gold..."
Now, to any spell caster not raised in a swamp that hasn't met him before would normally be amazed to be talking to THE Isaac Northstar, who's Academy has taught some of the greatest wizards in Azairia!
OOC: Rougewolf, I think it would sort of count here, do I'll give you advantage on persuasion rolls on Kain. Advantage means you roll twice and take the better roll.
Mouse can't see why the bird would look why the way it does, and as he reaches out it tries to bite his hand!
Kain gives a cruel grin, than a grimace, and says with annoyed tone as he glances at the Goliath and dragonborn,
"No, that atrocious albatross isn't mine. It just uses my boat to hitch an easy ride from here to Glace Island, and believe me, I would have gotten rid of years ago, but it's bad luck to hurt a seabird. Now, can you pay up, or what?"
Mouse snatches his hand away just in time, but only because Rat suddenly dashed back up his sleeve. Though it looked sickly, it didn't lack for spirit.
Sighing deeply, he brings his hands together in front of him in thought. "A moment to confer with my team." He replies to the price gouging gnome.
Turning his back to the boat and its captain mouse leans in to his party. "What are we thinking gentlemen?"
((ooc just want to give others an opportunity to chime in with their thoughts))
This time Mouse did blink, just once. Drumming his finger tips together, he regarded Guhner's suggestion seriously for a brief moment before reaching up, and gently urging the giant mans arm back down to his side. He supposed if need be, that it WAS an option.
"Admirable initiative friend. I'll keep that one in the chamber and ready to go. Let's not show our hands just yet though." He replied calmly to the Goliath, before regarding the others.

Jack mutters let me talk to him and walks up.
"Kain my friend you don't seem like a person who is fond of the government. So tell"....... I lean in close and whisper in his ear. "How would feel about doing the Jackdaw a favor?"
Kain raises an eyebrow as he overhears Guhner refer to him as a dwarf and then his gets a shocked expression on his face as Jack leans forwards and whispers to him.
He furrows his brow and presses his lips together after that. Apparently hes heard of the Jackdaw before and seemed to debate the offer.
"Tell y'all what," starts the gnome, "You pay me everything you have now, I'll take ya cross and, win-or-lose, ya give me tha rest plus interest, providing ya still alive, that is." He finishes off with a smirk and his hands on his hips!
OOC: I've got some RL games going right now, so I might be slower updating. Going to try to keep the three posts a week schedule though!

"Come on man! Why are you so set on cutting us off at the knees?" Mouse whirled around to face the homely little man once more. He feigned annoyance with the captain. It was starting to feel as though his goal was to use hiked up prices to scare them off. Mouse wasn't sure they had time for that.
Though, if the milk is sour, you cant do anything to change it back. Sometimes it was best to just buy a new bottle. He was not sure just yet.
"Now thats tha last thing I need!" The gnome throws up his hands in annoyance and defeat! "I need to make money too, ya know! Ya know, It takes three days to cross this godforsaken sea, not mention this is a dangerous contest! I'd be putting me own life on the line!"
He says this as Team 7 comes up the docks, bickering the entire time, and start to untie a rather ragged looking ship from the dock next to yours!
Kain sighs and mumbles out,
"How much do ya have on ya? Perhaps we can work sumthing out..."
To team 10 "Money is not in my favor either friend. Back in the swamp much of our trading is in bullfrogs and weird bones we find in croc bellies. I think my group is currently haggling with the shipman. Care to join to see what has been decided?"
Matilda returns to the group and the shock of 50 gold doesn't quite hit her as hard. She hadn't earned money in the swamp because it wasn't a necessity. (OOC: She does understand the importance of money outside of the swamp, but 50 gold isn't a shocking price to her)
She whispers like the rest. "Well, the wizarding school kids definitely don't have much money. I have 40 GP I can put to the cause (holding out her pouch to Mouse)."

Mouse measures the weight of Matilida's pouch in his right palm, considering it and his group. "It seems there are a few questions we need to ask ourselves." Mouse whispers to them.
"What are we willing to pay? What will we need, gold-wise when we get to Icener? Also, 16 people on a boat this small. Are we prepared to stand that for 3 days?" "I've 15 gold on me personally. It pales in comparison with Matilda's 40 but.." He fishes out his own pouch and holds it in front of him. "I'll gladly give it all for the fare. In a port town like Icener I'm sure i can replenish once we get across." With that, he tosses his pouch down in the center of their ring of bodies. "As for the students..I know it wont be comfortable or enjoyable...But I still agree with Matilda. It cant hurt to be owed a big favor by a group of magic users."
Guhner is going to examine the boat as well, ignoring the gnome.
