"Thanks fer the meal and watching over us!" oscar would say with a grin before his face turned sour. "This damn weathers gunna rust me armor real quick..." He would add with a grump. "Well, let's get goin... I sure hope we don't see anymore dogs for a bit."
After camp is broken down and goodbyes said you all make your way into the pass. The further you progress the less you can hear and see ahead of you. The rain picks up and a fog has settled in the valley. Every now and then you hear strange sounds coming from the mountains around you. Some you recognize, like the crying wail of a dying rabbit and the yips and howls of wolves. Some you don't recognize and sound more ominous echoing out of the fog shrouded mountains
"Isn't this just refreshing?" Bree asks, turning her face up to the rain and opening her mouth to catch raindrops. She glances over at a strange sound in the fog. "Could do with a bit less of that, but..." She shrugs and tries to catch some more raindrops. At another strange sound, she calls... "Hey whatever is making that noise, it sounds weird, so stop it already!"
Faleon winces as Bree calls to the hills. "Um, Bree, I'm not sure calling out to the crazy animals is a good idea. Tog said they were being more aggressive than normal. If we start calling out and telling them to shh, I dont know... Well... I don't want Shadowfell to get me."

In what sounds like a response to Bree calling out you hear a long high pitched screech. It reminds you of the call of a Hawk or Eagle but it's too loud and lasts too long. After 3 screeches you get a general idea of where it's coming from and determine that it's not coming closer. It sounds like it's a couple hundred feet ahead, and above, of you to the right.
Gallo says, "Lets keep going and lets do it quietly. As in *really quietly*. Hold on to your pots and pans and armor and see what we are facing first."

Seeing how quietly Bree can move when she puts her mind to it, Faleon shakes his head in disbelief. He's just almost been eaten by dogs, and she's joking around with the aggressive local wildlife!

"Uhh... moving quietly ain't really my thing" Oscar would reply with a grump. He would then hold his arms tight to his body with his mace and shield held firmly in each hand.
With some traveling more quietly than others you continue down the pass. You can hear the shrieking continuing not getting louder, but more intense. It sounds like it's moving down the mountain to the pass somewhere ahead of you. While tracking the screeching you hear other sounds join in. A pained braying sound, shortly followed by another echoing off the mountain walls around you.You then hear what sounds like hoofed creatures running as more huffs and grunts. The sound of hooves is getting louder.
Faleon whispers loudly to the group, "I think they're coming this way. We should find cover and hide. Not that I'm scared, just, you know...element of surprise, and all that. A tactical ambush...thing."
Faleon tries to pinpoint more specifically where the sound is coming from, then looks for a rock, or a bush, or anything big to hide behind.
Pinpointing the sound becomes unnecessary as you see shapes start to form in the fog. The sound of hooves growing into a thunderous roar. You can all see the shapes start to resolve into familiar forms. Elk. A heard of spooked elk is barreling down on you.
(So here's how we'll do this. Bree is already well hidden and out of danger. Faleon and Oscar can both roll another stealth check. Gallo you can roll a stealth with advantage. If you find a good spot you'll escape being caught in the herd and getting trampled. If you are caught in the herd you'll roll a DC18 Dex Save using the parameters based on how well you hid. If you're not able to get out of the way you'll be hit by the elks Ram and Charge attack (DC13 STR or get knocked prone and also suffer damage from Hooves)
DC20+ and you're safe No Dex check needed.
DC15-19 - You're hidden pretty well, Dex with advantage
DC10-14 - Barely able to find a spot. Normal Dex check
DC9 and bellow - You're caught in the thick of it. Dex at disadvantage.
I hope that makes sense. So first I'll need the other Stealth rolls from Faleon, Oscar and Gallo. Then a Dex Save if needed from whoever is stuck in the open.
As always if anyone has creative way to get out of the situation, let me know.
"I ain't great at hiding either.." Oscar would reply with a frown. he would then squat into a defensive stance with his shield and mace held firmly in his hands. "Don't worry, Old Oscar will keep em distracted." He would add over his shoulder as he turns to face the approaching animals. "Ya still got that ring on right Faleon? The armored halfling would ask as he pokes him in the back with his mace while casting Warding Bond.
Bree and Gallo are totally safe from the impending stampede. They find little hidey holes that are totally out of the way.
Oscar? I want to be clear on your action. You're forgoing your other stealth check and spending that action to give Faleon the bonus from Warding bond and do a regular dex save to avoid damage based on your first roll of 14? (which is pretty dang for you!)
Faleon waves to Oscar, showing the platinum ring on his hand, rather than try to shout a reply over the din of the approaching stampede. Then he'll run over and stand immediately behind Oscar, and cast Minor Illusion to create the illusion of a huge boulder (well, 5ft-cube is huge if you're a couple of halflings) in front of Oscar, in the hopes that the Elk see the boulder instead of the two of them and decide not to ram a boulder.
(If you still need a stealth check for hiding behind the illusory boulder: 18 ...and, again if the stealth check is needed, I'll use that point of inspiration to roll it with advantage: 4)
(Well, let's just hope it's a very realistic boulder illusion...)
"Good luck." Bree responds giving a cheery smile, despite the weather.
Gallo says, "Thank you Tog. Safe travels." and starts heading out.

Stealth: 15
